  1. Yes, Rod Carter did a fine job on him, Gerard thought. How about Bunghole’s (Dunstall’s) remark after Bayley’s fifth: “I haven’t really noticed Fritsch that much.” And Dwayne whipping himself into a frenzy after the Hawks’ goal early in the last, then checking himself mid sentence: “And that brings the 32-point margin from quarter time back to . . . 30 points.” Volume down next time.
  2. He also has great difficulty with past participles: “would of went”, “could’ve came” etc.
  3. I got the letter but not the e-mail. No matter, I had already voted via proxy in favour of the Board’s - on the whole - pragmatic, reasonable and incremental changes to the Constitution. I would urge other members to do the same if for no other reason than to save the Club $200k now (and a whole heap of time) associated with electronic voting for director elections. More substantive changes can happen later. And another thing. I’m sorry, Deemocracy, but the cynic in me views your proposal to make wholesale changes to the Constitution (particularly around club purpose & identity, and inclusion & diversity) as noble posturing, when it appears what is really sought is easier access for a member or members of your group to get on the Board, having missed out repeatedly in the past. In my view, the incumbents are united and cohesive, were well and truly vindicated in their stance to stand by our senior coach (and CEO) and jettison he-who-must-not-be-named last year and, of course, presided over the Club’s first Premiership in 57 excruciating, long years. I mean, really, what is this all about? The Club has never been in as good a shape - in my lifetime, which is reaching the half century mark - as it is now. Finally, and no offence to all the lovely CAs out there, but we have enough Chartered Accountants on the Board as it is. (I can say that because I’m a CA myself, although not working as one at the moment - no great loss to the profession, I’m afraid to say!)
  4. Back on topic, might be time to change my moniker. It's a bit too close to the truth. I had noble reasons for using my real name - wanting to be accountable for the things I said online, keeping myself in check. But to hell with that now! Also, I don't want to be confused with @BenF, @Ben, @Ben Elliott, @Bendigo Demon, @benman (binman's NZ counterpart!) etc. I'm liking all this music talk. Perhaps that's where I'll go with the new name . . .
  5. "The Gospel of Luke", deary me. If The West Australian had only consulted the wordsmiths of Demonland (and tapped into the rollercoaster of emotions screaming out on every page of this voluminous thread) , I'm sure they could have come up with a more memorable headline. How about "The Gospel of Puke"? Ok, that was childish. What about "Dees bent over, Dogga-style"? Too risqué? (Sorry to all the missionaries out there.) Or any one of the following: Way to go, Luke, as Dees’ hearts bleat poo Every Dogga has his (pay)day Lukewarm Dee docks, grins then sinks in Freo Harbour with ship full of gold The Jackson 7: monster deal has Luke singing “I’ll be there” The Bell tolls for Dee: behind the secret mid-season meeting (with diminutive, cloaked man in bar) that brought Luke home Mum’s the word: young star unable to articulate reasons of move Ok, perhaps not. Maybe "The Gospel of Luke" ain't so bad after all. I'll see myself out.
  6. I was taking the pess, dd, but thank you for the coronation!
  7. “It’s coming home, back where it belongs.” He stole that from Max Gawn (and Ben Gibson).
  8. At the game with @Return to Glory, this is vomit-inducing.
  9. Sadly took most stuff down but, what the hell, kept the 2021 banner on show (and red and blue Haymes paint up top)! Was riding high with those 17 straight wins. Second half of this season was torture, however. Saw all 8 losses, 7 of which followed same pattern. My daughters and I screamed our guts out last night but to no avail. Sorry to say but it’s almost a relief that the 2022 campaign is over. I don’t think I could take yet another team reel us in, in the second half of games with even greater stakes, after holding a commanding early lead. So deflating. I would generally find solace in the mighty Reds but even they are struggling!
  10. I fear Goody/match committee has become wedded to current approach/structure but I’ve wanted to see this for months: - JVR in for Melk; - Bowey in for whoever; - Brayshaw to defensive wing; and - Max as starting ruck (always), and playing more ‘kick behind play’ than up forward. None of this is likely to happen, however, as we’ll probably go with what worked in R23.
  11. Thanks for that! (Spirit of the Demons would have been better!)
  12. Not really sure. I know the Scots had a bit to do in building and settling into houses in our street in the 19th century. But the name on our facade is more American Indian than Scottish, I would have thought!
  13. How funny, M!! Feel free to chat about the Dees if I’m out the front next time you pass by!
  14. Scarves, flags fading a bit after 12 months but the red and blue Haymes paint lookin’ as good as new! Nothing’s coming down as long as we remain the reigning premiers! (What can’t be seen in the pic are: life size Max Gawn cut-out which has gone slightly yellow; a big toy tiger draped in a Dees’ cape, reclining on bench; signed Clarry jumper in the window; miniature figurines of Max and Jack perched on the window sills; MFC clock and footy over the door; and various other red and blue paraphernalia scattered about!)
  15. Thanks LH, I think it was because of the size of the pic. Good excuse to become a Life Member (high time I did)!
  16. Indeed. The two greatest weeks of my then 13-year-old life (followed by the worst)!
  17. Let’s get >80k like in ‘87 when we absolutely destroyed them!
  18. JVR for Melksham: Melky has done better than I thought but we need a more imposing and dynamic F50 presence to complement BB. I’d also like to see Max be able to roam a bit more a kick behind play, and not be sat on, scragged and kneed mercilessly as a sitting duck/key target in our forward pockets. JVR could give us a spark and a bit of unpredictability inside 50. Bowey for Hibberd: line ball on whether it’s Hibbo, Hunt or Rivers out but - in the helter skelter of a finals-like game last night - I saw signs of decline in our Pig warrior. Hunt can play the lockdown role and has more pace/agility now. Bowey comes in as a much-needed, composed distributor down back. Harmes for Jordon: Jordon very stiff but I see Brayshaw as an upgrade on the wing (have been waiting for him to play there all season), particularly heading into finals, and Harmes slots into the midfield rotation. Despite a relatively quiet game, Sparrow to remain for now. His strength, explosiveness and ability to score are suited to September football. Having said that, I wouldn’t be surprised if Harmesy came in for Tom, and Jordon remained on the wing as reward for a more consistent season than his housemate.
