  1. Selection will be interesting this week and obviously revolves firstly, around whether Kozzy is rubbed out by the tribunal tonight. This is the list of players from Casey’s last game - Jed Adams, Kynan Brown, Leo Connolly, Paddy Cross, Tyler Edwards, Kyah Farris-White, Tom Freeman, Tom Fullarton, Max Gregory, Campbell Husthwaite, Matt Jefferson, Andy Moniz-Wakefield, Ned Moodie, Charlie Peters, Josh Schache, Ollie Sestan, Tom Sheridan, Roan Steele, Mitch Szybkowski, Koltyn Tholstrup, Ziggy Toledo, Will Verrall, Mitch White Bailey Laurie and Adam Tomlinson were sent to Adelaide to act as holdovers for the Port Adelaide game. Also since then, Lachie Hunter and Daniel Turner have been declared fit. Casey should therefore have a better side than last time they played which is encouraging.
  2. That was worse than Powell-Pepper’s hit. He should get a minimum of 5 weeks
  3. No Pickett in Round 0 so why not ease Clarrie in with a stint up forward where he could prove to be a handful for defenders who rarely play against the type of player. That’s being creative, surely?
  4. Robbo’s been pumping up their tyres for months and the Hun has given the Bombers rock star treatment over the entire summer. Looks like their dynasty’s over before it started.
  5. Odds not dissimilar to those in favour of the Sydney Swans in our game last weekend.
  6. North Melbourne making a move to have Sanders included in its NGA and for an exemption to the rule preventing Victorian clubs from bidding for top 40 players as a concession from the AFL. As if the draft wasn’t already heavily compromised!
  7. We played Port on their deck and in conditions that didn’t suit us in a game where they got the rub of the green thanks to a few umpire howlers and lost by 4 points. Nothing’s impossible in finals.
  8. What does this kid have to do to win a Rising Star nomination? Hasn’t missed a game and has been a steady player all year. Yet some others are getting the nod after one good game. In this article Demon makes return, Roo drops: AFL Rookie Rankings – Round 17 McVee is ranked top 8 for players who played their first game this year.
  9. 6. Jack Viney 5. Lachie Hunter 4. Christian Petracca 3. Steven May 2. Jake Bowey 1. Kysaiah Pickett
  10. Jacob van Rooyen - where was he
  11. 6. Christian Petracca 5. Jack Viney 4. Christian Salem 3. Jake Lever 2. Trent Rivers 1. Lachie Hunter
  12. On the VFL website they have two players to watch for the Casey Demons • Josh Schache - leading club goal kicker for 2023 with 19 goals (average 2.4) • Blake Howes - leading club disposals for 2023 with 245 (average 22.3) and leading club marks for 2023 with 75 (average 6.8) Would like to see Howes getting a game at AFL level. Hope it’s soon.
  13. We’re coming off a W on the MCG against Collingwood this year compared to a disappointing loss to them last year which was our third straight defeat. We should be at least as confident looking forward to the rest of 2023.
  14. I’m a fan of Titus O’Reily and here’s what he has to say about the game:- Melbourne v Collingwood If you didn’t have a tear in your eye when Neale Daniher walked off the ground with a guard of honour, you are probably a sociopath. The Big Freeze was once again a highlight of the footy calendar, but the guard of honour was something else. And the game lived up to the moment too, with a match that was never in doubt for the Dees, except for all the times it was. Which was a lot. The Pies are top of the table for a reason, they are a phenomenal side and this loss, while disappointing, will not be season-defining. For the Dees it was. They haven’t been at the top of their game since their winning streak at the start of last season. To end the Pies’ winning streak was always going to be difficult, but Simon Goodwin had a master plan. What if instead of kicking more goals than Collingwood, a ploy they would see coming, Melbourne drowns them in points? It proved Goodwin was playing 4D chess. Like a bad Uber driver, the Melbourne Football Club took the longest route possible to get to their destination. It was frustrating, and unnecessarily stressful, but they did get there in the end. The key for the Dees, was their effort and their control. They stopped Collingwood doing what they wanted to do, like a chaperone at a school social. With the Pies not able to get their run game going, the Dees defence was able to time and again set up behind the ball stop most attacks. That was until the last two minutes, two of the most stressful moments of my life, and I saw Aliens when I was eight. In the end the Dees hung on for a victory that shows they’ve still got it. Now to find it regularly. And kick straight.
  15. Wait till the Tassie team comes into the competition. Then you’ll see a real mess.
  16. Surprised he didn’t get drafted but will be selected as a rookie well before our pick comes up.
  17. Can’t wait to hear Sarah Jones ask Will Ashcroft if he’s excited to be joining his father’s old club.
  18. So can we still nominate a FEB?
  19. This kid’s interesting - Draft intel: Clubs eye next Sicily, son of Pie, Blue rising fast
  20. Allen has flight risk written all over him. Peter Bell already has his number on speed dial.
  21. Jeebus. Don’t tell me it takes the best part of two days. How many minutes does a club have for its selection?
  22. Definitely worth a look and an unlikely flight risk unless he wants to be like Ollie Henry and join his brother on the Gold Coast.
