Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

McQueen’s Demon Quarantine, I like it! 15,000 slabs should do the job to celebrate or commiserate

once you can guarantee an en suite and fresh linen I’ll be there

Liverpool won the premiership for the first time in 30 years in front of no fans. It sucked that no one could be there to enjoy it and the fans (rightly or wrongly) celebrated outside the ground as it happened. But I still enjoyed it and got great pleasure out of that moment of them breaking the drought.

15,000 cartons of beer would build a nice little grandstand for all your new friends who could drink their way down from the top to the bottom.  Win or lose, there would be lots of tiers.

Good.

To be honest I could handle the game being interstate *if* I can be somewhere watching it with other supporters. The thought of being locked in my home watching it and not having anyone to celebrate with is actually my biggest fear. Not being able to go is one thing. Doing it in lockdown is probably the worst possible scenario.

I’d have no issue if we had to play Port in Adelaide in a grand final despite us being the higher ranked side.

It’s absolutely no different to when Collingwood hosted West Coast in 2018, Richmond hosted Adelaide in the 2017 grand final, Dogs playing in their home state against Sydney in 2016, Hawthorn hosting West Coast in 2015, Hawthorn hosting Sydney in 2014 or even the minor premiers West Coast against Hawthorn in 1991.

I’m quite comfortable in the boys putting in a gallant prelim performance (as opposed to 2018) and then going one step further next year at the home of footy.

It's one thing to say you'll be disappointed with not being able to be at the GF this year if we make it.

Disappointed is an understatement for the majority of us who, like you, have followed this club for decades on end, going to game after game, belting after belting, hoping one day for us to become relevant.

But it's another thing to say this, which despite your later protestations, is the equivalent of saying you'd prefer us not make the GF this year so you can go next year.

It should be blindingly obvious to any Melbourne supporter that this might be our one and only shot. The comparison isn't interstate GF in 2021 vs home GF in 2022, it's interstate GF in 2021 vs no GF ever in your lifetime.

As I mentioned in a subsequent post, a prelim appearance and a gallant loss is a massive improvement from the 2018 prelim disaster and the sign of a club on the right track to contending for premierships, if not this year then certainly within the next 3-4 years given our list profile.

I’ll take it.

Prefer a flag, but I’ll take it for this year.

I’m supremely confident this isn’t our 1 and only shot at it.

I'm with ya on this. Nothing would be as good as being there, but the pub with all my mates who I've gone with week in, week out for decades would be a pretty special day.

Firstly, please quote where I said “I don’t want to win the flag this year”. You’re putting words in my mouth.

Secondly, I have the first dose of the AZ so not sure where you got that one from.

Thirdly, sympathies to your pal,

Fourthly,  I’ve got two seperate memberships valued at $1,600 that guarantee me GF tickets so pardon me for being a little disappointed if I’m not being able to attend.

I get your disappointment,

I take you saying “ I’m quite comfortable with a gallant prelim performance and going one step further at the G next year” that you don’t really want them to win it this year

Was it in July you were against the finals only being open to those with double vaccination but you as being u/40 weren’t eligible for Pfizer, but when advised you could get AZ, you weren’t sure based on advice from the Feds

Just to clarify, I want the Dees to win the flag just as much as anyone around here. I’ve been on this forum long enough to suggest I’m a passionate paid up Melb supporter.

If given the choice between watching the Dees live at the G or at home during lock down with nobody to celebrate the win… I’d probably choose the former if I’m being honest.

As for the vaccine argument, yes you’re correct.  I did think it was unfair to implement a no jab no entry policy when demand exceeded supply. I have  had an A-Z jab as I want to be protected ASAP, irrespective of footy.

I found the Gary Pert comment of him not worried if we played a grand final with or without crowd in in Melbourne extremely disappointing.

He cannot be serious?

Playing in a grand final at the MCG with no crowd would be the biggest kick in the guts to all long time suffering supporters who have sat through the darkest of days seeing us getting pumped by 60 points most weeks. The one year we actually look like genuine premiership favourites it simply cannot be played in an empty stadium in Melbourne.  Even Simon Goodwin on Triple M today stated he would rather finals with crowds etc.

If Melbourne doesn't work then Perth simply has to become a genuine option.

That comment was from Caro Wilson, who is the best in the business, so we have every reason to believe that Pert did say it.

Having said that, Pert may have been referring to just the week 1 or 2 finals. I’m sure if it was the GF, his opinion would probably change.

With approx 6 weeks to go to the GF surely we "could" be well out of lockdown by then and back to say 50% crowds?  I realise things need to be arranged well before then but how long do they need prior to the GF?

Whether we are in the big dance or not, even if things aren't perfect (Covid / lockdown wise) and it needs to be planned / organised ASAP for logistics / commercial/ catering / accommodation purposes plus the bubble.  Surely we can have a crowd of fully vaccinated (members first then the general public) attend the big one including security / catering staff and officials etc?  If not, why not?

Cant actually believe supporters are actually saying I’d rather wait for the Dees to win a flag next year at the G, so I can be there. Talk about self centred.

Similar things were said last year, when we were travelling well. FCS there are no guarantees with this pandemic.

If we can win one this year I’m taking it, whether it be at the G, Gabba, AO or Optus. But I want to see the Dees win it in front of the biggest crowd possible and I’m sure the players would want to win it in front of a full house given the option

As that was part of your response to a post by me, I would like to say I'm definitely not one of those .  There are several posts earlier in this thread where I said I was willing to go into quarantine in another state, travel to SA for a few weeks prior to entering WA.

Its been 20 years since we made a GF.  Who knows if we will even play in one next year or the year after.  It could be another 20 years before we play in one.  And, I have vivid memories of 2018 prelim then crashing in 2019.  I don't expect a crash to happen again but I'm not relying on future years for a GF appearance

I will do almost anything to get to a Demon 2021 GF regardless of where it is.

The issue for me was trying to get the vax

I'm not over 70 don't have any major health issues

started trying to get  a shot in late Feb because I know vaccines assist in protection of the masses

Had to wait till June to get it! Not getting vaccinated was in my opinion not always the individuals' fault

The roll out programe was a farce Thankfully they seem to have their act together now

Have to agree. I too have a GFG, have for years, back to when it was a running joke in the dim, dark past.

We've waited so long, a GF win in Perth would be great. They could play in Alice and I'd still be over the moon.

Beggars belief the thought of being satisfied with losing a prelim because we can't attend the big dance. Should start up a membership category 'Melbourne-lite' for that cohort!

But got to get there first

Go Dees!

If the GF can’t be played in Melbourne without crowds then Optus in Perth would be great. Aside from a selfish POV, it is a great stadium worthy of a GF. Has great atmosphere, state of the art facilities and the playing surface is identical to the MCG. I would only consider attending if we are playing in it.

agree it's a fantastic venue

not quite mcg size though - wing to wing is narrower

  • Field of play dimensions will be 165m along the east-west axis and 130m on the north-south axis. This is slightly shorter than Domain Stadium (Subiaco Oval) but aligned with the MCG, which is 160m x 141m.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
