TEAMS: QF vs Brisbane

Demonland

I wonder if Jones will be the sub this week they usually don't use the same sub 2 weeks in a row. Although vandenBerg did it. Joel will play on Cameron and I think he will do a good job too he can play tall and small.

And Zac Bailey - he is the threat IMO.  Harmes maybe????

He tore us a new one last time I think either Riv or Bowsa will get the job.

In other words, no decisions taken yet.

The decision has been taken to retain the same 22 that got the job done last game.

What is unknown until about an hour before the game is which of the four emergencies will be the sub.

Great for our young players to get a go at it.

Give them hell, Jackson, River, Bowey, Pickett, Petty, Sparrow. Spargs.

Surprised about Smith, thought he may have been a bit underdone. Hoping he is match fit after only a few games.

Tracc has been setting himself for the finals, (guessing). I expect a dominant performance. May will be in the same boat

Langdon and Salem could be the difference.

C'mon big game players, step it up.

Go Dees.

Genuinely surprised jj is not in for Captain Jack.

Yeah, it's an interesting one. Jordon's form really has dropped off in the past six weeks though. He was a revelation at the start of the year. Suprising us with his defensive efforts and even the odd goal.

Sparrow worries me with his disposal but you can't question his willingness to compete or get stuck in.

Love this - last game 2019 not one of these player was at the club or Best 22.
Add JJ and that’s one third team.
Now in a qualifying final after our best win since Salem’s goal v Essendon.

I realise it’s ancient history but it would have been great to have Tomlinson with May and Lever - he saw these days coming and that’s why he was so upset when it happened

Hopefully we can back up next year too

Petty has been more than an adequate replacement.

Nah.

He's played in enough finals and a grand final.

I'm stoked for for the guys like Petty who are getting their first taste of finals.

The young ones won't know much about the struggles to get into a final, and being in one (though there will be guidance, such as; absorb the experience, be in the moment, play your normal game, do the simple things well), though after last week's effort they will have belief. I imagine they will play with plenty of energy and confidence, as will the rest.

Jordon will be back. I have been so impressed with Sparrow's energy, marking and contested possession abilities. Some other shortcomings can be rectified. I expect we will be impressed with what's to come with this young man's game in the finals. So excited!

Sparrow has shown he can dispose of the ball well. His inconsistencies in the delivery of the ball, must be about anxiety, feeling rushed and or being inexperienced.

You can see fast development happening as he gets more games and becomes more instinctual.

I am with you, believing we will be impressed by him.

Kozzie seems to have a go at any of the opposition who have the ball and are near him. Has got great closing speed.

Does anyone know if we are taking more than those named 26 to Adelaide and on to Perth?
And what is the situation re Majak’s suspension?  Would the Demons last match count seeing that it was neither an AFL nor a VFL match in which he was suspended, and no VFL matches were played.
I guess it is like so many things something that Gil will try to avoid, but make up on the run if needed.

You have to feel for Hibberd and Jordon, both of whom have been mainstays of our best 22 this year but now find themselves on the outer.

Well done to Smith and Sparrow for standing up at the right time to get their spots.

Would love for Jones to be the sub but you'd expect Jordon is the more likely option.

My word I do. Actually, I can’t understand it. I’d feel a lot more comfortable with Hibbo and Jordon in the team instead of Smith and Sparrow.

Hibbo put the clamp on Cameron last time and, in my opinion, offers more than Smith with his rebound and ball use. He’s also finals-hardened, better understands his role with May/Lever and more composed under pressure.

I worry that the Viney/Harmes/Sparrow triumvirate, although damn gutsy, has a bit too much sameness - a ‘bees to honeypot’ quality - about it. Jordon adds something different, a bit more versatility, a bit more of an outside game, a bit more awareness of the next play and where to position himself, while being hard as nails himself and a good tackler.

But what do I know. During the third quarter last Sat, I thought we’d lost the game at selection, and then I witnessed The Miracle of Kardinia!

I believe Tomlinson has played 10 finals. The most on our list. He has had a lot of chances - but I agree I think he also saw these days coming.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
