The problem the selectors face with Viney is how to get match practice into him if he’s not considered right to play in Saturday’s game v Box Hill Hawks at Casey Fields because Casey has no practice match scheduled for the following weekend. The next one after this week is not until 30 March 2018 v Frankston at Skybus Stadium, Frankston.

I think they distinguish between match practice and miles in the legs.

They appear less worried (to me at least) about 'match' fitness....

Wouldnt surprise if he misses round 2

Hopefully he's back by Anzac Eve, that's the one I really want him back for. If he misses against Lions and North so be it.

A slightly sensationalist headline there, pitmaster.

It sounds like he won't return until Round 3 not because of a setback to the injury, but because they want to get some game time in before he does so to ensure he's ready to go.

It's not ideal, but hardly a 'worst fear confirmed' scenario.

Unfortunately the thread title is not close to being accurate. My worst fears in relation to this injury are a dann sight worse than viney not back to round 3.

End of the day he should have taken his time last season to ensure he was right to play.

He has obviously learnt from this and will be taking the extra time to be 100% right before playing. We can cover him for the first 2-3 rounds but will need a fit a firing Viney as the season drags on.

Dramatic headline! It's not ideal but a move from round 2 to round 4 is hardly the worst possible outcome for an injury like this to a player of Viney's importance.

My worst fear is that he would be out for the season.

Tbh I never thought he would be back until round 4 or 5.

I woke up with twig and both giggleberries still in tact, so I can now ignore this thread.

Is waking up without them a constant problem for you, Chazz?

I wish the club would stop making statements on this matter. Since Jack disappeared from sight after round 21 last season they have given us about a dozen updates as to his progress and expected return, and all of them have been proven wrong. They just look foolish and deceitful, particularly Goodwin after his statements that Viney would play round 1.

The doubts about Jack's injury and likely return are growing.

That does not give one confidence for a successful return.

Hold him back and let him loose in the second half of the season, the most important time and when we will be needing him most.

in my mind i have jack classified as indefinite. i get the impression his ailment hasn't followed expectations and nobody really knows

i'm not saying long term, just indeterminate. could be round 4, round 14 or ...........

I was thinking the same thing.

I can't be bothered going thru the 'Jack Viney Foot' threads but I recall confident predictions by the club/Jack, that he would be on the training track (not just in rehab) pre Xmas; then early/mid Jan; then late Jan/early feb; then ready to play a JLT game; then ready to play round 1; revised now ready to play round 3 (maybe).

Posters who think there have been no setbacks and this was always the plan should go and read those threads.

I know that things change and progress is unpredictable but the constant revisions makes them look like they have no idea or they are leading us on or both.

The club/Jack could simply say '...its a work in progress...' without a time line attached.

My understanding is that he is in full training.  This suggests that he’s over the injury and building match fitness’s after missing months of training...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
