Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The reason Freo are playing hardball is because they know they can't easily get Lobb and Hogan without giving up everything in the first round. GWS will want one of their first few picks as well, we will obviously want two.

There seems to be a concerted effort in the media to create the impression Hogan is only worth one first rounder. Wonder why!

Bluff. Bluff. Bluff.

How do you play hardball when you just finished 14th on the ladder and are trying to poach a contracted key forward from the club that finished 4th?

That math don’t work!

Well, guess what? We are all doing similar things - except that we are also awaiting very important news in a state of high anxiety that has lasted for at least two weeks, now - this combination has put us in the queue for the cardiac ward -  that's surely not where Jesse wishes to be so why does he commit us to this cardiac fibrillation by holding back?

What the media thinks Hogan is worth should be of no consequence to us. If Hogan wants to go to Fremantle we set a not negotiable price. If it's not met he stays with us.

It will be interesting to see what Fremantle demand and get in return for Lachie Neale.

It would seem that Geelong have taken a firm line with Kelly. I hate Geelong but I do admire their recruiting strategies and success with recruiting. We need to take a leaf out of their book. We must not be pushovers.

I was all for trying him along the HB during this season. To see if he had the acumen for it as much as curtailing the hanging up he was experiencing from the better teams' defenders.

But as a new full time job...I'm a little more circumspect and have my reservations.

Defenders have got to be on all day. Hogan can drop his shoulders at times and lose the tempo. That's a disaster for a backline.

For a defensive role I'm more inclined to get a proven defender which is exactly the stance of the club btw.

But then again, defenders have the higher ratio of winning or 'nullifying' contests than forwards have of winning them. Might be the kind of role that suits his temperament.

I'm sitting here trying to sort out some very complex tax stuff by the deadline that ATO have put on me, as well as keeping a close eye on the trade moves affecting our Club.  I'm not sure which is the more frustrating (or important for that matter!).

Agree that media opinions are irrelevant but in truth everything’s negotiable. This is business!

Of course they have . He's contracted to them for a relative pittance and was second or thereabouts in their B&F.

There is some excitement felt in this idea. He goes the clearance, punch, rebound, steering ... exhausting opposition forwards with his aerobics ... , and can deliver passes reasonably well. Certainly adds the concept of  'impregnable' to the backs - and he can do an amount of midfield run-on for good effect at the same time.

Would Norm Smith give Hogan 4 coaches votes

He was happy to Let Ron go. And Big Bob Johnson just seemed to walk out of the club when we needed him . There he was, starring for East Fremantle and Oakleigh in the 60s when we needed him.

.... Hardball?

Perhaps I am being naive but Hogan hasn't said anything to the MFC, so neither club knows his intentions. Freo don't look like they are budging on Neale leaving.... which limits what they have to play with too!

I don't think Freo has indicated anything about what they plan on offering for Hogan, it's purely media speculation and rubbish out of mouths of people like Sam Maclure that has driven this at this point.

Agreed that our defence hasn't been our strong suit. But our game style does contribute to conceding more goals, we are a team that backs ourselves in a shootout.

But i guess i am very optimistic that we can sure up our defence through the growth of our current list.

Collingwood, West Coast did nothing last trade period, and got exceptional growth from the players they had on their list. Similarly Richmond saw huge improvements from the likes of Grimes, Astbury, Vlastain etc 2 years ago

The footy dept would seem to disagree, They got in Lever and now they want to get in May and KK. They aren't as confident as you clearly.

Lever is a key part of my optimism... thought that would have been blatantly obvious.

KK is a great addition, also not a key position player. He will be replacing lewis, or potentially going onto a wing/defence rotation with salam.

May is also a great addition, but just because we are trying to get a player in doesn't mean we cannot succeed without said player. I personally think making a prelim with a super young list, without our best defender, is cause for optimism.

I suspect we will want to use him as a wingman & take Tysons spot.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
