I think MFC would be the last club he would want to play for after the way he was treated.

I was going to say the same thing.  Even though all those people are gone, it would still leave a sour taste in your mouth.

I reckon he would be looking at the Bulldogs, as he will want to be the number one ruckman.  Most Vic clubs have that covered.

Yep looks like a good fit.

I thought Martin was from Qld?? Am I missing something here?

Edit: Seems he is from Victoria originally.... not sure where I got that idea from.

Trade Stefan Martin.. but keep Jake Spencer

There is no way we can even try to understand some of the decisions we made back in those days.  They were made by headless chooks.

Is the 'real' reason Martin left public knowledge or is it something more sinister..?

Would love to see him back at the club, although as others have pointed out highly unlikely to come back and play for us. On another note I would be open to putting Max Gawn on the trade table particularly in a bid to do a trade for Josh Kelly.

From memory there was conflict with Clarke, who turned out not to The Greatest Recruit Of All Time as we all hoped would be the case.

I personaly think Josh Kelly will be a superstar and is what the Dees are crying out for and you have to give to get and there's talk Mumford will retire at the end of the year. Dont get me wrong would not trade big Max for anybody else but would throw him out there for Kelly.

Great move!!!! Let's get rid of the best big man in the comp for a midfielder.

And is there a guarantee that Gawn won't be a 1 year wonder? He has only had 1 good season of AFL.

This is an out of left field idea that isnt that bad an idea if you look closer and its something similar to the Buddy Deal or Boyd deal, that has to be big enough to get it done and shakes the AFL foundations for a few news cycle.

We were better with Pedo in the ruck this year, though its not sustainable. Combined with Gawn not adapting to a ruck infringement rule who's non calling assisted his domination a year early. There is grounds for making a move if you have a pessimistic outlook on his future after this year and think an upside with Kelly is bigger. How hard is it to find a ruckman compared with a Kelly like midfielder? It could be argued that Richmond didnt have to look far for Nankervis and theyre doing ok with a 2 pronged midfield. Oliver/Kelly could be the Dangerwood that offsets the need for having a big max right right now, and gives us time to fill in the ruck hole in the next two trade periods.

Who were the A grade elite ruckmen in Geelong and Hawthorns periods of dominance? They had a b grade ruckman.

The only elite A grader we have currently is Oliver. Max slipped down and Viney isnt consistent enough.

More chance of hell freezing over than Stefan Martin returning to the Dees. He had a falling out with a bunch of players and was then shafted by the club for a pittance. May as well just close this thread.

Trading Martin to the Lions for next to nothing was close to the worst trade decision I have ever seen from this club (with the clear exception of the Byron Pickett debacle), and there have been plenty of shockers over the past ten years.

The fact that Jamar and Spencer were kept makes the decision even worse, irrespective of any personal issues that were in play.

That said, I can't see him wanting to come to us, or us wanting him, unless Max decides to further his media career.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
