Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The outcome of this case will surely come into game day planning for players/coaches. When a team gets a a run of momentum or a player is getting off the leash. Just do a Maynard and at the very least he's off for the 20 minute protocols. It would be remiss of them to not do this. After all it's a footy act. Sure it might cost you a free kick, but that's where the punishment for such an act starts and stops.

I actually agree with what they said about Gussy deviating the way he did. If you have seen the "lanes" footage it clearly shows it. Maynard actually did go straight up and gussie kind of ran into him. This was purely a footy incident and I'm happy that there has been no precedent set. I guarantee that if the players were reversed you guys would not be calling for heads to roll.

Azz, you’re entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else here. But it’s insensitive of you to post what you KNOW will upset the majority here.If this really is your belief, be satisfied with the result and maybe find another platform on which to express yourself.

In short, exercise some sensitivity ffs

We need to let it go but gee I'm finding it really hard. The fact that he got off I can live with, the way it happened is just wrong. I just hope the players are not feeling the way I am. I'm happy for the club to keep it in house and controlled at the moment, last thing we need is the players running out as flat and angry as I am right now.

i still don't understand how the umpire who reported him on the day was excluded from appearing

does reporting maynard  him make him biased witness or something?

the tribunal despite all its lawyers however seems very distant from a real court of law

i guess it's just a version of drive-in fast mc-law

Wow. I won't even touch on the Gus aspect of this, other than to say he kicked a football and it isn't his job to look for charging airborne objects heading toward his head, you would never anticipate such unusual late contact. The main thing I want to highlight is that what you have said is factually incorrect - Maynard did not go 'straight up', and it's as clear as day on multiple angles, so it might be worth giving it a rewatch if that's what your assessment is based on.

The AFL has confirmed it won't appeal the decision, which means we:

- Care for Gus. Make sure he is OK. This is #1, for me anyway.

- Work with the AFL (to the extent they want to, or care) to ensure this never happens again, or at least does not happen again without punishment.

- FOCUS ON WINNING OUR GAME AGAINST THE BLUES. No other noise. No fugazi, whatever. Our sole and best form of avenging this BS will be to beat the Blues, the Lions... then ANNIHALATE the Pies. Simple.

They are a pack of corrupt bastards at the AFL!

I hope Angus Brayshaw investigates his legal options.

Both the AFL and Brayden "the Thug" Maynard deserve to be sued for the despicable lack of duty of care!

Brayden "the Thug" Maynard could of killed Angus Brayshaw!

I am with former Demons player Shaun Smith! The AFL is a disgrace!

A PLAGUE UPON BOTH THEIR HOUSES (THE AFL AND COLLINGWOOD)!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

No point for the club to say anything. Just go out on the weekend and play the same way Collingwood does, then present the evidence so our players walk free.

My concern is that if everyone played like Brayden Maynard there wouldn't be anyone left to play.

Fact is, he knocks someone unconscious almost exactly once 1 per 100 one-percenters. Maybe he thinks that's why they are called that?

There are 30 players who have had more than 100 1%ers this season, and another 80 with at least 50 1%ers.

So that's 70 hospitalisations caused by barely a 100 players.  Even the lowest-ranked players for one-percenters would be knocking someone out once every five seasons.

If everyone played like Brayden Maynard, one in three AFL players would be knocked out and hospitalised with concussion each season.

I'm disappointed but not surprised at the AFLs decision here.

You expect it from a corporate body that will make money, no matter the cost.

The two things that worry me most from this are:

1) Filth fans chanting their team name while one of our players is out cold on the ground.  I'm all for tribal mentality, but within reason.  This is a game people play for fun, entertainment and fulfillment. That sort of carry-on is insensitive at best.  Apologies if it has happened, but I would love to see a formal apology from the filth about it and a plea for better behavior. This is the club that caused issues with Goodes, Winmar etc.  They need a health check.

2) What happens now.  How many kids think this is OK and try and do the same?  How many parents dont think this is OK and pull their kids from the sport?

Sadly I rather suspect an identical incident with one of our players as the perpetrator would receive an entirely different narrative from the media, fuelling a tribunal hearing with damning interpretation of the actions and instructions to the panel leaving a guilty verdict as the only possible outcome. And virtually no one in the media would question the disparity. Disgrace.

You're right, I don't think anyone should play like him, and nobody should be inflicting head injuries! It is the most horrific injury you can cause someone deliberately or otherwise.

But nothing stopping us from playing outside the lines in other ways. Nobody ever suspended Cox for his vile physical attacks on other players. Twisting Trac's knee deliberately trying to cause hurt. When we meet them next, I implore Trac to do exactly the same to him. Gawn should also knee him in the ribs. Payback.

You mean more bad taste from the man who said it was a good day for the Collingwood football club while reading out a long list of racist behaviour his club was found guilty of for decades?

I saw the side on footage for the first time yesterday and I was very interested in how vertical as opposed to long Maynards jump was. It was long. It was impressive. It was a very long jump. The second thing I noticed was how quickly and smoothly he moved from his hands up in the air to the tuck position with which he then cannoned into Gus.

Firstly this smooth movement doesn't fit with his evidence. He states that all of a sudden there is Gus so I have to take evasive action in order to protect myself or something similar. There is no way the vision matches this. There is no hesitation of thought. It's as if his flight is predetermined before he leaves the ground.

I'm further interested if there are any sports science guys out there or guys who did long jump as a sport as to when long jumping that you can just jump without knowing where you are going to land. In other words is it more likely he knew what he was doing before taking off.

I'm pretty sure his hands in the air were just a smokescreen to his actual intent. The speed at which he pulls his hands down into the tuck position would to most observers suggest this was a deliberate act. Look at the footage. He is a liar. It wasn't a football act. It was an act designed to cause hurt to Gus.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting.
