THE SKY IS FALLING

Having a go at Brayshaw because he had a quiet game. Goodwin's too soft on his players.

We had a bad game, it happens can't stay up for 23 weeks of the season.

We will bounce back and I think it will be this week against the Tigs.

We should get back Gawn, Brown, Hibberd and Lever back in.

Laurie, Harmes, Dunstan and Schache are belting down the door in the VFL so there is pressure for spots.

Think of the positives instead of the negatives. WE WILL BOUNCE BACK.

We shouldn't play Gawn too early, Brown has a crook back, Lever a bung foot and Hibberd has an Achilles. Dunstan and Schache are VFL standard. Harmes has only played one game in the VFL since returning and Laurie has played one game in his career.

Don't forget old mate Salem should hopefully be up and about soon/shortly (hopefully?)

6 Flag winners weren't in action against Essendon, i just like saying flag winners every so often to remind myself of 2021

Too many optimists, not enough reality.

Still haven’t fixed last years problems, no forward line except for Fritz.

Macca and Brown due for retirement, Van Rooyens two kicks.

It's a bit nonsensical to combine games from last season and then the next season and anyone can choose stats that suit their agenda.

For example, the saints are 8-9 over the same period.... is this cause for concern?

Tbh the 10-0 run last year papered over so many cracks.

We aren’t playing our best at the min but we have showed decent form in most games, not Lions which we were bad but the druggies game I thought was more how good they were.

We haven’t had a consistent team yet, and it’s early. Win the next few as we should and find that edge then the second half of the season you tune into finals and hit the last 1/3rd of the year at your best and take on the finals. Our build up in 21 wasn’t flawless.

Brown has kicked 9 goals in 3 games, there's still life left in him yet

JVR has kicked 6 goals in (his first) 3 games

The common theme has been the midfield getting absolutely smashed in our losses

Very very early days, but teams have caught up to us and have smartened up to our gameplan. The meta shift from control to fast footy is certainly in response to our and Geelong dominance. We were also lucky in '21 as we in hit top form whilst old contenders died off and new contenders were still building.

Regardless, our best is still the best, we have an entire season to hit our straps. Everyone was in hysterics being 10-0 last year but frankly, this is just a more realistic position to be in. Learn our lessons now, keep our cards close, and sky is the limit come September.

Not really.

It's a general guide on how much iimprovement we've made over the off season in rectifying some of the weaknesses last year.

Whilst i think we've made some good improvements with our ball movement, our form right now is identical to what it was in the 2nd half of last year. Still getting beaten around clearences far too easily and we've lost more contested this year then we've won. That's a huge concern in itself considering we pride our biggest strength in winning thr contested footy.

We're 6 rounds in and we still have no idea what exactly is our best forward mix is. Best it's looked was when we had Petty and JVR rolling through there against Sydney and it was a lot more dynamic because they both added defensive pressure and movement.

We then decided to revert to old ways by bringing in Melksham and McDonald and it completely flopped in the weekend.

We'll most likely win on Monday night but I'm far from convinced we're a genuinely top 4 side on form. It's round 6 and we have time on our side in getting better which is a positive.

Saints are trending in the opposite direction, so not for them

I think this perfectly sums up where we are at. Since our dream start last year, we are 50/50 chance every game we enter. It sure feels that way too.

We do have time on our side but if we don’t start to right the ship over the next 2-3 weeks it’s going to fade fast

My point was it isn't always the best to combine match stats from 6 months prior, as there is a lot of differences to both personnel and gameplan etc.

Always fantastic to see the prophets of doom bring their uplifting perspective to any thread that dares be positive.

We'll be fine. Should be 7-2 in 4 weeks.

That form line tells me that we as supporters have no idea on most occasions (aside from playing bottom 2 teams) which Melbourne FC will turn up on the day since the mid point of last season.

Round 2 we were expecting a comprehensive win over Brisbane to avenge the final, only to put in a a shocker before someone turned off the lights.

Round 3 the majority of posters here were expecting a loss to Sydney only to put in one of our better performances of the Goodwin era.

Round 5 we were expecting a professional win over Essendon....

I hope we sort out our consistency and go on a 5 game professional winning streak including beating Port over there. We play three of the current bottom 4 as well as North over the next 5 weeks.

Spot on comments in the face of catastrophising on here at present.

First line on the 10-0 sums up for sure. And look where we ended up.  Goody and staff have learnt from that.  Its whether we are healthier at Round 24 that matters.

I have us equal 2nd at Round 10.

Jonathon Brown/Buckley last night noted the Dees "...looked like a team that played in Perth last week..."  Red-eye home, 5 day break.  What did we think would happen??? (me included I'll admit, but the Bombers are huge improvers)  Efforts against Dogs and Swans were awesome. Many on here hate the Scott boys but refuse to conceed they are both first-rate coaches.

Not done yet , but just get to the final round in good health is my hope , unlike last season.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
