That applies to anyone who hasn't signed a new contract and possibly a few contracted players.

There are players that come out of contract that clubs are desperate to retain and there are players that come out of contract where clubs make it difficult for them to stay.

I get the feeling Howe is being gently nudged out.

Interest from the West.....I know it doesn't say anything really....

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/29660847/demons-howe-flies-on-to-dockers-radar/

That article is one of the more realistic commentary I've read about a Jeremy trade. This part caught my eye: "It is understood the high-flyer remains open to a move outside Victoria to continue his football career if there is no progress in his negotiations with Melbourne...His girlfriend, Kahlia Ashton, is from Perth and he has family in the city, strong ties that would weigh in favour of a move west."

That increases my confidence that he might get traded and Freo is more likely to offer us a decent trade than Collingwood would.

Langdon? You for real? The kid is a jet, as if they wouldnt even contemplate such a trade

Said one of the half backs, would actually prefer Maynard long term. A really good kick and we can't get enough of these.

...and if you don't ask you don't get. Ask for the ungettable and get the one you really want.

I think one of Oxley or Maynard is gettable. They have a number of similar players and we need a good rebounding half-back.

lets hope there is some competition for him, so to boost his price way beyond what he is really worth.

With just Collingwood interested we would probably only be offered Jessie White for Howe and our first round pick and should be thankful for letting Collingwood give us such a good deal.

I like what I've seen of Seedsman. It's not uncommon for a young player to have a poor year. Gaff had a terrible third year.

Sometimes it's beneficial to look at a player's strengths and not just concentrate on their weaknesses.

Having said all of that, I'm hardly a Seedsman expert.

I'm open to Seedsman too but if we do take him I refuse to refer to him (like most Pies fans) as Seeds or The Seed.

Agree..a bit of interest from more clubs is what we want.

We're seeing quite the different MFC now i believe. We don't seem to be nearly as silly come contracts and valuation of players going forward. The beast ( it's nature) will still most likely decry that we'll be paying some sort of premium to get elite to us but there's overs and there's OVERS !!

This trade period will really tell us how we're travelling.

Jackson Ramsay for me!

Yep, I'd be all for getting Maynard in. Strong competitor and has a historical tie to Melbourne too.

I'd be surprised if the Pies would trade him though, has signed a contract extension through to 2018.

Very nothing article but any Freo offer would likely depend on whether GWS decides to let McCarthy go. The Dockers would need to hand over their 1st and 2nd rounders for him you'd think? Not sure what they'd offer for Howe? Perhaps future picks would come into it.

You can on-trade future picks i take it?

Howe frustrates me a lot but we don't have a need for cap space any time soon and we still have an abysmal overall talent level. To get rid of one of our most talented players (even if inconsistent) because of niggling over price and to not get talent back in return would be a massive failure.

If Howe genuinely wants to stay and is committed to the coaches then I'd suggest we bend the salary structure a bit and keep him.

If we want to move him on that's fine and I get we need to play the trade game. But we better have either a decent draft pick or someone of quality lined up to replace him.

Read in the Western Australian Freo is offering him a contract. Hope it works out better then the last Demon they took!?

Supposably his Misses is from WA and he has family over here too.

Wonder what they will offer up for him?

1. Dont agree that Howe is one of our most talented players. He can take a mark no doubt but you cpukd hardly argue his other attributes are in the elite category even by mfc standards.

2. I would bend for a required player. I dont see Howe as being one when measured against what we might pick up in return.

I love reading peanuts on Facebook and other social media saying "imagine Howe up forward taking marks and kicking goals. Being played out of position at Melbourne. Would be a star at [insert club here]". These people are the type of armchair supporters who watch the Sunday footy show for their weekly analysis of the games and see 'highlights Howe' taking a screamer. Plain and simple, he can't play forward coz he can't kick for [censored]. Has never kicked a goal when needed. Constantly lets himself down in front of the sticks.

Kicked one against the Saints to put us in front with a minute and a half to go.

Problem was he went missing in the forward line too often. Playing in the back line has forced him to be involved more.

If we can get a good pick or player back for him I am happy to move him on.

We picked him up using pick 33.

I don't think we would get much better for him now if traded.

Hopefully he is used as steak knives to get a good deal done.

Reported on SEN that Howe met with Collingwood today. With their depth of young mids is there anyone we might be interested in?

Elliot or Blair, otherwise forgeddabahdit.

Freo could be a good team to trade with. They desperately need a forward who can mark. I see their premiership clock as having passed, but they may see it differently and be prepared to pay overs.

Howe for next years first round draft pick.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
