Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Story today online that Neil Balme could be leaving Richmond, a few clubs interested etc. Haven't watched or read full story but damn we need him. Combine with a Clarkson appointment, the mouth would froth.

69yo next year...certainly brings calm and wisdom to an organisation.

If he was up for it, would love him on board.

If he wasn't looking for a full-time job next year he would also be the right person to carry out an independent review of our club.

Couldn't think of anyone more qualified and we should jump at the opportunity.

Would be great to have Balme back, but would he want to come back to us after 96/97 ?? I know none of those administrators and board still remain but ....

he was a great coach but like the reverend was hampered by off field rubbish going on at the club in the 90s early 00s and key injuries

interestingly Clarko was coached by Balme at the dees

throw in a Jesse hogan return for a lazy 4th rounder and this would be romanticising of the mills and boon kind !

We should have won a flag under his leadership last time - he had an amazing list. Club was a disgrace.

Right now we have another very good list. Club is functioning very well under Glen Barltett.

We have to at least make the phone call. I'd have him back in a heartbeat, bit I reckon he no longer has the motivation for head coaching role.

Will not come near the club with Pert involved.

Pert sacked him from Collingwood and Balme despises him.

Anything negative you read about Pert, written by Caro has been fed directly to her by Balme.

Not sure that is entirely right.

Eddie brought in Gubby Allen to take Balme's job so he was demoted/moved sideways.  Pert was CEO at the time.  Balme was offered the Director of Coaching role at collingwood.

At some stage Richmond offered Balme the GM Football position which he accepted.

Pert himself lost his CEO job 6 months later.

I have no idea the relationship between the Pert and Balme today but it is hard to know how much of the Allen/Balme thing was Eddie's doing and whether Pert had a role.

He doesn't seem to hang around at clubs for a long time

Yeah, but look what he does when he’s there! He must have overseen 7 (?) Premierships at Geelong, Collingwood and Richmond. A friend of mine who has worked with him at 2 of those clubs reckons he is a fantastic guy to work with and for.

Do you mean a review of the Football Department, for which he would seem very well qualified, or the whole club (ie, including org structure, finances, commercial, membership, etc)? I'm not sure he's got the skills for the latter. I would prefer any independent review (and there should be one every year), look at the club holistically, in which case I doubt Balme is the right person for the job. He could, of course, undertake the Football Department piece of a bigger whole under the overall control (or supervision) of whoever undertakes the larger review.

Out of interest. Is this heresay or first hand testimony.

Balme and Goody are actually a good match with similar philosophies. Would be a great get.

And another platform to continue my get Nathan Bassett campaign. I'm staggered it hasn't happened yet to be honest.

With Balme: a red & blue reunion. As far as I can gauge he and Goody are on good terms. Helped get him to the Dons.

No one really talks about it but the MFC trading out Bassett isn't far shy of Thompson. 200+ game All Australian.

Since being at the Power he has coached both the defensive and forward lines with obvious results.

Plus multiple Redlegs' premierships. The only question I have is: why isn't he touted for a senior role more often?

Balme never saw a premiership at Collingwood in either of his stints.

It's one of the great furphys in football.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
