Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What about when their researcher stuffed up and thought Wayne Reid was a player as well as an ex-president? Assuming they mixed him up with Wayne Gordon. Not the worst thing Channel 7 has ever done but still a shambolic attempt at a tribute.

But for the rest of last night, any commentary box without BT is an improvement. I wouldn't pick McLachlan or Brayshaw at the top of the commentator draft but Taylor is such a buffoon that he brings everyone down with him.

And apparently a brilliant player who played in the ‘79-81 team. It was told with such conviction that I didn’t even question it.

I don’t know who the coach is of these football commentators, but they need to get Clarko in because  they are putrid!

I wondered about that. I remembered him as President but never as a player. Then rather than correcting it, they just made it sound like he was both a player and the club President over the same time period.

Nevertheless, on balance, it was better that they made the effort to remember him than to have ignored his passing.

Also watch on mute lately. The three times I’ve had sound on recently I’ve heard them say “player ‘mungs’ the ball down the line”.

What is that?  Not english.

It's blocky footy speak.

BT often says things that either don't make sense or are simply out of context.

For example, earlier in the year a team was coming from way behind and had a set shot for goal to put themselves within only a couple of goals down. BT in commentary said "this shot could blow the game wide open".

Isn't that phrase reserved for teams that have banged on a few goal in a row to put the game beyond doubt?

BT's that irritating, I'd actually rather a 78 year old Peter Landy heading up the Friday night call than BT.

Bruce has been a shocking loss IMO. He was irritating but he didn't make the sloppy errors that BT, Darcy, JB and co make.

They do my head in.

Brayshaw and Darcy talking about private schools is the final straw for me - "oh he's a good Scotch boy", "oh my son is friends with him from his days at Melbourne Grammar", "it's a football factory down at Brighton Grammar", as the wink and guffaw over each other.

Makes me sick that our game has turned into this...

Yes I noticed that-it would have meant he played those games at the age of about 42!

The cronyism in these circles is bloody appalling.

How about the commentators suggesting each other for roles at the AFL or clubs?

Who will replace Hocking at the AFL… You interested, Garry?

They need a goal kicking coach… Browny? Rooey? Lordo?

They need an [censored]… BT?

I always start watching (on Kayo) about an hour after 1st bounce, just so I do t have to endure the half time crappola and can ff through it.   David King is so full of his own special understanding….

just so grateful I don’t have to hear Carro’ Wilson sour thoughts ……

When we go to watch a game of football, we don't need commentators telling us what's happening.

It's no different to watching a game on TV.

I've said it before and I'll keep on saying it ... press the MUTE button and let your eyes and brain inform you.

As John Kennedy may have put it, "Don't just whinge and moan, DO something about it".

I have often wondered how some of these media types/commenters get hired or keep their jobs. I assumed the networks based these decisions on audience research and ratings etc which if true is an indictment of the average supporter/audience. If James Bradshaw for example, is popular and rates well then there is little hope of improvement in this arena. Alternatively perhaps it is just jobs for the boys cronyism and the audience’s opinions don’t count for much as they know people will still watch because they are locked in regardless.

I know we've watched them enough to tell the difference, but commentators always seem to get Hunt/Langdon mixed up in the heat of the moment

Similar builds, long hair, long sleeves and a 5 in the number, make it understandable to some degree.

Then again it is their damn job to know better.

I used to have mmm on when in my car, until one Friday night before one of the games.

I kid you not that Howie guy kept going on about Chris Judd's trip to Japan, and you would think ok maybe his going to talk about the people, the food and normal stuff, no he went on about, how, their words not mine wearing poo slipers when going to the toilet.

Judd went on and on about having to wear slippers whilst in the dunny, with that Howie guy saying Juddie your so funny?

It wasn't far from it, yes we know they talk $*@# but this takes the cake, will never listen to that station until they grow up and start acting like adults, and not like ferals?

IMO the worst special comments person in the entire media world is Mark Mclure. Zero original insight, and contradicts himself so many times each game its hard to keep count.

Deplorable.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
