Petracca has been good, but I don't think I've seen a young player threaten to tear a game apart like him without actually doing it. Four games in and you just know some side in the next month is going to absolutely cop it from him.

His mind is still quicker than his body. Once he gets the balance right. Look out!!

Agree, he just oozes poise, class, presence, balance, hand and foot skills on both sides. He reminds me of a young Nathan Buckley. He is going to be one hell of a player and a match winner.

They took his word for it.

Seems to be a new part of the review system.

To get to any sort of great heights Trac needs to learn how to kick set shots.

Has as all the ability but looks completely void of ideas when having set shots.

But, Gee he creates opportunity. You can see him still feeling his way, getting used to what is happening around him. He is going to be immense.

First game I've seen live this year.

Agree with what a few others have said, If Brisbane had of kicked straight in the 3rd, we would've been under a lot more scoreboard pressure.

Happy with a 10 goal win but need to work on the following-

* Our disposal was so overused, on numerous times an extra handball was made only to give it to a player who is under the pump from an opposition player and would get tackled. Noticed Petracca and Oscar McDonald do this. Kick the bloody thing long into the 50.

*Did anybody notice our kick-outs from a Brisbane behind? I don't know how many times the ball was kicked to a 50-50 contest between Max Gawn and Stef Martin, but it was A LOT!! There is no advantage whatsoever when this happens, and the ball was pumped straight back in numerous times. Whoever is the backline coach needs to work on a strategy to deal with this issue.

*Hogan a few times was playing from behind on Merrett. He needs to be in leading from the front

Whilst I agree that, in the third term, the Lions could have put more scoreboard pressure on, we could well have done the same in the first when we had 11 scoring shots and only kicked 5 goals.  Had we kicked a few of those shots and been 8.3 at quarter time then the contest is probably already over.

Not arguing about the third term, just saying it well and truly works both ways.

I harp on about this a bit I know, but those "if only they'd kicked straight" arguments are pointless anyway. If the first of those behinds goes through for a goal then the ball goals back to the middle, and we're on an entirely different path of existence. There's nothing to say we couldn't have won by even more if they'd nailed a goal or two more.

Happy with the 63 point win Stretch was every where, TMac also VG, Hoges superb, very even effort. They went to sleep in the 3rd but full of run and energy in the last and we were running all over them. We have to find that KFB or it will slow our progress up the ladder. - Go Dees!!!

We have a backline coach? For his sake, let's hope he's not on a performance based contract.

Just think how much we've improved that we are complaining about smashing a team.

It wasn't a pretty win, but winning ugly is an important skill to learn. To win ugly by 10 goals is even better.

Take the 4 points and move on I say.

True, but we smashed interstate teams in 2011 as well.

Don't know if it has been discussed, but I think Watts was fantastic as second ruck. What a bonus that could be going forward!

not really a creative pursuit, but yeah, not an overly confident set shot at this stage.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
