Jake is a work horse and team first type of player but his body has repeatedly failed him throughout his career. With Pedo signing on again for next season and succeeding as a back up ruckman l'm happy for the MFC to move on. Best of luck Jake

Just in case people can't access the article here are some extracts:

'Jake Spencer is likely to join the off-season merry-go-round of backup big men looking for new homes.'

'He has been told by the club they will offer him a new contract next season but is one of a list of second-tier ruckman looking for more opportunity.'

'Spencer was labelled one of the in-demand free agents by premiership player David King recently because of his upside and aggressive style of play.'

Don't quite agree with King there!

Its good that Jake can look for a new home with the security of knowing he can stay at the Dees if he doesn't find a club that will give him more opportunity.

Pleased that the club isn't just going to delist him if he doesn't get a gig elsewhere.

Hope he gets a gig elsewhere he has more to offer than being stuck behind Max Gawn.

He won't be an AA ruckmen but he could tip the balance of a sides clearance numbers with his tapwork and aggressive follow up.

Can kick a goal too amazingly given how unco he looks.

Unlike what many here say I agree that Spencer has a lot of upside. If he can string together 10+ games I believe he can get on a roll and really perform. Reminds me of Mumford and I reckon he'll get picked up by a contender.

I don't mind Jake, but he is dreaming if he thinks he would be number one ruckman at any other club.

He has never played more than 8 AFL games in a season, has never averaged more than 10 possessions, and is seemingly injured every time he is required to step up.

I wish him well if he leaves, but chances are that he would still be playing in state leagues more often than not.

The only club that maybe looking for a number one ruck is the Dogs...

Jake's record against their VFL team is not great so I couldn't see them being interested.

Good on Jake for trying to better himself but I think he is set to remain the 2nd or 3rd banana wherever he goes.

Take the year Jake, it's not a bad gig in an AFL club.

I like the way he goes about it and thought he'd show he could play when he got his chance.
Then he got smashed by a little bloke.

Wouldn't begrudge him leaving.
Ya don't wanna look back at your AFL career and have it be playing in the 2s cause you couldn't get past one of the best big men in the game.

Would be an ideal target for the Bulldogs.

Jake has been smashed by their 2nd tier ruckmen in the past....why would they be interested?

That's a big 'If'

We have a player here potentially in reasonably high demand from other clubs and we are bagging him as not being good enough, way to go to lower his trade value.

As if anything we say is going to alter reality.

Other clubs' FD/recruiting will have established the relative value of every player. Just as our's will have.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
