Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ah, Jack.  You give me such mixed feelings.  On the one hand I'd be stoked to see you make it and cement a spot in our best 22.  If anyone deserves that chance then it's most certainly you.

But the football you played during the middle of last year didn't fill me with confidence.  Yes, you still have the ability to find the footy, use it well and make good decisions.  But you seemed two steps off the pace and didn't last long in the seniors.  I'm glad you've had a great pre-season, but my expectations are low.

Love the blokes tenacity and attitude to not give up, but I don't see him being a regular. I think he'll play about 8-10 games at best in the seniors if his body holds up, but make no mistake when he breaks into the 22 it will be fully deserved. As it will be for anyone getting a senior gig this year.

FWIW I see him as a half forward flanker role mainly, he's an excellent kick and has good hands for his size.

I have given up on "mixed feelings"  - actually any feelings. as they mostly get stomped on by players as that is the nature of the game these days. I am passionate about the team  - not about players. Hard and cynical but that's where we are at.

I hope like hell he makes it - I want the 40th player on the list to make it as it puts pressure to perform on the 39 players ahead of him.

Jack had all the attributes to be a very good footballer, not sure if the body is now going to allow him to be that good footballer. Like you WB, low expectations. What will be will be.

I gave up most of the hope I had for him when I read the article where he stated that he had given up trying to regain his speed, and would focus on getting the ball in traffic instead.

If you cant get to a contest, or catch your opponent, you cannot apply defensive pressure.

Very interested to see what role he plays, but will not be at all surprised if he doesn't play. Maybe his best bet is replacing VDB at half forward. His hands have always been his strength.

If it makes you feel any better, a person's view about their own "speed" is a subjective assessment. In a year or two, Usain Bolt will know he has lost his speed, but will probably still be within the ten fastest humans on the planet. Trengove might have wanted more speed, but he might still have enough for what the team needs.

And I accept he might not be quick enough. If that was all he could bring to the table, he wouldn't get another game. Whether the other things he can bring - game sense, marking ability, mental toughness - are enough, we'll know before long. Like, I think, all of us, I wish him well.

The bit about Bolt is absolutely pointless. Subjective or not.

If Trengove stayed exactly the same as last year, he might be one of the least agile 10 midfielders to ever play the game.

I also mentioned what I see his strengths to be. I just don't see them as making up for his shortcomings, with our flat chat game style.

He lacks speed no doubt but he has also had a long time out of the game which would not help his adjustment to the speed of the game at AFL level.  He needs time to regain not only the speed of the game but also to restore his confidence levels.

One of the problems with fringe players is that they are often not given enough consecutive games at AFL level to build their confidence.  Getting a game or getting a few games and then being sent back to Casey does nothing for their confidence. That will only be worse this year with (hopefully) team improvement and increased competition for spots.

However, it will make it more difficult for guys like Trengove to get a regular spot. If a fringe player doesn't play a blinder then Casey beckons. Just an OK game is not going to be good enough.

Love Trengove but I am philosophical about his future.

Did we play a man short?

No we played with 23 and we assume Trenners was the travelling emergency who might've been set to play if there was an injury or if the coaches wanted a different look for round 1.

At the moment we have injuries to forwards and backs but no spots in the midfield.

Saw him in the warm up before the match embrace Watts, both brimming. Looked ready to play and looked like Watts was expecting home to play too.

If his body isn't broken his confidence soon will be.

Trengove would give us more than ANB & Harmes who were both very average forwards tonight...little to no forward pressure and no footy IQ.

More or just something different? ANB and Harmes are quick enough to chase, tackle and find the ball at half forward, they just aren't very good. Trenners would be better with the ball sure, but he'd probably barely touch it and provide just as little if not less pressure. He's not going to play round 1, there's just no spot for him, where as those other 2 are at least options to play half forward.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
