Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Let’s hope the sickos out there don’t use this as an opportunity to troll. Wouldn’t be surprised.

Too late.
The internet is full of “tough men” saying Petty is weak for showing emotions.

We live in a dumpster fire of toxic masculinity.

For all the criticism about our ‘apparent’ deteriorating culture and selfishness, last night all I saw was a single united club playing and supporting each other.

Jonathan Brown’s comment is extremely disappointing. As a senior commentator, influential figure in the sport, a father and a 40 year old man, he should have been much more considered in his commentary - particularly given it was known from the outset to be something inflammatory about a family member and Petty is a young 22 year old. I think he behaved completely appropriately in the circumstances.

In addition to their focus of mental health, inclusiveness, women and on field behaviour, Brown and Fox Sports should immediately apologise to Petty, and the AFL investigate the incident.

Spot on.

I have a 19 year old sun. He is a full on gamer and often plays late into the night.

Listening talking to his teamates and opponents (he plays a team strategy game called rust), he is often so aggressive and frankly unpleasant.

I get that's part of the gaming culture but my son is not normally like that.

It's like going gback in time to my youth - aggressive young blokes everywhere.

[censored] like Brown are part of the problem.

One of our problems in society is  that men are conditioned to act with this tough guy crap. The world would be a better place if more men showed their feelings. We might get fewer Trump types.

Different take, and this might make me a dinosaur too - tears are often a frustration thing.

As in you’re so angry by what has been said and frustrated because you know you can’t respond as you’d like that you end up crying.  As in ‘I’d like to smash Zorko but know it’s the wrong thing & also don’t want to miss finals’

I thought those were rage tears.

Very disappointing to hear Brown suggest Petty might be embarrassed.  The AFL types all talk about mental health but seem unable to connect  that old fashioned societal expectations of masculinity really hurt men & crush their ability to share their feelings.  I love that our players so strongly care & support each other, they’re amazing examples to young ppl, especially men, about how you love your mates.

I don't think that's quite what he said.

I heard it as Brown saying, after footage of him crying, that petty might be embarrassed for his part.

Which, even if I'm right is still pathetic. I mean what possible reason would petty have to be embarrassed?

The last quarter should be viewed through the lens of that incident.

The entire team was impacted by seeing petty so obviously distressed and would have white hot angry, particularly his brothers in arm down back.

Impressive effort by our boys , particularly Harry  to remain as focused as they did and not lose the plot and do something silly.

Can only speak for myself but I would be a bit embarrassed if there was footage of me crying being watched on replay by a million people including everyone I know.

social media algorithms help these [censored] find each other. In the past they wouldn't have the guts to make a comment. Now type anything and you find a crowd to back you up no matter how sick and twisted you are.

I dislike Zorko as much as the next guy, but there was heaps of niggle, and scuffles prior to this incident, Zorko was their main protagonist probably trying to get some reaction from his teammates. Through all that, there were plenty of words coming from Demons, many of them... You don't have to scoll Twitter for long to see there's a bit of ammunition to throw Zorkos way if you chose to... How do we know Petty or other Demons didn't cast the first stone...?

Hope this doesn't result in embarrassment of being able to dish it out but not take it.

Big big difference between getting stuck into one another and getting stuck into a family member.
That stuff is off limits for a reason. There is no need for it. Ever.

I think you’re all bring too harsh on Brown until we know what he meant by this. There are several ways to read into it. Maybe he referring to personal family details being discussed amongst the public. Or all the attention when this should be kept in-house. Brown has shown to be a good person over many years and seems to be a good father too. Let’s not cancel him just yet

He gave Hipwood an absolute bath, which has been somewhat overlooked.

I loved how our players gave it to Zorko at every opportunity afterwards. Not sure if Demon sides from previous years would have had that in them.

I tend to agree

But my point is, how do we know a Demon didn't do that first?

I suppose we don’t. But I know who has form with appalling on field behavior and it’s not Melbourne players.

Zorko got in trouble for his treatment of Touk Miller earlier this year. He is not a good person. Or a smart one.

No shame in responding emotionally to a slight directed at your family. Good on him for showing the impact it can have

AFL must be big enough to make a statement.  We have all this about caring for mental health and about men talking about how they are feeling. Yes are “R U OK” ?

Well it’s clear Harrison Petty is not ok.  I don’t care what it’s about. Zorko should apologize and say verbal taunts are NOT OK.

Petty is a great young player and must be supported.

Great to see him teammates supporting him.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
