I would say no change unless someone doesn’t come up. Hogan looked sore, let’s get him in the ice bath and see what happens.  Smith has closing speed and athleticism that Pedo once dreamt about.  Smith did that silly thing in the middle with the ball, but defensively covered spread and got to contests.  Different to what Pedo offers.  Spargo was fumbly, but got better. ANB will nearly be first picked

Jesse has never had much spring but he can't get off the ground at all right now. I'm with the rest brigade. Tmac and Pedo should be able to get it done.

Pedo will win a premiership with Casey and that will be his crowning glory

He will not be back in this line up ever again

How many times can I say given Hogan a rest?

He's had knee, ankle and last week a hip and now another knee. Isn't jumping, isn't playing with any speed. Get him right. Play Weids or Tim Smith for the week.

The fringe midfield/half forward brigade: Tyson, JKH, Spargo, ANB, Jeffy all did enough to keep their spots. Can't see how Vanders comes in there unless he plays a blinder.

Joel Smith - horrible first half, but not so terrible to the extent that I'd be removing him for Josh Wagner or another fringe defender.

has to happen this week, struggled big time last night could not move.

Were working on his knee and groin all game. Also big hit in his back. Seemed ok above the shoulders just couldn't get any spring, so just caused a spillage as it's more reliable than going for a mark.

Same result though. If he can't push off he's a liability. Like all players. I have him as my best F in all my fantasy leagues, and even I'm ok with him taking a week, particularly if it's soft-tissue related.

get him cherry ripe for sydney and the run home need him playing like he did before the break.

I am one that believes to make changes you need someone coming in who will on talent or form be better than the one going out for that role. That or you are changing the mix of roles in the side for a refined  strategy. I think strategically we are now set for the year. Casey do not play this week. None of our first 18 in Viney or Hibberd are ready to return. For me then it is clearly no change unless a key player such as Hogan or kid (Fritsch or Spargo) needs a serious rest to freshen them up.

He copped a knock on his hip (knee in a marking contest) against Geelong.  The commentators mentioned it at the time and said if he could keep moving it should be fine, but he'd feel it during the week.  You could see it being worked on during the game and he was clearly inconvenienced by it and then he copped another knock to the knee.

I don't think it's a given he needs a rest as it might come good during the week.

While he may have been hurt last night and copped a knock v Geelong I'm not sticking up for him, he has been terrible since the Bulldogs game 8 weeks ago, something isn't right.

Agree, I expect more from him. He really needs to pick himself up and perform.

Can't believe the calls for Hogan to be dropped or rested - unless he needs to come out due to injury, Gold Coast without their best defender (assuming May gets suspended) is a perfect chance for him to run back into a bit of form. I actually thought he crashed a few packs better than he has for a while, late in the 3rd he did this and seemed to come up a bit proppy but played out the game. We need him firing before finals.

I'd say no change, and it'll be interesting to see what happens when Hibberd and Viney are right, they are automatic best 22. 2 of Vince, Smith, JHK and Spargo will be the most likely to make way I'd guess.

Jones should be dropped on last night’s performance but he won’t be because he’s the captain. Kicked direct to opposition, out of bounds on the full, handpassed to players about to be tackled. Hopeless play.

Apparently revved the players up at three quarter time. That’s at least something!

Hogan is clearly not right and It feels like playing him is doing more harm than good. We need him right. Personally I think Tim Smith would be the guy.

Spargo wasn’t great but I’d stick with him next week for that small forward pressure. Joel Smith stays in. Everyone else stays in.

Charlie didn’t have a good game. Bring Vanders in for him.

Smith worries me but will stay until Hibberd is ready.

Yes agree with this! Also, If Hogan Is sore then it makes great sense to rest for a week. Pedo or Weeds I think

Rest hogan for a week and bring in Tim smith

(Hibberd for Joel Smith when ready/Viney for JKH when ready)

JKH and Smith both did enough to keep their spot for now however Viney and Hibberd are both better options when they have both gotten over their respective injuries.

Just seems as though he doesn't want to be there at the moment. Needs a rest mentally as well as physically.

Rubbish, he was sick all week.

He’ll be fine, no rest required.

A half-fit Hogan is better than anyone we could bring in. Yes, he looks like he's struggling but he draws multiple defenders and gives the rest of our forward line some breathing space.

Has to play if not seriously injured.

I think through the rose coloured glasses and getting way ahead of myself hymn book we are a strong chance to win all four remaining games. If this is the case and I'm sure after the euphoria of last night the players will at times think this way then nobody will want to give up their spot in the side.

I agree with an earlier poster that JKH played his best game for the club. His 7 point play in the third was a beauty and its moments like that that can make a player and give him the belief he belongs. He received the ball and kicked beautifully to Jones 30 out in front. Jones misses and so JKH gets involved in the next play and kicks the goal himself. Great stuff. Thats how good teams become great, when the fringe players start to stand up and want to be a part of it.

Smiths closing speed is fantastic and although he still plays nervous I love the way Goodwin has enough patience to see what a player can do when he becomes confident. ANB is testament to this. Smith and Frost are doing a good job and I reckon Tyson has even improved and become more team oriented.

No-one will want to be dropped now.

It was reported hogan was crook all week and he had an off game, if he isn’t injured he will tear Gold Coast apart, will give him some confidence

agreed that frost and smith both were pretty good, yes they made mistakes but they were typically under pressure from the opposition. they will both get better with time in the side.

Yes, and in the after game coverage with Darcy and Richardson in the Melbourne rooms, Hogan was standing in the background the whole time laughing and joking with a group of young supporters, which seemed good of him to give them so much of his time post-game, and he seemed happy!

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
