Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

They were insufferable after they beat us in the 2017 ANZAC eve game  - before they won their flags.

Their arrogance over on Bigfooty that night was horrid. Even after we we had 1 fit bloke on the bench and had to ruck Watts for most of the night.

And didnt Rance elbow Watts in the back of the head whilst he was lying on the ground??

Speaking of Rance, I have it on very good authority he will be playing a couple of games for Swan Ath here in WA this year. Not sure of the rounds but early on apparently.
Two games for big $$$ for an ammo’s club but supposedly there will be news crews and all sorts there...

hmm, not sure i agree with that

from midway thru the first quarter onwards, the general 'vibe' around me in the southern stand was that we were significantly on top but we just weren't converting on the scoreboard; the same case for the majority of the year thus far tbh

and i'm talking bout hawks and dees fans - the former were happy to be hanging around on the scoreboard and being 'in the game' as it stood, much as they have for much of the year, whereas we were clearly trying to find a way to get on top on the scoreboard as well as around the ground

i long for the arrogance of being a tigers supporter

I didn't have any feelings of dread during that match that i normally would have had in years past.

Injuries might catch us out on occasions this season, as per the norm with any club, but aside from that if we are running soemwhere near full capacity personell wise, we are a very different team than even 2019/2020.

Some oppo supporters are gonna have to eat their words and are in for a rude shock.  I'm sure many Hawks fans would've copped same after the siren on Sunday.

Best of all time? I'm not convinced they're the best of the 21st century. In fact, I know it's subjective, but I would rank them behind Essendon of 2000, Brisbane 2001-2004, Geelong 2007-2011 and Hawthorn 2013-15.

I would, however, rank them ahead of every other team. (St Kilda 2009-10 would be ahead of them, too, if they had managed to win a premiership).

They're better than Essendon come on.

The others are up for debate.

Richmond have made the most of their opportunities over 4 years, hopefully we can smash their dynasty.
Essendrug in 2000 just killed everyone, week after week. They could only do it for one year. 1999 they should have won the flag. But choked. It was a beautiful thing. The only time i can remember for the Blooz

Disagree. I believe that Essendon of 2000 would beat any other team I've seen with the only contender being Hawthorn in 1988. It was just our luck that the only two Grand Finals we've been in since 1964 happened to be against those two teams. (And that's not the reason why I think they were the two best teams, by the way.)

We were 10 points up at half time and with only 1 fit player on the bench, increased our lead to 20 points at 3/4 time.

All the tokens had been spent and Riewoldt got off the leash in the last quarter, and we couldn't hold them out.

We controlled that game up to 3/4 time as I pointed out to a couple of Tiger fans in the train on the way home.

Your average Richmond supporter would not acknowledge this or remember it this way of course.

they barely got going in the fourth as well if not for Dusty. He pretty much led every single charge forward. you could see it coming though. by the end of the third we were running on fumes. and if I remember correctly many of their goals in the last came on the run out of our forward line.

just found it funny that this week some of their supporters are calling us the weakest 5-0 side ever. They were gifted a dream run to start the year in 2017, faced teams on a short break and played Carlton, Brisbane and Collingwood, who finished 16th, 18th and 13th respectively that year. Then JUST overran a Melbourne team with no rucks and 1 player on the bench. Moral being that regardless of who you beat, if you string a good run of wins together at any point of the season you're setting yourself up for success. which is exactly as they did. I hope their complacency this week turns into a wakeup call. All good things must come to an end. A changing of the guard must start this weekend.

They certainly have short memories, but going into their forum to argue with them is akin to bashing your head against a brick wall.  They look at us with disdain, and rightly so, and 3 flags in four years is going to beat any argument a Melbourne supporter is ever going to come up with.  While I admire their success, because I remember them being the laughing stock for years, I've about had enough of them and am eagerly awaiting the end of their dynasty.

The only question is how long can they keep talking about these flags?  i think the 2013-15 Hawks only gave up mentioning theirs last year.

Hawks supporters are not all that unlike Melbourne supporters (as much as some here may hate to admit it). Very similar demographics, up and about when they're doing well but very quiet otherwise. Tigers supporters have always been nauseating: if not for their hyperventilation when they were crap then for their "GOAT" rhetoric post-flags. Theyll never let anyone live down this four year stretch. And if they win it this year well then god help us all because they may well be the GOAT.

The game this weekend will not make or break our season. We will either be 6-0 or 5-1 with more than 2/3 of the season to come.

Make no mistake, I want us to win and believe we have the players and game to do so. However, win or lose, I will be most interested in our team/players reaction to the result. After the game is done and dusted, I want the players and coaches to do what they appear to have been doing all season so far. Turn our attention immediately to the fixture next week and prepare fully and properly. No matter who we have coming up.

So far this season we have met every challenge by ensuring we are ready when the ball is bounced.

I want the same thing each week.

The Richmond faithful have always been loud, feral, and insufferable. But throw in their success and they now have the arrogance that the cats and Hawks fans got with this entitlement that they were always going to be at the top. Their fall will be enjoyable to witness when it comes.

It great seeing a few of them actually recognise that there is quality in our side, it’s a little unnerving to see an eloquent tigers fan! ?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
