Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If he requests to head home to WA, not Freo specifically, then straight swap for pick 2 from West Coast should be the most even and straight forward deal ever conceived.

We get pick 2, use it at draft for Cadman (gun and Victorian) as a key forward to be part of our forward line for a decade to come. No go home factor. Best tall forward in the draft.

West Coast get their NicNat ruck replacement with a decade of service ahead as a top level AFL ruckman with a unique skillset to play other roles if required. Former pick 3, Rising Star winner and premiership player.

Win win for both clubs IMO.

Pick 2 is a far greater risk than Jackson.

There has to be more than pick 2 coming back.

Pick 2 could be a gun or a dud, nobody knows. Jackson is already a very good player, a premiership player and a Rising Star winner and is 21.

We absolutely should demand more than pick 2 from West Coast for him.

pick 2 would get it done

tbh, i would then hope to split with gw$ or gc17 who're losing taranto / hopper and rankine respectively

i want more midfield depth as much as i want a key forward

I’m thinking a lockdown defender to replace Hibbert will be very high on the list of priorities for the club as well.
We tried to move up the draft last year to get Wilmot which would of cost both of our first two picks.
We were also trying to land Maynard before that.
With JVR starting to come good and hopefully a full fit Tmac  like you I’m not so sure we would throw pick 2( if we were to get it) at one key forward.

Taylor has nothing to do with it apart from his advice on the players in a deal.

It's the list manager and FD manager that will negotiate...

Oh please. That is massive unders. I would consider that being totally screwed.

Just look at the C/V we have created for him and then precedents of Cameron and Kelly.

Massive unders?

It's about output.

Cameron and Kelly were consistent A- graders season upon season.

Jackson is an inconsistent kid who had an incredibly underwhelming year and aside from that has shown glimpses. His grand final patch was grossly over hyped also, but that's natural because every second is analysed in a Grand final.

Pick 2 would be absolutely fair.

How can a pick 2 who may turn out to be a fizzer be equal to a former pick 3 who helped win a GF?  There has to be more than steak knives in addition.

It will likely be pick 3 after FS selections (Ashcroft) - but that's still a great result for us.

We are never going to receive 'overs' for an uncontracted player. The best we can hope for is adequate compensation.

Pick 3 is as about as good as we could realistically hope for.

Not too many 21 yo with a C/V like Jackson.

Cameron/ Kelly no premierships !

I’d take Pick 2 for him. Partly because a player at that number in the draft is going to be good, potentially great, but also because that means he’s going to the Eagles and Freo have gutted their list for nothing 🤣

Disagree. A key fwd is easily a greater priority than a lockdown defender.

JVR is not a guarantee. Remember how much hope we had for a young Weeed. And even if he breaks through next year, TMAc and BB are getting on, and will have ongoing injury risk. So we will need another KF to compliment JVR.

I think Petty the saviour could be that key forward. But also wouldn’t be surprised if the FD wants to keep the successful backline trio of May/Lever/Petty together. At least we know that when we are next facing an end of season game, Petts might get another 5 or so minutes as a forward to kick a goal or two and a couple of goal assists.

Disagree.  Even if Jackson has had an underwhelming year, he is a known quantity and is more  likely to come good than an untested pick 2 who may or may not become good in x years.

No player, whatever their draft number, is definitely going to be good. There is so much uncertainty about temperament, stability, vulnerability to injury…

We remember the good ones and forget the duds, but there are plenty of duds.

Jackson is worth 2 x 1st rounders.   Its being reported he won't nominate Freo so WC compete for his services which makes it a bit more interesting.

Also Peter Bell has been offered the North job and most likely to take it,,, Meaning we'll be dealing with someone else, we won't need to put up with his public games as we did with previously.  Interestingly the position they supposedly offered Jackson at Freo, is a role he could do at the Dee's if we really wanted.  It would also upset others planning against us, if he could do that role well.

As noted by others, Jackson is a known big man quality.  That is hard to pick in the draft (Taylor did a brilliant job) even at pick 2.

Either hopefully he does announce his decision today so we can move on the the deals side if needed.

I’m not saying a key forward isn’t a priority also. I’m just not sure that pick 2 on a key forward when we have other areas that also need to be addressed might mean we are willing to split it( if we got it).
Also as I posted earlier if West Coast split it and we get a late first round this year and  swap first round picks with West Coast next year then we would be in a great position to target a out of contract key forward next year.

We could also achieve a similar trade with Freo. I would assume with both Gold Coast and GWS in with a very strong hand of first round picks that one or both of them would be willing to pay overs for pick 2.

I wouldn’t be upset at all if we ended up trading LJ for Grundy and Cadman it just won’t leave us with any picks to fill other gaps in the squad, but if we got Grundy and also say a lockdown defender and an outside mid from this draft and we’re in a very strong position to pick up either a mature key forward or draft one next year I’d be pretty happy too.

Jackson - as a kid - stood up in a Grand Final when the chips were down. He wasn't alone but he stood up. That is a rare quality.

Yep for 15minutes or so and has done next to nothing this season. In fact after his last 2 games I would drop him plus may others. Potential is a bad word IMO. He maybe a champ and maybe a chump. No one knows not even the learned demonlanders. If he stays good but if he goes then we get the best possible outcome and onwards we go.

As i have said all along, its 2 first rounders from Freo and a one of those as high as top 5/6. Lachy Reid reporting 2 firsts and an exchange of later picks. It will be Freo.

My thinking is:

later first rounder for Grundy - I'm ok with that, i think Grundy will be very good and really keen to show the world. Think some have forgotten what he can offer, He will be fit and firing.

Possibly give those 2 picks to West coast for Pick 2 or first pick maybe 5/6/7/8 split in 2 with another side to get 2 first rounders12-18 range and add Grundy for Jackson.

Gee some people have short memories.

After R10, the talk was Gawn/Jackson was one of the best 2 man ruck combo’s the game has ever seen.

He has played some dominant games this year, some games where he was a perfect compliment for Gawn, and sure a couple of shockers in the past 1-2 months.

Jacko hurt his knee R15, and word is he has largely been playing injured since. Plus it’s not overly surprising that his attitude may slip given the trade situation.

He will be a star of the comp, there is very little doubt about this. No point talking him down, just because he has decided to leave. Reminds me of some mates venting about their ex-wives after they left.

Exactly. How many teenagers stand up in the first GF their side looks like winning since 64?

I would argue most of our players were playing sore I the later part of the season.

People do seem to be under rating his ability based upon the last section of the year, but he wasn't alone in trying to be consistent in his standard of play.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
