Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

See we are up against Qualifying on the F1 GP on Saturday

Rapidly losing interest in any sport that is played in Saudi Arabia, talking two F1 races now. Hamdillah the Saudis can't get their hands (or have interest to tbf) on the AFL.

Would have thought you don't tinker with a 45 point win.

And with a buy coming up you have the 'managed' side covered for now.

Unless there's a serious niggle or two post match?

Sparrow & Fritsch need to lift.

A fit (and in form via Casey?) McAdam would put some pressure on Fritta but he still has plenty of credits.

Moniz same for Chandler but not after his performance vs the Doggies.

Sparrow also has credits but has opened with two pretty poor performances.  And who replaces him?

Petty needs further time at Casey & at training according to Mr Fence.  No need to rush him back in.  Sounds very much like he's still two to three weeks away from being match ready (minimum).

DD - I like most of your observations, except Sparrow who has done his job - do we Know exactly what his tasks have been?  Certainly wasn't centre bounce attendances on Sunday.

McGrath is off the ground trying to hip and shoulder him. I’d give McGrath a fine and Sicily a reprimand. If Sicily played for Melbourne we’d be fuming this decision.

I would be actually fuming HIS decision to lash out with his foot

There’s zero to no force behind it

We sell $1.4 billion of products to Saudi Arabia each year.

Should we stop that too?

Makes zero difference how forceful, he kicked another player. If he'd touched him even less it should still be 1 week. I would have thought that to be generally unacceptable behaviour

We’ll need a diffuser against Sicily this weekend. Melksham did it brilliantly last year. Sicily is basically the only player that could get in the way of us winning.

He'll probably take Fritsch, Fritsch will probably take him...

That was a glancing blow at best. McGrath goes the full hip and shoulder and gets floored. I’m on Sicily’s side here. You want to come at someone with force outside of play then cop your whack.

Don’t know what’s funnier on 360.
Sicily upending McGrath with ease or Robbo going nuts at Sicily getting off.

Does not matter.  If I shoot you I don't get off just because I missed or just winged you.  True, the penalty would be greater if I didn't miss.  If another player has also offended, yes, he should cop his wack too.  Kicking, however imcompetently should be absolutely not on. But this is the AFL......

C’mon, he barely scrapes his leg. If your punch is a glancing blow you’re unlikely to go. Why should a kick be any different?

Police charges also have weight against instigators. I’m sick of these snipers acting tough. It could be claimed that McGrath led with his chin..

6 day break. Not sure how Brown will pull up

Petty or Fullarton in for Brown if needed

otherwise no change. reward the team. Sparrow was down but he deserves the chance to make up for it

I am of the opinion that Sparrow will begin to improve form and facility on the field; in particular, I fancy his bullocky muscling in on opponents will be very valuable against the Hawks, who traditionally consider themselves very favourably in the 'tough guy' stakes, despite those years of intimidation having passed.

on replay, sparrow seemed to have a defensive role on johanissen for large parts of play, which seemed to work quite well

i would be amazed if sideshow bob isn't playing - he was excellent with his long leads, sticky fingers, and ability to bring the ball to ground

McAdams would be the option if fit.

I wonder with bb playing the lead out full forward role if fritter could play a defensive forward role on Sicily.

Fritter is a bit out of form and Sicily would take him to the ball. But Sicily wouldn't be able to take too many liberties with fritter either. A danger player to sag off and leave free.

Playing another team with a poxy backline is helpful for us at this stage of the year trying to bed in that “forward connection”…if we can’t get the best of Frost and Sicily I don’t think we are going too far this season

Honestly don't know what his role was against the doggies Mono.  That's not to say he didn't achieve them etc but from where i sat he appeared to be one of the least 'involved' players on the day.

He had 9 tackles against the Swans and didn't do alot else so maybe tagging someone?

Possibly a defensive forward role against the Dogs but with zero tackles i find that hard to believe.  Maybe a decoy forward or attempting to put blocks on for Chin, Tracc, Fritta as the more mobile forwards?

The FD no doubt have specific roles at times and the bulk of the time there's no knowing what these are unless you were inside the four walls.

Possibly carrying a niggle into the Bulldogs game from the week before?

Against the Swans...

12 effective disposals (his '23' season average was roughly the same)

31 pressure acts and 9 tackles

CBA ... 54%

3 clearances

Against the Bulldogs...

9 effective disposals

16 pressure acts and zero tackles

CBA ... Zero!

Zero clearances (keeping in mind you can rack up clearances in other parts of the ground other than the CBs)

The FD appeared to favour Salem at CBs this week going from 38% - 76% attendance and of course Kozzy on his return who attended 24% of CBs.

There was talk of the FD looking to Sparrow to take another step up in his progress & development this season correct?  Plenty of time for him to do that of course.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
