Yep. This is why I'd rather see us take nobody during free agency. We need to maximise our compensation. The loss of Moloney, Rivers and Bate should be enough to warrant top compensation, but that could be ruined if we go and pick up a short-term stop-gap player like Rodan or Lynch.

...since we have such an amazing record of maximizing our bonus picks :-(((((

And, by the way, the thread title should read "Moloney HAS a problem - doesn't like being worked hard", and maybe word is getting around.

Interesting - has he cut off his nose to spite his face? May find himself out of AFL altogether.

I guess having essentially said he doesn't like the hard work demanded of him by Neeld, maybe nobody wants him.

Surely he'll end up at Port Adelaide, by default, if no one wants him... including Port...

The reports state Brisbane has offered him a 4 year contract. Not sure if that length is accurate, but their recruitment manager did say on radio tonight that the club would be serious about him, so I think it's safe to say he'll be at the Lions

Depends a bit on Tippett I think, and any room left in the cap after he's done.

First thing Beamer should do I'd say is sack his manager.

He's stuffed Moloney's career all year - probably since last year when he tried to get him to the Bombers.

It's really sad to watch it play out.

Sad that Brent has not had the brains or motivation to avoid this situation.

I don't want to sound toolist, but Beamer was never the sharpest

As for his manager, lets just say he comes up short on his homework

Still, he may surprise us all yet

beamer, beamer beamer!

You should always ensure you have a new job before you announce to the country that your handing in your resignation!

silly boy

What's funny is he announced it back in May - at least his manager did. What a dud manager

Gee, if he gets 4 years with the Lions, I'd call that a win for an average player.

Some players sulked when they got dropped from Melbourne's leadership group.

Actually correction, they all sullked. And that's why they wont be at the club next year.

Posted

Regardless of outcome a manager who says to the media he has spoken to all of the other 17 clubs in my view needs to be taken out the back ...

That statement means Beamer's currency dropped right off the chart. I feel for Beamer in this situation, looking at those statements and the one early in the year its fair to reach the view that his representation has failed him and no doubt he has heavily relied on advice from his manager.

The only other explanation would be that Essendon did the dirty on them.

Posted

Because Essendon were successful in obtaining Goddard, I think their interest in Moloney stopped.

Now his only options are Lions or the weaker clubs like Port or Suns even.

He us going to end up with a lot less renumeration than he was on at Melbourne, especially after such a poor season, where he couldn't even finish top 20 in the B & F, after winning it the previous year.

The reports state Brisbane has offered him a 4 year contract.

He's 28. A 28yo player with limited talent and questionable work ethic can command a 4 year contract?

Brisbane have the whip hand and could get him for a song.

If it's true, BM's manager is a genius ....

Yeah, four years would be an outstanding result for him - perfect superannuation. It's still a big IF though and i'll believe it when i see it.

"He'd like to help a team become successful; leadership is a part of what Brent can offer," Kaider said.

Yep, Brent's a great leader. Just ask him. He'll tell you.

I can understand that maybe the footy public would see it as an act of desperation that his manager has talked to 17 teams. But why would would that effect his currency with the people who make the decisions? Is there a magic number of teams that managers should talk to?

I do however see the irony in his manager talking up his leadership skills and mentoring of younger players.

I assume talking to 17 clubs and not having one offer affects your currency. That's the way I see it.

Conversely, I'm not sure the manager would be doing his job properly if he didn't make at least one call to each of the 17 other clubs to see whether there was any interest in having a more detailed conversation. It's what I would expect my manager to do if I were in Moloney's position.

Nevertheless, perhaps it might not be necessary to signal how desperate you are to the rest of the world.

He had a rotten year. He is clearly gone. The club is content to see him go.

But where are those who on this site once lauded his mentoring of young blokes with his self-designed three day boxing camp at Warrnambool? Or who reveled in him giving a whack to Brock when he walked out?

Apparently we all thought he was terrific then.

A little less pleasure in the bloke's misfortune, please people.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
