Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Astounded (though not really ...) by the calls for Melksham to be dropped. He was our most dangerous forward by far against the Hawks -  more goals and more score involvements than ANB and Spargo combined.

If you have to drop one of the small/mid forwards for Fritsch, then ANB would be first to go I would have thought.

I feel I've been as hard on Melksham as any in the past, but he was one that lifted big time in the second half and got back to being that dangerous connector. He kicked 3 goals and he also had 3 tackles which put him in the same level in that department as Viney and Kozzie. I don't see him being dropped, particularly as we know the club (and Goody) rate him highly.

The club might choose to take things slower with Fritta as we have options available in the forward line, whereas if May is able to push his claim for selection, they will get him in the play against his GC mate.

If May is able to go I see it playing out like this:
May for Petty
B Brown for M Brown
Weid for Jordon

Every one of those players would feel unlucky. Petty was poor in the first half but a different player in the second (settled nerves perhaps). Brown didn't do a hell of a lot most of the game but bobbed up at the end to kick important goals, took his chances when they came. Jordon wasn't our worst player but structurally and experience-wise he's the logical option to allow us to get Weid into the team. You can't ignore 7 goals, and getting him in when his confidence up is the right thing to do for a developing forward.

People calling for May to replace Petty? May received a very nasty knock to the eye against Geelong, I’d be surprised to see him back so soon after. Or has his recovery been so good?

Defensive pressure in our f50 is the key to us scoring. Tmac said this straight after the game.

We played 15 mins of blistering footy yesterday. We'll need to play four qtrs against the tigers.

Melksham doesn't tackle or run hard both ways. He has great skills but not the effort and intensity we need to be part of a top four team.

He got a great big hug from the coach after the game. He's in.

I reckon Jordan could do with a rest. Sparrow in.

May in for Petty

Weid in for Mitch Brown (maybe. Still not sold on the Weid being a top forward. Benny Brown needs some more fitness from watching the Casey game)

I wouldn't risk Fritta. He needs those hands to clunk marks and tackle.

Those questioning Tmacs value are a bit mad. He's getting back to his best. Clunks marks and kicks straight

Hear you barking big dog

agree with all that

It's all about the swelling and concussion.

If the swelling is down enough and he passes the concussion protocols then he rightly should be selected.

Been done before, In my opinion  Neitz was gifted his last 20,  would not have been picked in any other side if he was not captain.

Jones deserves his time in the sun , He was in the only reason  many went to the football when we were absolutely [censored] .

Junior McDonald deserved far better, what we as a club did to that Captain.    Run by too many accountants.

Anyone else thinking that ANB's position could be in jeopardy.  He had a very good game in round 2 vs Saints but has been relatively poor in the other games.

If this wasn't such a critical game and if we didn't have so many inexperienced players in the 22 I could see he being dropped.

I don't see it, not sure why my view differs from so many on this forum

I think ANB is on the cusp of becoming a damaging player for us

If Spargo hadn't improved some this year then this wouldn't even be a topic of conversation. That said, ANB still leads in Contested Possessions, Meters Gained, I50s, Pressure Acts, Takles.

For me, he seems to push further up the ground and make more contests than Spargo or Melksham, and has better endurance to do more of it.

We've gifted games in the past to top draft picks base on nothing but how high we took them. Jones may not be earning his spot on form from last week, but he's earned it on the blood, sweat, and tears he's put in for the jumper.

I'm backing him in for a good one this week.

Tom Mcdonald isn't going to be apart of our future mate. Like I said, he has been playing well so credit to him. I don't read too much into stats. He had 22 touches but a lot of them were in the backline. So I'd prefer to have Ben Brown who is a bigger target inside 50m to straighten us up. Weideman also comes in after kicking 7.

If he keeps playing the way he is, he will absolutely be part of our future. He had a great game on the weekend and I’d be totally shocked and disappointed if he’s dropped this weekend.

I’m incredibly proud of Tommy and the way he’s got his body right and fought back from a tough year or two, and going up for trade. He deserves some success. Bloody impressive  turnaround so far!

Tom did play well in terms of marks, some spoils and intercepts. His disposal, by hand and foot, still reeks of signalling of his intention when on the move - he should become more 'cagey' in his decision-making, less predictable in his disposals.

Tommy was simply outstanding v Hawks and has played well 4/5 games. The club must and will reward this. He is a certainty for this weekend and should he maintain his first 5 rounds form he will remain in the team till season end.  If he starts playing like 2020 he will be dropped.

No matter how big the name, the romance and fantasies...... You can’t drop Tommy on form.

Just watched the Nate Jones press conference at the G for his 300th.

The whole club playing list were there in support. It's the little things we're absolutely smashing at the moment. Being there for each other. F'ing awesome.

Would love to be a fly on the wall during the selection meeting this week.

First name confirmed will be Jones, and deservedly so. Has been great for the club in difficult times and I think the role he has played in mentoring a number of young players has been tremendous. His influence on this list will be felt for many seasons.

May in for Petty if he is 100%. don't risk him and leave Petty in place if there is any doubt.

I don't think Fritsch will be ready for this week.

Wiedeman in for M Brown and B Brown to have another run at Casey to get him in trim to face the Roos.

The only other change that I can see might happen is that we may rest Jordon if it is required. Swap Sparrow in and have Jordon as Sub.

The other fella in the photo, Tomlinson, gets Goodwin's shoulder. A few times in the match, Tomlinson was evidently not quite at the ball as a defender and yet, a little out there, radially, he was poised to break with the ball, well.

It is time that Tomlinson was returned to the wing to effect his movement both ways, his spatial awareness and drive, and his improved accuracy in disposal. What he has learned/displayed in the backline will be an enormous boost for his wing role and play in support of the team.

Gus, put there 'out of position' is similarly strugling at times - Gus is an outside midfielder with talent for that role supporting Tracc and Oliver and Gawn through that midfield array. Let's see Tomlinson back on the wing (a position in which I believe he will display vast improvements) and Gus back to the midfield.

There is 100% no way we are moving Tomlinson back up to the wing after the way our back half has started this year.

Reliability and predictability are critical to why we've conceded the fewest scoring shots of any side so far this year. Tomlinson's playing good football as a defender and he stays there now.

Brayshaw's doing well on the wing. He's not at Langdon's level but he's not being asked to be, either. He's defending well and pushing back into defence to help out. He's playing a role, and playing it well.

This is a good question and has been well answered by Binman. Jackson stays because he is a nightmare matchup, a point of difference between us and every other team, and because he allows Max to go forward and back. Think of him as a very tall and springy mid that no opposition can cover.

That comment has way more to do with his potential than actual output so far. Opposition coaching groups wouldn’t be putting a heap of time into matching him up at the moment.

Think this will be correct for the changes. I worry we’ll wind up too tall and lacking speed against the Tigers, who are a quick running pressure side.

I’d be thinking it’s a very similar pace side in/out.. Petty and Brown don’t come across as speedsters. Jordan?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
