  1. I am of an age where I have more well trodden path behind me than open road in front of me. My age may go some way towards my attitude toward the modern day use of some words now employed in footy circles. There are two in particular that annoy me. "Craft" - as in "Preuss to work on forward craft." When I was growing up footballers had skills. There was an art to how the position were played. Referring to something as a craft, to me removes art from a player. Removes the imagination that players require. We have all seen players do something otherworldly that is in no way a 'craft'. I would love this word banished from the MFC coaching panel and replaced with discussion about skills and imagination. "Learnings" - They are lessons FFS. Thank you for reading. I am sure there are other things in the same vein that annoy people.

  4. Try being in the older brigade. We've had to sit through the introduction of The Fat Side Great Dukes Rats Tossbag And any number of other sayings invented by barely literate footy jocks. If you are tuning in to a fooball telecast for intellectual stimulation, you've come to the wrong place. ....at the end of the day.

  5. I really don't know what you guys expect. Of course there will be these 'puff' pieces. What would you write if you were in the PR department? If they upset you so much, just don't read them. You know what they will say, so save yourselves the grief and don't look.

  6. Narrative - I swear I barely heard that word 3 years ago! An oldy but a goody - Laconic. Makes my blood boil. I don't give a toss that the meaning of words might change over time. It's just annoying that it changes from misuse. Jack Watts is not laconic, Jeff Garlett is! Look up the meaning Huddo, DerWayne etc etc

  7. I think there's a couple of key things that think we'd be mad to let him go. - speed. The games getting faster. Jetta, may and Oscar aren't. He has great closing speed and breaks the lines. - size. Who do we have besides and injury prone May to use on the big forwards? Oh that's right, let's crunch Nev. - improvement. He has consistently improved from being a ball watcher to being more accountable. People keep bagging his disposal but if you watch the second half of this year, you can see he is now stopping and using the short kicks much more and being more accurate. - effort. Something that was lacking at the tail end by quite a few others. He keeps putting in. He has the right attitude. - durability. Nev is getting on, May and Lever are a bit shaky. Do we really want to risk losing one of our best backmen at the moment. He's stayed pretty fit throughout. We are going to regret letting him go.

  11. Shot on (not at) goal - a straight lift from soccer intended to make the person speaking sound more worldly and intelligent. Only used by dummies. Offence (not forward) - straight lift from basketball (the only sport where deliberate fouls in the last seconds are considered both good play and good form) for the same reasons as above. Only used by dummies. Left to right, right to left - describing the movement of the ball when kicking at goal - its like listening to cricket commentators talk about swing or movement off the seam. Yet to be observed by sentient viewers. Thankfully mainly used only by one of the biggest dummies in town. Minor premiership - straight pinch from rugby league for the same reasons as above to offer some kudos to the team that finishes on top of the ladder. Who has ever cared about who finished on top, only flags count. Makes dummies look dumber, not smarter. Off season - straight take from any foreign sport. In footy there is never an "off season" as we live it all year round, just don't get to watch much between October and March. Lastly the ugliest of all - it's the ladder, never a table. Straight pinch from English soccer for those want to sound more worldly and intelligent. Only used by phony, pretentiou,s self serving, so-called sophisticates. Really only dumb, dumberr and dumbest. Those who use this offensive term should be required to wash their mouths out with soap and disinfectant and voluntarily remove themselves from the footy world until they have served a long period of contrition, penitence and repentance and sought forgiveness and reinstatement to footy society. We have lost our pride and belief in the superiority of our footy. All other alien and inferior sports should be ignored and disregarded. Footy is good, better and the best sport ever invented by man (or God). Leave it alone.

  14. It is societal symptom. Politicians, celebs, almost anyone making comments fill sentences full of jargon words and phrases. The old fashioned word was gobbledygook. You do not talk to anyone these days, you have a conversation and on and on it goes.

  15. The issue here is Greene should have been rubbed out the week before: what he did to Bontempelli was one hundred and fifty times worse than what he did to Neale. Christian's decisions during the year were baffling, inconsistent and showed Christian had reached new levels in defining the Peter Principal. That it reached the farcical situation where an ex E Coli Wobbler sat on the Executioner's chair simply showed up what the AFl really is, a bunch of Amateurs who make things up as they go along.

  16. I am bemused that we have a player who has height and pace and played every game, in this his best season with us and yet we are not trying to keep him and while we allegedly extend a player like ANB, for 2 years, who is small, not fast, can’t mark, kick or handball and is one of several in his position and who has had a terrible season.

  17. Once he understood that Roos was right and he was a defender, Howe has been good. Buckley tried him forward, even promised him games as a forward to get him across the line. ...but he realised why Roos played Howe back and broke the news to him. You're a backman Jeremy. To his credit he then worked hard at his game and position. Was never going to happen at Melbourne, it took his childhood hero to put him straight in the end.

  24. What a brutal day at caulfield. Som many chances in each race. Tough at Randwick too. Some cracking races. History suggests Begood Toya Mother a huge chance as horses down in the weight historically do well in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes day. He is down a wopping 7kgs on his last run. I've actually done my form, early for me. Not quite sure of my best yes. Will post it tonight

  26. When did Frost become Gary Ablett? First and foremost, Howe is a footy player, whereas Frost an athlete, he lacks footy smarts. He’ll never be anything more than a solid C grader. If we get a second rounder for him it’s a win.

  28. Downright disgusting how much of a free ride Collingwood have gotten this final series. A total joke. They should never have been top 4 in the first place if not for a totally pointless upset by Hawthorn in the final round that achieved nothing. Handed a double chance and a golden ticket straight to the Grand Final as a result of the Giants' poor luck. I hope GWS just come out and massacre them physically. They have nothing to lose, might as well make the bastards hurt.

  29. I heard Gary Lyon on SEN. this morning and I thought..... does he watch Melbourne games, or is he too busy in his job watching the “big games”, unfortunately not involving the Dees? Gary’s opinion was based on on his kicking, which I think has improved immensely over the last two years, but he didn’t seem to recognise that. I’m a Frost fan, but I think his deficiencies are in decision making, not kicking. But I think Frosty has improved year by year in that respect. In my opinion his improvement with experience vastly outweighs his tendency for “ clangers”. Clarkson’s interest in Frost should raise alarm bells in Melbourne list managers. There aren’t too many like him around. Please keep him!

  34. Lots on here think the moving on of so many assistant coaches proves it wasn’t injuries that sent us tumbling this year. Viney doing his first preseason in five years, Lever doing a preseason, Oliver doing a preseason and May not coming back like December Christmas feast will see us improve rapidly. Bring in Yze for some Clarkson IP and we challenge next year.

  35. I’m not intending to stir the pot here, but I reckon we could use this guy’s skills and he’d still absolutely be in our best 22. Watts is simply an elite user of the ball, he has great skills, and he is fundamentally an MFC man - something which I think is relevant to this club right now. In short, there are tangible and intangible reasons to get him back to the club. 2019 was a simply pathetic season, and it was characterised by many poor decisions. Getting Watts back could demonstrate that we know we’ve made some mistakes, and that we’re above our own ego. I reckon it’d also improve our list. As an aside, I was at the Swans B&F last night as a guest of a former Port Adelaide player who knows him. He confirmed that: (a) he’s a ripper bloke; (b) he has extreme skills; and (c) he’s much harder at the contest than a lot of spectators appreciate. Completely unsolicited, he then told me that every club had him as the number 1 in his draft year. I know this is probably accurate because Gubby Allen also confirmed this to me a few years ago. We just developed him completely poorly. Let’s bring this guy back to the club. We really need some more class. PS. I rate our number 31 - I’d just like to see him and Watts operate in tandem for the red and blue.

  36. Just two points Red, firstly we don't know what we might get back in the form of a player or pick. Secondly, if Frost is as good as many here are suggesting we'll have every team in the AFL fighting for his services. Reality is KPB is probably one area of the ground we are well covered and we have deficiencies elsewhere. Trade time is when you can fix these issues. If he goes lets see what we get back, then we can judge.

  37. Have played at SANFL level under former demon Clay Sampson who was our coach at the time at South Adelaide Panthers. Ok can you give me a list of achievements from Jacks career? Was ordinary a harsh word? Yes and no, handy at times when he feels like, but is far too inconsistent and shows the occasional glimpse.

  39. The main players to watch are the Oakleigh Chargers duo of Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell who are touted as the #1 and #2 picks at November’s National Draft. They were obvious picks go to next month’s National Draft Combine and will be joined by teammates Trent Bianco, Nick Bryan, Cooper Sharman and Dylan Williams. The Eastern Ranges must be a very even side because they have no invitees from their list although Tyler Edwards, Lachlan Gawel, Billy McCormack, Mitch Mellis, Zak Pretty, Jamieson Rossiter and Lachlan Stapleton will be tested at the State Combines along with Oakleigh Chargers pair Josh May and Kaden Schreiber. Lachlan Johnson of Oakleigh Chargers and Riley Smith of Eastern Ranges will try out at the Rookie Me Combine. In addition to Anderson and Rowell, the player to watch is Trent Bianco who is a good mover and accurate disposed of the football. I would rank him as late first/early second round but he could rise up the list with a good performance in the grand final and/or at the Combine.

  40. Comparisons between Howe and Frost are ridiculous. I like Frosty but he is not half the player Howe is. One has game sense, is a natural defender and a real weapon with his marking. And it aint Frosty
    2 points
  41. You really have no idea. You can’t deny there were plenty of Demonland Posters wanting Howe out of the Club. My point was that Collingwood & Howe has made them look absolutely stupid. I would back Clarko to do something similar with Frost.
