Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree with you don't worry, however all of this was Max's idea from the start don't forget.

Yes because Max wanted to be fit and healthy in September. He wouldn’t care who helped him get there.

Hi Febes. I thought it was Goody's idea and he had to talk Max around to it?

That makes me feel a bit better about it all but it's still not a nice situation for him. He thought he was going to a club that genuinely wanted him, unlike his former employer.

We did want him, it just hasn’t worked out so far

It was Goody idea all along.

Goody invited Max to his house without much explanation.

Max rocks up to Goodys house, walks into the loungeroom and there was Brodie Grundy sitting alongside Alan Richardson and Tim Lamb there to the surprise of Gawn. That's where Goody put the idea to both Grundy and Max potentially playing together in which Gawn was sold with the idea straight away.

Only half joking-Push him to a club that won't be contending with us for a season or two...Couldn't stand to see him pants us in a final.

I really hate the media he has copped. Done nothing wrong.

I think ironically it has been Max that has been the reason why it hasn't worked.

Anyone who knows anything about Grundy knows he cannot play forward. I was in the "keep Wiedeman" camp so we could play him as our 2nd ruck and forward with Roo/McDonald/Brown (obviously that would have turned into Wied at VFL most likely due to him being just unable to come on).

Anyway all that aside, the only way Grawndy would work is if Gawn were the 2nd ruck + forward. I still think that would work very well but for some reason we haven't tried it and seem to think Grundy needs to be the forward when the stretch for him to play forward is so much  greater than for Gawn to do it.

All in all Grundy has still been a good pickup this year given we would have been stuffed during Max's injury without him, plus Gawn seems to be fit and firing now due to the decreased load.

Still a nonzero chance of him being required to play #1 ruck in a grand final for Melbourne within the next 6 weeks. So much water to flow under the bridge.

They are educated through the contacts she has with agents and footy depts.

The guess part comes when, as @old55 would say, there is a bit of water yet to flow before October.

I would like to know why the experiment failed was it Max wanting max time or isn't Grundy up to it??

Should work out ok if we trade but what a lot of bother

Many on here predicted it wouldn't work by the way

What was our most important win for the year?

Some would rightfully argue against Collingwood?

Did we win and were they both playing?

WTF

I’d argue it’s obvious why it didn’t work. Neither Gawn nor Grundy contributed anything substantial in the forward line. If either of them did it would have worked.

I'm wondering who we think is our ruck back up should Grundy go and Max gets an injury.

For me the cupboard would be well and truly bare - Schache isn't really up to it IMO and Verrall whilst showing potential is not ready and may not be for some time.

If Grundy is going, I hope we are seriously looking at another ruck who can compete with the big boys.

JVR is a better ruckman than Grundy is a forward. I've been amazed by some of JVR's tapwork this year.

So, in the scenario I referred to you'd push JVR into the main ruck role? Not my preference

I’m sorry but Max Gawn is the best ruckman in the game. Has been for about 6 years now. Why should he give up the number one ruck spot?
Grundy hasn’t adapted to playing beyond the ruck. He’s a very poor mark for his height and his impact at ground level has been just ok.
I have nothing against this trade or what the club was trying to do, but Gawn being Gawn is not the problem here. He is an elite footballer and we are lucky to have him!

I’m not convinced the club worked them the best way possible but what would I know. I’d of tried Grundy as a 50% ruck, 20% forward, 30% bench and Gawn 50% ruck, dropping behind the ball and 20% bench. I’d of had them both on the ground but always 50m apart, blocking space and being a threat forward.

100% this. When either of them are forward, they end up too deep and we often just end up bombing to them and end up with at least two dees flying for the same ball (+ kozzie alot of the time) without success. Jackson was able to push up and be a linking forward. I thought Grundy would have been capable of this but hasn't so far

We bomb whoever is in the forward line.

When the original pairing was touted it was a scenario such as outlined above that came to mind  .. and yet as you suggest we never saw this. Odd really.  Oh well.
