Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ourselves?

Is this a riddle?

The answer is Matthew McConaughey behind the book case?? Coz I still don’t understand that... the 5th dimension? What happened to the 4th? You skipped a dimension!

The thing I'm loving about this years team is the certain knowledge we have that someone who comes into the team to replace the  injured player is good enough to play a role and allow the team to roll along seamlessly as if nothing was different.

We probably thought Tomlinson would be sorely missed ( and he is ) but Petty is a more than adequate replacement taking intercept marks and cool in a crisis.

Last night Sparrow was fairly quiet, but to come into the team against that opposition and to stand up when it counted was amazing

I struggled to sleep last night I was that excited by what we displayed.

Brisbane rattled us with pressure in the first half and we looked panicked coming out of the backline which was not surprising considering it was 18-32 inside 50s. We lost our structure and gameplan because of their pressure.

2nd half was premiership football. We played on our terms and completely dominated the 2nd best team in the comp in my eyes.

I’ve been loathe to say it but my lid is now completely prised off. I see loads of improvement left in us and if we execute our gameplan nobody is beating us!

Tell me I’m dreaming!

HELL YEAH!

We switched on the afterburners and got the job done against serious opposition.

And the best thing is (I think) that there were a handful of players who never got in the game.

We are capable of so much more. IT'S SCARY.

So, have we beaten anyone yet?

Still haven't beaten anyone above us.

One guy that will benefit from more games. Think he will make it.

No thinking needed, like the Dees, and his housemate JJ, he’s the real deal.

Whatever ultimately happens this year, I really hope the club is documenting this season…its been so special thus far and hopefully will continue to be.

Been a long time since ‘Hotter than Hell’!

Shame that ‘Making Their Mark’ was last year and not this year - probably enough content for Season 2 but focused on other clubs?

And this time stats are the truth......58% game time, 19 disposals, 4 marks, 5 tackles, 1 very crunch goal. That’s a lot better than ‘fairly quiet’.

Love seeing the boys go over to the crowd to enjoy it with them. I know that often happens, but seeing that small but loud as f cluster going nuts was just awesome.

So proud of this footy club right now. ❤️?

Great pat on the back comment to the sydeny crowd N.

Next week will be a Dees crowd for sure at the SCG

Just reading the game day thread. Wow some posters should have a read of the pre half time posts. Anyone would have thought we were losing by 10 goals. I understand different views but some of the bile towards Melksham; Hunt, Bullen, Spargo etc is gutter sniping. I can only conclude these posters are fickle or infiltrated Pies supporters taking the [censored]. To play so poorly and only be 20 points down was a positive. This team has gears and is never out of it. Glad I invested in guaranteed granny tickets.

The game day thread is a bizarre world. It should come with a health warning.

That’s easy, it’s the 5th Dimension because we’re up up and away (only people who are 100 years old like myself, will get that).

It's interesting to see the different way teams line up against us. Brisbane went for even numbers in the stoppage to prevent our loose defender. That worked well for them in the first half because they were winning the clearances. In the second half we just rolled over them in the middle with Max and the loose man in defence didn't matter anymore. The clearances we won, in general, were of a much higher quality that theirs.

There are two ways we can beat teams: a) with a loose man intercepting whilst Max and our mids make the clearance hard, or b) with even numbers across the field allowing the best ruck and powerful midfielders to take the ball out the front of the stoppages.

It's the differential of quality of stoppages between those we win and those our opponents win which makes us so hard to beat. With even numbers this is even greater, and outnumbered we are still competitive plus we also dominate behind the ball. It's a great 1-2 punch.

Great post. This is certainly correct in the stoppages but we need to do much better in the centre clearances. When we get territory from centre bounce we either get a score and/or it gives us the chance to set up our defensive grid.

I think our mids got first hands on the ball in the centre bounce a lot last night after the ruck contest but then our mids got hustled out of the clearance.

I love the tactic of Max grabbing the ball because it is almost fail proof.

Otherwise I think we would be better off generally with Max hitting forwards in the centre bounce and getting the surge game going.

On another point, our defensive setups at D50 boundary throw ins was a bit wanting and they got goals from sharking our hits twice. Jackson also needs to think about how he attacks these contests, as his lack of strength leaves him open to his opposite number taking the ball.

Letting all this just sink in.  In 30 plus years as a member I cannot remember a time where an MFC team has shown such belief in their ability to overcome any side.  The significance of this cannot be underestimated.  It’s the halfway mark of the season and a heap of work to do, however barring injuries and fatigue we are in  the best position in decades to have the double chance in September.

just hope That this Covid will not force teams out of Melbourne at the pointy end of  the season.

Yep, truly a dumping ground for raw and often poisonous mania - mostly anger, but equal amounts frustration, disappointment, blame-laying and bewilderment, with the occasional drop of hope and calm. Serves a purpose I guess, but wowee, it’s revealing of the human (dare I say Dees supporter) condition.

We were beaten in the first half by a very good team who we will likely meet when the whips are cracking. However these demons have a resilience and determination of a rare team that hates to lose rather than loves to win. Some of the best hard nose attacking footy you will see in the second  half typified by the TMac snap in the last and the chain of running handballs that led to it. We are giving ourselves every chance at the pointy end. More importantly we have a list balanced with mature quality, elites coming into their prime and exciting youth across every line giving ourselves every chance over the next 3-5 years. Well played number 5, number 11 and number 9.

Unbeknown to me I must have died and gone to heaven. Here I am on a Saturday morning with the Dees having  won a Friday night game and sit on top of the ladder at 11 - 1 and I can smile at every other club fan’s  ( not that they can see me through the mask ) problems and their worry about winning this weekend.
If by chance I am wrong please please no one wake me.

Probably been mentioned already in this thread.  But, I just love to see the ball in Charlie's hands.  Just KNOW it's gonna end up in a team-mate's hands!  He is just SO reliable!  Great footy smarts!  (And in spite of being a midget, he's as tough as nails!)

I thought we were done in the first half. So glad we didn’t just fall in a hole and give up. Well deserved win again one of the giants in the league atm. Had to get up early to watch the replay as I was a bit drunk last night. Really enjoyed the game.
Petracca back to his best, TMac still on his amazing return to form, Kozzie tried hard and Oliver was great, even if a teeny bit subdued from recent form.

Great game demons, keep it up.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
