Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Young bloke sticking up for a team mate. If he was in Dees colours we’d expect the same. Like your passion, but we are better than that

Absolute rubbish. He didn’t need to have an inflammatory opinion on the incident, but he chose to do so. Sticking up for his mate that wasn’t even injured? Please.

I am absolutely not better than that. Can’t wait to boo him.

Sticking up for what exactly? It was a footballing accident, do you need to shoot your mouth off about it?

"Got what he deserved"

"Did he deserve to be put through all this [censored]"

Roo apologised to Ballard end of story, do you need to mouth off like that about a player who has been accused of something he is innocent of in the media? Your open slather in my eyes.

Im sorry, but you put a target on your back.

I’m not sure by what right the AFL had to sanction Brad Green for speaking the truth but if there’s been a financial sanction, we should all kick in whatever’s necessary to ensure he’s not out of pocket.

I think everyone at the club should be buoyed by the support JvR received from the club, the players including many former players, the supporters and most of the football world. I reckon this is the sort of experience that will help JvR mature and grow as a player before our very eyes.

No wonder players leave that franchise year after year. Soulless loser club with no supporters or future.

Hope Powell receives a nice Viney tackle or a well executed Van Rooyen spoil when we next encounter them.

Such a cruddy culture that club. I feel sorry for him he was probably really poorly advised.

“And Rowell handballs to Anderson who fires a short low 20m kick to Powell on the 50m arc, 50 degree angle. He trots in, and kicks.. oh dear, it’s come off the side of the boot, and goes OOB on the full”

Reasons from Appeal Board chair Murray Kellam:

Law 18.5 refers only to incidental contact and makes no mention of unreasonable contact.

These laws and the drafting of them, in our view, support the contentions of the appellant (Melbourne) that law 18.5 must be read in its terms.

We recognise that the concerns expressed by the Chair of the Tribunal about an extreme characterisation of incidental contact have validity and that concern is, in our view, well justified.

However, that does not permit us to interpret rule 18.5 as containing additional words, or to introduce exceptions into the meaning of law 18.5, which is not supported by the text nor, as far as we can ascertain, the spirit and intention of law 18.5.

It's not for this board to redraft the laws of Australian Football in circumstances whereby the meaning of the law is clear on the face of it.

Accordingly, we conclude that ground one of the appellants notice of appeal succeeds. It's not necessary for us in those circumstances to determine ground two.

Absolutely spot on. Why on earth did it take all this time to reach such an obvious conclusion? The ball is firmly back in the AFL's court to clarify its rules instead of trying to bend them to its will. The issue of intent is crucial, because in any contact sport collisions are inevitable. Van Rooyen's intent was clearly to attempt a spoil for which he arrived a fraction of a second too late. Given the speed of the modern game and the powerful physiques of full-time professionals, perhaps more players should give thought to following the example of cricket, where protective headgear is now compulsory for batsmen.

Very proud of our mighty club tonight, that includes Simon Goodwin, Brad Green and our senior management for making a stand against a very poor decision to suspend JVR for an action that is part and parcel of this great game of ours. Well done MFC and all MFC members and supporters for showing your anger for all to see, there is Justice but you have to fight for it.!!!

Wow what a joke. Is this like a little moral victory or something?

Pathetic

So seriously that took 4hrs tonight?  They had like two days to get their heads around the issue.  Or was it just all about the theatre?

FFS

Why couldn't they just get it right on Tuesday.

These people should be sacked.  Changed the argument and the logic to support the original flawed decision when it was shown to be a mistake from the start, now they just look like even bigger fools.

This is what happens when you allow the concept of "interpretation" to creep into your rules and take hold. A totally bogus concept. What other sport entertains the concept of "interpretation" of its rules?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
