Scott Pendlebury is the other one who owes Jesse an apology.  For him to sanctimoniously come out and say that he was "staggered" that an AFL player would have a smoke when it had been reported that Hogan had some family issues was pathetic.   Maybe Pendlebury's rigid approach to life and leadership is one of the reasons why playing at the Pies in recent years hasn't seemed to be much fun.

Poor kid.

His " behaviour" and body language now seem fairly understandable.

His dad will be happy to have produced such a nice boy before he went.

Its a cruel world at times.

Very true.

Boys (and girls) grow up wanting their dad to be proud of them. I have no doubt his dad would be very proud of the legacy he's left in Jesse.

It will have a massive impact on Jesse and he should take all the time he needs.

When all's said and done, there's no one like your dad. Jesse will have some grieving to do. Sympathy to him and his family.

My condolences Jesse.  A very tough time ahead for you and your family, especially the next few days.

We will welcome you back when you are good and ready and will be thinking of you in the meantime.

Keep strong.

Apologies for some judgmental comments re smoking - all understandable, if that helps.

My deppest sympathy and condolences to Jesse Hogan and his family. Please take as long as you need before returning to play. I hope tha the media feel bad about the hard time they were giving him. He was very brave in his performance last Monday night when he's father was watching him for the last time.

I am very proud that our club is all class these days. It handles situations like this very well. Jesse will get great support and it is at a time like this it that must be a great comfort to him to be surrounded by a strong peer group.

Terrible news. All we can do as a footy club is support him through it and from a supporter stand point, give him some time and try to understand some of the [censored] that may impact on his performances for the rest of the season.

RIP Tony and love to our Jesse.

Has any club been hit by this terrible disease as much as this club has? Although in this situation individual certainly is bigger than the club. I can't imagine what he is going through.

An apology is in order!

Heartfelt condolences to Jesse and his family, friends and relatives. Will no doubt leave a deep scar and could also impact on his health in the short term if not careful. Hard to see the light in such troubled times.

All the best and hang in there big fella.

Poor guy. Losing a parent is bloody hard. Hopefully he gets the support he needs. Right now footy needs to be a distant second while he spends time with his family.

Sincere condolences to the Hogan family.  It's a tough time, and maybe the toughest he will ever face, and I know the club will be right behind and give him all the time and space he needs.  He may want to play next week, or he may want a few weeks off.  I hope he feels he can take whatever he needs.

Thoughts are with Jesse and the Hogan clan. When he returns will be up to him, but he'll get a huge roar when he does.

I have attempted to post on this subject most of the day since I heard, anyone that knows me Knows my situation

losing the battle is not only innevatable but comes at such a high cost to family. I still think of my wife , I still cant do certain things. I cant walk into some shops

its been just over 5 months since i held my wifes hand as she took her last breath. I still find normal everyday things hard. Looking after our 3 young kids keeps me going

That is only just part of how hard things are , anyone that has lost a partner , family member will understand. There are many here on demonland.

SO anyone you calling for Jesse to take a week or less off , give him time , if he needs longer let the kid have it. let him have time with his family, he has lost his dad.

MFC will do the right thing and give him as much time as he needs , the players will support him , we as supporters should too. Until you have been through this you will never understand it . sometimes there are things bigger than football in life.

I hope a snippet of my loss will help some understand.

my thoughts and heart goes out to Jesse and family at a time of need and loss

In your own way you are a champion, Mark.

I know what you mean.  I lost my mum to cancer while living in the USA when I was not much older than Jessie.  I made it home in time to spend some time with her and will be eternally grateful for that.

Your avatar of your little guy running out with Jessie in the JLT is one of my favourite on Demonland.

Stay strong.  God bless.

Did Jesse know your son's story of losing his mum when that photo of them in your avatar was taken, Mark? If not send it to the club with the story as fan mail to remind him that he is in you and your son's thoughts and you have some knowledge of how he's feeling. It would be a touching gesture (or I think so anyway).

So sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with Jesse and his family. I lost my mum almost a year ago to cancer and it was the worse thing I had ever been though.

RIP ??

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
