Maynard must get at least four weeks

leave it to deever

Just listening to the Rush hour and JB said Angus health wise is good, but he said Angus is filty but replace filthy with [censored] off and replace that with something else. So it sounds like his finals campaign is over and he is filthy that he got knocked out so early in the game.

If you take off your 'football is a sport' glasses for a second and view this purely as a ratings and PR exercise I'm predicting it'll go down like this...

For the 6pm news AFL will announce Maynard gets 2 weeks.

Collingwood will appeal, but only after the footy this weekend. All the talk will be about how they must appeal for the 'soul of the game' etc. Lots for the talking heads to chew over here and keep the dialogue in the news.

Then next week this will carry on like a soap opera. The AFL and Collingwood will be in the news all week, and then he'll get off, or down graded to a week.

We are only missing Vince McMahon.

Anyone who has played the game knows it was a deliberate act done to hurt Brayshaw.Nobody tries to ligit smother without looking at the ball he is looking straight at the player. He was to quick to put his hands up to explain it was a smother to all those around him.The ball is kicked by foot thats where he should have been looking not at the players head

Mandatory 12 day off concussion.

Get him back for preliminary final if we get there.

The ball had already cleared Maynard's head after Maynard jumped and thrust himself at Brayshaw.

Nobody runs in that hard to smother, not even a brain dead moron like Maynard

His pure intention was to inflict heavy physical contact

Hes a serial offender and a thug that deserves a 3 week suspension

What annoys me is the assumption by various media that it was a football act with no intention to cause injury. Who knows what the player's intention was? Supposedly they are all mindreaders. I was particularly [censored] off that Patrick Dangerfield seemed to be more concerned with asserting Maynard's innocence at length rather than showing any concern for Brayshaw's wellbeing.

It looked to me that Maynard was genuinely trying to smother the ball but the fact that he turned his body and hit Brayshaw in the head should mean an automatic suspension. He had a duty of care and chose to not exercise it and the repercussions  were serious.

I don't like the comparison though with Kozzie's suspension earlier in the year. Kozzie launched himself off the ground and aimed fot Smith's head. He deserved to get suspended and it should have been longer. The reason it wasn't was purely due to good luck that he didn't cause injury.

Keep May well away, what can he do, other than get himself reported.  A mini team meeting to show dissent resolve against Maynard's behaviour.

What bothers me is that no one has any idea how it will be adjudicated. This is increasingly true of a number of rules. The afl love the grey areas of the game. Increase conversation and fan engagement etc. But surely with an incident like that one we should all have a pretty clear idea of what the result will be.

He can’t get off.

Head high.

High impact.

Thats 2 weeks.

Intentional or accidental is all that’s up for debate, so he gets 2-4 weeks. 2 weeks is the minimum possible outcome.

Fantastic he will miss a flag!

They still need to get there yet, and if they do hopefully it's against us. Won't lose to them a second time.

The ex players, media and AFL are playing with fire here given Brayshaw’ concussion history, the high profile of the Brayshaw family and Gus’ direct connection to the Frawley family and the Danny Frawley Centre.

Lip service only and total hypocrisy if it involves a star player or favoured team.

Just watched the long view replay.

He really launched at Brayshaw. Why do you need to jump at a player when smothering and not just jump straight up and down? Brayshaw was clearly going to kick before he could close space.

I have changed my mind here. He definitely had intent.

3-4 weeks.

if he doesn’t go. I am done with footy. I am out.

I've been more than happy to hear sensible arguments the condemn Maynard but comments like this are pure hyperbole and are making it harder to sift through the hysteria on here. Gus had the ball in his hands, how on earth can you tell he wasn't looking at the ball?

I feel the same way. If you recall, Hunter got rubbed out after even ATTEMPTING not to make contact. Maynard launched himself at Brayshaw way AFTER the ball had flown over his head. That's criminal assault, in my book.

It would be worthwhile Angus Brayshaw at least considering seeking legal advice about this actually.

Leigh Matthews got charged with assault for his act of thuggery on a Geelong player in the 1980s.

Why not at least investgate the possibility of Brayden Maynard getting charged with assault?

Remember that Brayden Maynard could of killed Angus Brayshaw due to his history with concussion!

My heart goes out to Angus, his fiancé and the rest of the Brayshaw family.

I would refuse to accept any apology from that vile dog Brayden Maynard! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
