Round 1 Non MFC games

BT, what a moron. Kept calling Heppell "Dyson". The whole first half.

Obviously someone had a word to him at half time because he called him by his surname the second half.

Ling adds nothing.

Bruce ...well, what can I say?

What this game said to me ...tigers won the premiership with a very soft draw & an injury free list ...take one player out of their side ...Dustin Martin....& they are gone !!! Also apply that to Essendon & remove Daniher & the same scenario occurs ...I am not going to mention the name of the player that Melb  could ill afford to lose ...(he is very tall), however very confident we cover all other positions ...Go Dees

Last year a majority of games were won by the side that brought the required effort and willingness/ability to run run run and pressure the opposition. Same has happened so far with both Tigers and Bombers running their opponents off their feet in the last quarter.

Dusty pushing people out of marking contests with 2 hands.  When was that ever legal??

Rance does exactly the same thing in every single marking contest. At least one occasion a Blues player was shoves directly into another Blues player, both looking at the footy (quite dangerous if they clash heads). Nothing from the commentators or umpires for that matter.

Most matches at Etihad sees the home team getting these Brownie.  Nothing in the AFL happens accidentally any more and hasn't for a decade or more now.  The whole thing is very carefully massaged.  We should consider moving there as our home ground just for that advantage.  Without the influence of umpiring decisions the Bombers were pretty much down and out in the early part of the last.

I worry that by the time we win a flag it will be in a competition that makes us cringe.

I used to love watching big games even when we weren't playing. Just to watch a tough "put the whistle away" armwrestle between two even teams.

They don't happen much anymore.

Yep. country / lower league footy matches now have more atmosphere and toughness about them.

I wish bad umpiring was held to account like bad players form.

They never get dropped

This game is almost unwatchable... ugly ugly football.

I thought it was an entertaining game, great start to the season with 2 really good games. (2nd quarter may have been a bit sloppy, I was building  Lego with my kids but had it on in the background  and noticed the scoreboard wasn't ticking over)

Can't wait for Sunday!

I like how they’re praising every basic footy thing Stringer is doing.

He’ll probably get a participation award at the end of the game.

Pretty much unsighted in the 2nd half. Didn't notice Devin Smith much either. Saad looked ok down back.

The umpires were paying anything and everything to the druggies in the last quarter. Couple of Crows players' got their heads ripped right off, whistle?......................nope play on.

The AFL has become farcical and is almost as staged as WWE, though less entertaining. When will umpires be held accountable for poor performances? This isn't just a b!tch about tonight, as former Aints player Leigh Fisher was just as bad last night.

I hope we win a flag before the competition becomes even more of a farce.

I used to love watching games between two good sides even when melbourne wasnt playing.

I really dont bother much any more.

I broke my usual rule of watching with the sound off. Those commentators have completely forgotton what they are there for. The half time break seemed to be more about the commentators.

The game itself, maybe absorbing for Crow/Don fans but mostly it was the modern tradition of seagulls fighting over a chip. Not entertaining. I didn't even watch to the end.

Umpiring ... good to see they have suddenly become aware of some rules that are written down and are supposed to be adjudicated every match ... like the "protected zone" ... kicking 15 metres ... but even with these "new" rules they manage to rule on them as randomly and inexplicably as they do every other rule.

Betts, Jenkins and McGovern is a decent fwd line

crows underrated despite being the best H&A team of last year.

Betts to kick 7

Betts put in a stinker, he just put no  effort just walked around, 3 goals from your decent forward line, without lynch they  were missing the no.1 forward connector, they had no forward  structure.

Didn’t think their fwd line was the main issue although they clearly missed Lynch and walker. They kicked 7 goals in the 3rd quarter and stopped completely. Bombers kicked 6.5 in the last. Very poor to run out if legs like that

Maybe they are going to miss Lever more than they thought - we paid a fair price but maybe if he stars for us - maybe Lever might turn out cheap. But I do stress the word maybe - AFL football is very unpredictable circa 2018.

Two of the AFL's favoured sides streak out to the front in the Maggots most admired and adored trophy games for Round 1.

Whose left? Err............... Wobbles, ........................................................................................... and Demons. I wish....

Bombers deserved that win. They just ran harder both ways. 6 out of the top 7 players for distance covered were Bombers players. Bombers also laid 20 more tackles, had more running bounces, more disposals, more tackles inside 50 etc Shows how much harder they worked. Crows were lucky to be so close to be honest, they had a poor game.

Hoping our midfield do the same to Cats tomorrow and don’t run out of steam like the game last year.

Interesting the article in the Age today which claims AFL has acknowledged 2 and perhaps a 3rd incorrect decision regarding the 10 metre exclusion zone on Thursday night. All well and good of course. However, no individuals mentioned and I would be suggesting that all three clowns will be running around next week. (Will watch the appointment of former player and now Clown No 3 with interest as he seemed to be the leader of this rule of the week - “dropped to the country”? - no way of course!)

Sloppy game full of errors last night. The play was like a pinball bouncing all over the place. Crows certainly missed Lynch and Walker out front and more so Lever out back. Glad he is ours now. Essendon took far too many easy marks in forward 50. I’d rather watch a more strategic and tactical game rather than this chaotic fast food like spectacle. Worst of all was that unmentionable moron commentator who creamed his pants all over Etihad with his fanboy antics and who topped it all by suggesting Essendon might be the next Richmond.

Would that mean two Dustins? Yes, that would make that commentator cream himself.

The second term killed the crows, they could not find a target, only 10 marks inside 50, walker and Lynch would have taken at lest 3 marks each inside 50, they had 45 inside 50 by the third term. Walker and lynch average 2 goals per game, my prediction was right on the money, the crows  rely on their tall forward line to kick goals with betts at their feet.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
