Interesting in that Robert Shaw interview, Shaw said that Hunt did a lot of the kicking in as a junior.  You could've put a bit more work in to it I reckon Shawry.

6. Jayden Hunt might be one of the great draft smokies
There was a sense of surprise when Melbourne recruiting manager Jason Taylor called the name of Jayden Hunt at pick No.57 at the 2013 NAB AFL Draft. He hadn't played for Vic Metro and had only been on the Sandringham Dragons' extended list without breaking through for a game. On draft night, Taylor said Hunt had caught the eye, adding the youngster is "genuinely quick, and could be a running half-back or winger". The past few weeks have shown that speculative choice to be on the mark. Hunt followed his excellent game against Adelaide last week with a breakout performance in Saturday night’s win over Fremantle. Hunt gathered a career-best 29 disposals and had eight inside-50 entries against the Dockers, and continues to add great zip to Melbourne’s line-up. With every game he is vindicating Taylor's faith of three years ago. - Callum Twomey

Also, I was listening to SEN today just before noon.  They were discussing the Melbourne game and one of them (no idea who) was claiming the early credit for spotting Hunt.  He said he went to a junior game to have a look at Salem and Kelly, and during the break joined the other spotters at the huddle and was head to ask the coach about "That blonde kid off half back."  I'm not sure when this would have been, but given that Hunt didn't play rep football at u18 level it must have been a while ago.

People are starting to notice.

During his first game against Collingwood the commentators mentioned that Collingwood had intended to take him with their next pick. Think they may have even told Hunt this prior to the draft.

Among his strengths is that he seems a mature young guy. eg when he kicked his first goal last week he turned and ran back to position; no fanfare, no dramatics.

Quite understated; as if he was saying: there is a job to do here, lets get on with it!

Looking forward to seeing an interview with him soon.

Hiw wrong could i get..

This should sticky noted for everyone !

( Not at shot at you - but this is not an uncommon malady. For what it's worth I suffer from the reverse malady - I would still have Simon Godfrey on the list)

Another solid game for Mr Hunt. Love the way he goes about things and he saved our butts a few times today with his endeavor, hunger for the footy and ability to break lines.
Makes me think where does Melksham come into the equation next season now that Hunt is more than capably filling the running half back flanker role that we recruited Melksham for?

Interesting times.

Personally id love to see Hunt push up onto a wing next year.

If its one thing we lack its ourside speed and dash.

I bloody love him.

Opposition teams have learnt to pay him close attention now. Doesn't get as many free runs at the footy anymore, but gees he is so good.

My favourite thing about 2016!

He made a contest out of what looked like an easy mark to Peter Wright today. Just love him - his hardness at it is unquestionable.

I laughed when he was left on his own to play on Wright, where were the McDonald's or Frost?

Hunt is a beauty, so nice to see someone with genuine pace who runs the lines. He's the classic player who may not get huge numbers but will always have an impact.

Totally. Funny thing was, he almost brought it to ground, despite Wright taking it in his hands out in front.

My favourite part of Hunt's game is his contested game, both at ground level and overhead, and repeat efforts. Most players with his speed and talent tend to drift in and out of the game but as a young kid he is just so consistent.

I wonder if he'd be playing if Lumumba didn't go down? He is far better at than run and dash out of defense than H was, who had terrible peripheral awareness. Hunt seems to sense the opposition and gets the kick handball or kick off when someone's breathing down.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
