Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Did I miss something?  Wasn't the initial prediction 2 weeks on the sidelines?

Seems to be the trend this year to provide an overly conservative timeline, Fristch & May other examples. All of them had pretty obscure injuries though so difficult to gauge an exact timeline I guess.

Goody on AFL 360 tonight just said the same - he's got some tests to clear this week, and is a a chance. If he's not back in this week then definitely next week. Didn't say anything along the lines of bringing him back through the VFL.

No point risking him. I would be happy to give him half a game at Casey and see how he pulls up. These feet of his are an endless issue and we can’t afford flare ups in finals.

I would understand it if people were saying to give him another week off his feet to ensure complete recovery, but as fitness is highly unlikely to be an issue with a seasoned player, to suggest he be given game time in the VFL doesn’t make sense... if his toe fails him, it fails him regardless of where he’s playing. As long as we have a suitable sub (Sparrow), then I don’t see it as an issue.

The difference is, if it fails him during a VFL game, the consequences are minimal. If he has to be subbed out against the Dogs in the first quarter, the consequences are massive.

Common sense dictates that your response is correct. Thinking of the big picture.

As good as he is, hes also been out for a while and back into the highest level would not be wise.

Stuff that, he can blow the cobwebs out against the Crows.

If he is ready to play, play him.

100% with you on that.

Need him to go head to head with Libba in 2 weeks time. He has to negate his influence in the contest. We stop the Doggies with clearances and we will take them to the sword.

I would have thought that with Viney's history, you take the initial diagnosis, double it, and then add another week just to be sure.

He is his own worst enemy, and has form for coming back too early and causing more damage.

I certainly wouldn't be playing him against Adelaide.

I don’t know the exact number of fitness staff employed by the club, but I’d imagine there’s at least 4 of them - including a very experienced guy at the top. I seriously doubt they’ll let him play if he’s not ready. So essentially, dare I say it, I trust the club.

How are the consequences of it failing him early in a game against the Dogs, any more massive than it failing him in a VFL game and him being unable to take the field at all in the game against the Dogs?  If the sub for the Dogs game is the same person who would replace him in the team (if his toe failed him in the VFL), then nothing is really lost.  @leave it to deever, Viney has proven in the past that fitness has never been an issue for him, coming in after lengthy stints on the sidelines; so I doubt very much he would have any trouble slotting in, from a fitness point of view.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
