Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This Saints V Swans game is one of the worst I’ve seen in years. Everyone just going through the motions now that the Swans are up by too much.

Atmosphere is terrible for a Saturday night game - I get the feeling the Saints supporters are well aware that they’re in for a few years of pain. And it will be a tough week ahead for their club in the media.

I don't think Dew rejected the job but Sydney stood in his way as he was contracted at the time (there's a gentleman's agreement that clubs should let contracted assistants leave if they're going for other senior coaching jobs but Sydney argued it technically wasn't a senior coaching job due to the succession plan).

I think it had to do with his partner she couldn’t move to Melbourne

Big divide between clubs this year it seems, unlike last year.

Yep, the gap between the worst teams and the capable teams has widened this year, in an unexpected way. The mediocre teams (St Kilda, Carlton, Gold Coast, Bulldogs) have become inexplicably worse, while the competent teams have levelled off (Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Port Adelaide) or made steady improvement (Melbourne, West Coast, Richmond, Collingwood).

Want to hear something funny ?

The Saints have already started their "Autopsy thread" on BF and it's not even quater time.

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/round-12-st-kilda-v-sydney.1196199/

There are some great threads up on Saintsational ATM, reminiscent of the dark days over here.

"Time to turn toxic"

"Has Richo lost the players?"

"Spineless Saints forfeit"

"The most hopeless st kilda team I have ever seen"

and what about this one in the middle of it all?

"Saintsational meet and greet????"

I was tempted to register and start a thread suggesting Mark Neeld was available as a replacement coach but I thought  I would end up feeling guilty about trolling a team while it's down.

It's just as well that you resisted the temptation - my view is that it's bad karma to kick them when they're down, especially so soon after we've been there ourselves. I'm happy to savour our team's current vein of form and not have to worry about the woes of other clubs.

That said, the growing gap between the haves and the have nots remains a serious concern for all football followers. Apart from the damage being caused to the look of the competition by lopsided games, the uneven fixture could have an impact on the make up of the finals and the top four with Richmond and North being the beneficiaries of easy draws.

Last year, Essendon snuck into the 8 on the back of a soft run late in the season and look what happened in their elimination final?

We have a fairly tough run towards the end of the season - it could make us or break us.

First step is firing whoever approved that.

In all seriousness, the common theme with all rubbish teams is poor list management. Jason Taylor’s influence at our club cannot be undersold.

Should have used it on Brayshaw, freo must laugh everyday about that trade

That's gc with the million dollar man Lynch in their forward line?

He should be ashamed of himself. Pathetic attitude and not a leaders a.hole.  Wouldn't have him at my club for free.

The measure of anyone, particularly "leaders" is how they respond to adversity. Lynch needs to inspire his team mates by displaying strength of character and leading by example. He should be coming from the field totally spent from running, chasing, contesting and tackling regardless of the scoreboard. Instead he seems to be thinking of next years bank balance.

Poor form Tom Lynch.

With respect to Lynch I have seen him on several occasions over the last few years be the one on the ground  who seemed to care most at that club .

It is only human to get to the point where your give a [censored] metre starts to drop.  Not saying he is right,  only that he is human.

Things could be worse for Gold Coast 17. They drafted Lynch at #11 in the 2010 national draft ahead of the next most favoured key tall who they left for Melbourne to pick at #12 - one Lucas Cook.

They still have some thoughtful posters who won’t allow themselves to be overwhelmed by the desperation of the moment. Like this post from We’re on Track

“I think we're on track.

Not the same track that the club spruiked in regards to 'top 4 by 2018' etc. etc., but on track in terms of improving naturally.

People have made two mistakes:

1) Believing the club's blueprint for success

2) Comparing our development to Melbourne's

Melbourne started building back in about 2010. They have added steadily since, and have only come good now. We didn't really get going with our rebuild until 2013.

To be any good, you need good old guys, really good middle age guys, and some good kids. Putting it simply.

In my opinion, we can't expect to be any good, until the Stevens, Ross', Bruces, Carlisles, Hickeys, etc are our old guys. We have such a void in the 'good old guys' space that it renders us useless. We had Dempster, Gilbert, Roo and Joey - now we don't. When we had those guys, we had a huge void in the 'really good middle age guys' space, and no good kids at all.

The way we're building, in 2-3 years these guys will be an outstanding senior core - and Billings, Gresham, Acres, Dunstan, Long, Steele, Marshall, Webster, Goddard, McCartin and co. will be a really good core of middle aged dudes. Coffield, Hunter-Clark and anyone drafted since then (including a top 3 pick this year) will be a really good crop of youngsters.

We will be a very good side in 2 years. Forget this year, we're playing like a team with no good senior players and heaps of injuries. Which guess what? We are.

Next year we will improve, and the year after we'll be really good.

If we can add a ready made player or two on top of this, we will be a very, very good team in 2 years. Bookmark it!”

Hopefully, we at Melbourne have nothing but blue skies ahead but if not, the above is a better attitude to have than the naysayers who want the coach, players and committee sacked, hung, drawn and quartered immediately.

Hard to argue that List management/Recruiting isn’t the most important part of an AFL club.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
