Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

JAKE BOWEY APPRECIATION THREAD.

Recommended Posts

I’m not sure that the comparison to Caleb Daniel is warranted: Daniel is 165/166 cm tall and Jake is 177 cm tall (stats on both players do vary depending where you look). However that’s a good 4” difference in height and not much shorter than Jack Viney but quite a bit taller than Charlie Spargo* or Kossy Pickett. Jake seems to play a different game to Daniel as well, being more inside the action than standing back and mopping up.

I saw Jake live for the first time on Friday night and was very impressed. He fits in beautifully - what a find!

*173cm, a very sensible height 😀

Just sayin... If Bowser keeps this high standard up all year in 2022 he will be the NAB Rising Star and set another AFL / VFL record for a Club obtaining a NAB Rising Star two years in a row.   Watch this space.

That feat has already been achieved twice, David.

Nathan Buckley at Brisbane in 1993 and Chris Scott the year after.

Justin Koschitzke at St Kilda in 2001 followed by Nick Riewoldt in 2002.

By the way mate, are you still in Ohio or have you made your way back to Oz?

In some game soon, he will get beaten by his direct opponent for the first time, and (hopefully not) the Dees will lose one with him playing. These two things will be the making of him. Once he faces difficulty and emerges the other side, I see him as a 200+  gamer. His poise is so stabilising, and after watching 2 decades of a squad with poor disposal, it is pure joy to see him kicking so well, so easily, so often.

The Brett Lovett comparison is interesting. Along with Gary Hardeman, Brett Lovett is the next best Dees defender I have seen. Bowey has a fair way to go to get into this rare air, but his kicking and reliability does remind of Lovett. And that is VERY pleasing.

Although Jake wasn’t our best performing Casey player at the time, he was identified as the player to assist us with that given his disposal, footy smarts and ability to win a one one contest. Immediately we started kicking higher scores.

The rest is history…

FMD who was the best performing Casey player at the time? If he is better than Bowey bring him in. Petracca and Oliver might need to watch their back.

Look I never said it had not been done before. He would join the elite with the other AFL record holders.  fyi: Buckley and Scott won at Brisbane as well in years 1993 and 1994 but he would join an elite group, that is my point.

Christian Salem is starting to threaten the above 2 players as an elite defender on half back. Leave a key position player out of comparison as a half backs comparison snd Lovey was a gem.

How  are  we going to judge Rick ( Jake Lever) as KP  half back or interceptor ? As he will be in the mix like Salo in 2/3 years time especially if we win another flag or two.

The key word was ANOTHER but it can be read either way!

Yes this guy is special. But I worry at his light frame. A big hit could do a lot of damage to a small guy like him.

You'd be surprised. Small people are difficult to injure, especially when well-conditioned.

David, you said that Bowey would set a record if he won.  It can't be a record if it's been done twice before.

And for YOUR information I cited Buckley and Scott in my post.

I apologise, you did include them.

But never by a club that was fighting for the flag. IIRC Saints and Brisbane were both at the bottom of the ladder. Harder to break into and stay in a premiership team.

Hard to believe he’s 19 years old and 10 games in to his career, he looks like a veteran.

I reckon he’s an example of what happens when all the blocks are in place. He’s developed as a player at the fastest possible rate, because the system surrounding him has allowed him to. I can’t imagine him playing like he is if he’d walked in the door in 2012.

And that is despite the absolute dogs dinner of VFL 2020-21

Yep I can see a little of Brett Lovett in Jake too

Jake Bowey's addition to the team last year in retrospect was a masterstroke by Goody and the selectors. He deservedly is due the praise and recognition he has received since his debut. A terrific advertisement for the game of Australian rules at the elite level. Shows that a smaller statue and slender physique are no barrier to a determined young man on the rise. Not afraid to mix it with the bigger bodies where lesser angels may fear to tread.

Get the comparison with Brett Lovett skill wise, but to my mind certainly has more zip and mobility, nor is he as robust. A natural footballer with a very good football bloodline like young Charlie Spargo. Who has made an auspicious start to his career. Long into the season may his talismanic run of winning games continue.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
