Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Can members expect to get a refund?

Clearly not if you are a Collingwood member:

I don't see what the issue is here. Aside from going into a legal argument about how much of a refund members were entitled to, Eddie was on a hiding to nothing with this line of questioning.

All he had to say was "yes, but we would prefer you didnt ask" or "No, but we would prefer you didnt ask"

Instead he was a smart [censored] once again.

Eddie doing his very best not to answer the question by chucking a distracting tantie. Like watching a child.

Whatever people think of Jones, he was straightforward and calm in his questioning.

I don’t see anything wrong with what Ed is saying. He’s easy to wind up, which is why Jones is taking this line of questioning, but he has the best interests of the game at heart.

Have a feeling we might be seeing the Cam McCarthy toe poke that stitched us up late in R4  of 2017.

Everyone  loses something in this pandemic. There is no escape for the economic consequences. In the big picture cost of membership is no big deal. A refund won’t go very far. I’ll still pay mine, games or no games. I see it as an investment for the future return of the game.

I haven't paid the additional MCC/MFC membership yet. I still intend to sign up probably for the $89 add-on when I usually do the $225 one. Meanwhile i'm still arguing with an overseas hotel about a $900 non-refundable hotel booking for a trip that i'm not going on anymore due to the pandemic

If the AFL have got a $600 million loan lined up the clubs should support the members when requested. Obviously Eddie doesn't want to open the floodgates to thousands of refund requests so he just got angry at chompers instead.

Agreed.  I think he has clearly under some stress trying to work out how to pay all the clubs employees etc.  I don't normally have much empathy with Eddy with all his Collingwood superiority complex, but if you listen objectively to what he was saying, I think he was trying to juggle the dual needs of financially struggling supporters and potentially a club that is financially struggling to support it's current expenditure in an environment with little or no revenue.

I also don't think it's a good outcome for financially struggling members to see their club go down the gurgler as rightly or wrongly I think supporting your club on the weekend does give some of these people purpose in like when perhaps all else is falling apart around them.

The one thing I would qualify this with is do the big clubs like Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Adelaide, Richmond, Hawthorn, WC etc have enough finacial reserves which they could reasonably dip into without too much pain.  I partly think the answer to this is no, because many have probably taken out huge loans to pay for grotesquely exorbitant training facilities etc on the basis of their normally high income generation capacity.

If you can afford it I guess you just pay your membership and give the club some financial support, in these trying times,

It won't always be this way and when this finally passes over the clubs that have received the most support from their members will come out in the best shape. I can afford it so I will continue to pay, but I'm sure there are those that simply don't have the funds to continue with their monthly payment.

We all get enjoyment (?) watching our club play, so if we have the opportunity to help keep them afloat, I guess we do it, but not at the expense of putting food on the table.

All he had to say is that it was something that needed to be addressed as we learn more about whether a reasonably full season will be possible.

It will need to be addressed however. Donations if they are to be made should be decided by the donor not the recipient.

Club members are one thing but how about companies who paid for entertainment packages, super boxes etc not to mention MCC and AFL members. The list goes on.

Airlines are playing games and pushing travel credits now instead of cash refunds. Kayo is expecting full payment although there is no live sport. Tough times ahead.

Or what about Melbourne V Freo - 2008. A bit of a come from behind win to say the least.

The home teams from round 2 were the winners in each classic game they showed last week, aside from the North V Brisbane 2003 draw. So I expect a Melbourne win will be shown. Conversely next week for St Kilda V Melboune they'll show a St Kilda win.

The question was a totally unnecessary set up.  If Eddie had answered with a clear "yes", what do you think would have been the outcome which, by the way, would have had a ripple on effect to all other clubs in the competition.  If he had answered"no", the press would have turned it into a story about a club that doesn't care about its supporters and other clubs would then be under pressure to not be the same.

By suggesting that the club is there to help financially stressed members as much as they can, he is saying precisely the right thing.

Like many here I will continue to pay my membership as it's currently well within my capacity to do so, but equally understand if people have to make hard decisions to support their families in times of finacial stress, that football club memberships could and probably should be one of the first things to go.

What would be nice though is for the club and/or AFL to recognise and reward the suport of those members who remain faithful with some kind of token gesture like free access to premium/reserved seating and/or increased access to the players.  I know my youngest son for instance would be absolutely stoked to get a phone call/face time call from Max Gawn, Tommy Mac or any number of his other favorite players and maybe it could also have a positive impact on for the playing group as well.

Yes  true...under NORMAL circumstances. Pulling money out of the club right now just feels so harmful that I hope peoples  circumstances would have to be really tough to do so .

LOL Just watched the clip and it sounded to me that he crossed over to Eddie at the end of what might have been a very long hard day for him. Given the time again he might have articulated his answer a little differently.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
