What they're saying at Junction Oval

MFCSS is still alive and well. Based on the evidence on the first half of the season I don't think we should be losing faith in the boys. Here are some handpicked selection of the worst.

"Can we do "changes next week" already?"

"We're not winning this. Brisbane is leagues ahead of the rest of the league atm."

"Sportsbet paying 3.50 on lions 40+"

"We just have too many ordinary footballers. No way we are winning a flag this year. Typical Melbourne, pump up your tyres, then deflate you when the crunch comes. So disappointing."

"Time to give pickett a rest , keeps going to ground softly and it’s starting to become costly "

"And sorry to say but a decades long Achilles heel has been brought to the fore tonight. We lack the mongrel to deal with a pack of dirty bastards like the Lions. "

"We can't win this"

"The challenge is to keep it as a "close loss""

"Fu***** disgrace Melbourne. You should be ashamed of yourselves. [censored] weak all round"

While I agree Weideman did not have a great game I feel these comments are over the top:

"(Weideman) Should never play another game for MFC again. Find another club son"

"Absolute disgrace. I'm off Weideman. He's [censored] useless"

Finally, a few snippets of the positivity coming through:

"Wrist slashing time from all the posters above.

god help us. What will you all say if we get up ?"

"QB moved. I hate this state right now. I'll apologise for saying that later "

Excellent work. I reckon I can name the owners of some of those ‘nuggets’...

And can I just add that what a disgrace some of you were about the faithful up north - they rocked up and brought a noise that was worth 5 times their numbers.

Well done to the Northern states fans - you were great.

At half time I can understand those comments. It was disappointing.

Weid is a forward, kick those goals full stop.

kossy.    Ditto. Don’t miss any.
Spargo there are situations you should not put yourself, your not tall enough but there you are with a fist up high spoiling as hard as you can.

Goodwin. Last couple of years deserved the bricks

this year deserves the accolades

Choko and Yze and our fitness guru and our recruiting Taylor deserve everything.

and our players doing it for the team and each other and us watching us a little bit

watching footy this year is a pleasure

thanks to all.  Go Dees

A lot of venting goes on in the game day thread.

I tend to view in the same way I look at MFCSS. It’s just the way some people feel and express themselves. I don’t get too worked up about it.

The persecution complex is the one I find hardest to fathom. It takes a very brave poster to defend the umpires or to suggest that there isn’t a nefarious conspiracy by AFL House, the media, rival clubs, the illuminati, the reptilian elite, who are all plotting against us. Nobody has ever explained why they are all out to get us.

People don't remember the ride in the 1950's where we went from ordinary to a champion team winning premierships.

This team has shown last night it maybe on the track to greatness, time will tell whether the players can keep improving and stay injury free.

Premiers are teams where the bottom 6 players not only play their part but improve over the course of the season, the experts are now taking notice.

Yes the ride has started but the prize is up for grabs.

Err, because they can read, and the circle of the AFL Media machine include Umpires and the all knowing Media conversing. They couldn't possibly all just think everything is going spiffingly, could they?

However i do agree with the rest.

Ok, I will own up to one of those comments, and yeah, feel like a bit of a prat right now. But at half time, we were ordinary. The second half was like a different team had stepped on to the park. I suppose game day threads are exactly that, people venting their thoughts on what they are seeing at the time. Emotions can be a roller coaster. And please don’t question my commitment as a supporter, I buy a premium package every year in the hope that I can use the GF guarantee. Went to both 1988 and 2000, belted off the park in both! Scarred, yeah probably

I didn’t see any negative comments about the supporters who were there - no idea why we got a serve :)

I understand why people where concerned at half time they looked very flat but I remember thinking we can play better. Statistically Brisbane’s best quarter has been the second and their worst the 4th so 20 points down at half time it was definitely not over

We did need a rocket ? sounds like one was fired and a response came that is the best thing - it’s not always about winning it’s the manner in how it’s happens - to me that was the most impressive thing

For what it is worth, at the ground there wasn't a sense that we were out of it or being comprehensively beaten.

It was clear enough that we were letting a few too many easy breakaways happen and that the Brisbane midfield was doing an excellent job getting speed away from stoppages, but it never felt like we were doomed and I am honestly surprised to find out that people were ranting and raving at any stage of the game.

Goodwin had the team in a huddle until the absolute last moment before starting the third quarter and whatever they discussed, they came out much, much better organised and the rewards flowed immediately and beautifully.

Pretty sure they weren't discussing Demonland's little trash-talk squad!

Sometimes I think some of us have never moved on from 2009-2014.

The absence of 10 goal to 2 goal half of football in our favor doesn’t mean instant failure. 3 goal margins against us at half time doesn’t mean it’s time to merely stem the bleeding.

There were two good observations made in commentary regarding this match.

Nick Riewoldt praised our ability to reset and recharge in real time rather than shut up shop and work out what went wrong during the post mortem. In short, don’t retreat, but revise and get better.

Luke Hodge also pointed out last night this was a different Melbourne team compared to ones he’d played against. In years gone by, when that type of scoreboard and physical pressure was applied, they’d go into their shells.

It’s a shame the new Melbourne hasn’t rubbed off on all our supporters, and that the veil of negativity (I don’t like the term MFCSS as there is an undertone of jocularity about it) still exists.

We are an interesting supporter base. The moment I realised I loved the club was when Jimmy ran over the mark in the prelim in 1987 - it was horrible, but solidified my passion. I was 9 and sitting about 10 rows back from where it happened at Waverley. The history of the club for 23 year before 1987, and the 30 odd years since then, has been steeped in heartbreak. That year Robbie didn’t get to play in his grand final, Jimmy went on to become a legend of the club, and we lost them both far too early. Troy Broadbridge, Sean Wight, even the tragedy of Liam Jurrah. All of that doesn’t even take into consideration on the field we’ve massively underperformed, and bitterly wasted generations of players and potential.

Our supporter culture has been built on disappointment. It’s important for us to change the narrative about our footy team too. We aren’t perennial losers. We are The Melbourne Football Club, with the longest and proudest history of any sporting club in the AFL.

This team is the best I’ve seen - because we aren’t riding a wave, we are grinding a winning culture. I’m excited for us all. As Goodwin said ‘expectation is good. We need to learn to win when the pressure is on us’. Let’s not go to water as supporters. Keep the faith, yell louder, open the gates of hell - like only Demons fans can.

Many of us are afflicted with MFCSS based on a lifetime's reinforcement. I don't believe we can be suddenly rehabilitated with success in the first half of a season.

Also, it was a very ordinary first half last night. None of us are used to seeing them turn games like that; quite the opposite.

I don't know what you said in the thread but you've been loyal & supportive where it counts.

Lets hope they continue to build our trust..

Hang on @Deefiant, the emotion behind your topic and post is the same as the ones you are having a go at.

Though it is not about the players but about some supporters.

Get off their back, let us be. We have a right to our opinions without you calling it out.

Is your point about virtue signalling?

Do you feel better now, after your vent?

Is it divide and conquer?

If you are really against negative posters, why are you jumping in the same river?

Can't see much of a difference between you and those you call are the MFCSS.

I guess quite a few melbourne supporters are not used to having weaker belief than the players after having believed for so long in the red and blue.  maybe any supporter losing belief should show restraint and eat some humble pie before announcing their instinctive lack of belief. it may feel strange.... but will feel good at the end

What the OP shows is that too many still haven't been able to accept that we're a different side this year.

Most previous years being down 20 points to Brisbane at HT would be curtains.

But repeatedly this year we have started poorly but improved as the game has gone on (GWS, Richmond, Sydney, North Melbourne and now Brisbane).

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
