Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's probably best for JJ, but not so sure it's the best for the Dees. I thought we wanted to keep him.

We'd probably be fine with keeping him, but he was never going to break into our midfield permanently.

An AFL level footballer no doubt, but not in a top 4 team. I've never seen an elite trait that would enable him to make a position in our starting 22 his own.

He's going to be a valuable cog wherever he lands.  He's more than capable of playing wing or inside mid and his kicking is underrated.  Weak on pace and overhead, but he won't have any trouble finding a home.  I wish him all the best.

Could be interesting to see Grundy, Harmes and Jordon all wind up at the Swans.  😆

I wish JJ well, he is a very solid player. I know he has his critics and he rarely seems to run and gun preferring to stop and prop. But he may be playing to instructions, we don't know! I am sure he will have lots of interest. Note Harmes still has a year to go so he may explore options but I suspect he wants to stay local and with MFC

Do we get free agency compensation if he leaves? If yes what should we expect

Will depend on what sort of contract he gets. But I suspect we'll get band 5. So after our 3rd Round Pick.

Best for both parties I believe.

Think it was round 3 this year v Swans - came in and played well, nailed a set shot from 50 and I thought we need to keep him in. But he really struggled to show much in the 2nd half of the year with the opportunities he had, albeit limited he needed to show more.

Sure he was the sub in the GF but he played a big part in 2021 and will be rightfully be remembered as a premiership player.

All the best JJ. Please don't go to Essendon.

Toby Bedford 2022

James Jordon 2023

If you drop them in a flash or play them as a sub over and over and over again, eventually they say enough and leave.

Dees cannot say they wanted to retain him after treating him poorly.  Another player Goodwin just didn’t favour at all.

Good luck to him.

1 hour ago, whatwhat say what said:

i believe he only got delisted as the afl rule at the time was you had to take three 'live' picks into a national draft?

in a choice between him and sparrow for the 'next man up' midfield role in our afl side, i'm choosing sparrow

good luck to him; be interesting to see if he can be more than a role player elsewhere

Jordon wasn't delisted, the Afl brought in a rule for that year only that allowed clubs to move players from senior to rookie list

I thought he is an UFA because he was delisted?

He might want to stay local, but I'm not sure he'll be bending over backwards to stay at the MFC.

He shopped himself to Essendon last year and was keen to leave. We were open to this, but had a change of mind when Brad Scott didn't make himself available to meet with Harmes early enough leading into the draft period, so the club ended up holding Harmes to his contract.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we would certainly be ahead if this went ahead - may have got a second round draft pick for him.

I’ll never understand why our coach didn’t bring him onto the ground in the final 10 minutes or so of the Grand Final. Yeah he got a medallion but it wouldn’t have hurt anyone to give the lad the memory of being out on the green stuff during an AFL premiership win. The game was well and truly iced. There was no reason not to. Pretty thoughtless from Goodwin I reckon.

All the best to you James. You played 20+ solid games in 2021 and deserved to be in that photo as much as any bloke out there. You are an MFC premiership player.

Nuh mate, he wasn't de-listed. One of the conditions of moving a player from senior to rookie list that year was when they came out of contract they would be a FA, just like a de-listed player that was re-drafted

I can totally understand why he is leaving and don’t think we as a club have handled him the best. I mean it’s a bit rich of us to say we want to keep you but we just brought in Hunter to play your role. And Hunter statistically didn’t really add any more than what Jordon was providing in 22.

Anyway I wish him all the best but I also think we as a club need to be looking at Rivers, Howes, Gus and Taj on the wings to improve next year on Langdon, Hunter and Jordon.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
