New MFC facility?

Article here detailing plans being pushed by MFC hierarchy to have a new facility built to accommodate the Football Department and club administration.

It’s in keeping with Bartlett and co wanting to keep the club central, visible and associated with the city of Melbourne.  (There might even be a merchandise store that isn’t terrifying to visit)

Interesting. There's enough room for a facility.

Assume it would need:
A gym
Rehab pools
Male/female locker rooms
Cafeteria
Lecture theatre
Footy department offices
Club offices

And ideally something for the fans - a club store and social facilities.

Hard to see space for car parking and going underground would still be a nightmare for access in Punt Rd.

All up there's going to be a huge investment there and my question is where would that get us? It would draw us equal with teams like Richmond, North, the Dogs but we won't catch Essendon or what Hawthorn plan to build (yet alone the interstate sides) nor we will have the size of Collingwood's set up down the road. Or for that matter the advantage Carlton has for women's footy in their own stadium.

I'm still a little doubtful that we wouldn't be better off trying to leap frog the competition and get in on the multi oval complex set ups.

They are in the investigation stage DS. I am confident all your questions are being investigated.

The triangle are in question is a massive space. It’s close to 5000 square meters.

If a facility were to be built it will be at least 6-7 levels high plus a roof top area for entertaining. Even if you were to utilize 70% of the area it would still constitute 21000 square meters of commercial space.

That would make it the largest operation in the afl. The only thing it wouldn’t have is an indoor gymnasium big enough to do football drills etc

We must be the only club in the AFL that has never had anything resembling a permanent base.

Yeah but in the VFL we were a powerhouse and then someone forgot how to suck eggs !

How would you get to it though? It is surrounded by tunnels, off ramps and a river. Parking?

Does seem a half baked choice of location. I'd rather try and take more space at aami park than build a new structure hemmed in by major roads and a river that makes it difficult to access. Might prove better if one of the other tenants at aami were to be relocated

Isn't there some suggestion that Collingwood is considering relocating to a whizz-bang new facility at Victoria Park?

They must have $ to burn if so. They've spent a packet on the Olympic Park set up. Might be a good option for us if Coll move out. Surely they don't own it, must be publicly owned

My understanding is that they have a long lease on the complex. I would love to get the Woods over a barrel so to speak.

If they were looking to get out there would not be a great number of takers.

Of course they would need to repaint the place and remove all memories of their tenancy

    TRAINING: Tuesday 28th May 2024

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
