Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is the thing, with top five draft picks you don't just want a "good" player, you need someone special like Petracca and Oliver already are (hopefully Brayshaw follows suit).

I mentioned on here early in Toumpas' career that if that draft was done again I'd be surprised if he's get picked up at all, that is a monumental drafting mistake.

Preach.

Trac always looked like he had star potential. McCartin was just a big kid who could outmark other kids. He never had the athletic potential to be a star. A good fwd at best imo.

a terrible error. Saints would be a different team with Trac in it

Also taking Billing’s over Bont is horrendous.   Can you imagine a midfield  with Bont and Trac in it.

I feel sorry for McCartin whose dream of becoming an AFL star was limited by his bouts of concussion a la Brayshaw and have a medical condition to boot may have some effect on his performances.

We got the better of this deal but the MFC had some of these boo boo's like Molan and Cook who never looked like AFL players at any stage of their time at the MFC.

I remember when the MFC lost Schwarz to injury after injury how it curtailed him from becoming one of the greatest MFC players of all time.

Molan was cruelled by injuries. Cook was a clanger.

I think it's best to be humble.

We have had many drafting mistakes ourselves in the past.

Being able to develop players is crucial too. Jack Watts' development was definitely handled poorly at the time.

All I can say is that we are incredibly lucky to have Jason Taylor and I hope we can continue to have him as our National Recruiting Manager at the Melbourne Demons for many years to come.

If you look at the 2014 AFL draft GWS had a mare. The only really good player was Steele who they gave away.

I just had a look out of interest and i doubt whether has been a better draft year for Melbourne than 2014

From the players drafted in 2014 we now have Petracca (2) Brayshaw (3) Lever (14) Neal-Bullen (40) and Langdon (54).

Even the two Melbourne players no longer with us had serviceable careers Stretch (42) 47 games, and Oscar McDonald (53) 82 games including 1 for Carlton.

There are only 37 players drafted that year still on AFL lists.  Only 16 have played 100 games.

Jimmy Toumpas was our Paddy McCartin.

To think the reining Brownlow medalist was living with Todd Viney at the time and we still passed on him. A mare if there ever was one.

Seduced by Lil Jimmy's Youtube highlights reel me thinks.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
