Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Weideman's Future?

I disagree.  I'd say they've lost a bit of patience with him, not faith.  They clearly want to see certain things from him before coming back into the side, and that includes kicking 5 in a scratch match against the worst Carlton has to offer.

Don't get the collective panic around Weideman not playing this week. Obviously hadnt shown enough to get picked over Jackson last week, fair enough. Didn't get picked this weekend because of the wet conditions, fair enough. Are we really that desperate that we think this bloke will save our forward line worries having kicked a handful of goals in a game of 14 a side park footy in a magoos team that won by more than 10 goals. I recall people on here were calling for his head after missing that set shot against the Crows not too long ago. Unfortunately hasnt had the opportunity to prove it this year given the circumstances but dont think it warrants any reason to call for him to be traded...

You do realize that your not suppose to make sense.

Yep. Weid did well last week but he has to keep doing it, if he wants to be the number one target.
The offer is waiting for him, because TMac is not a number one target up forward

Then why is T mac being gifted games??

We recruited Brown for the same position and after one game where he was not the worst in the side he is dropped for a kid who had not played A game since under 18’s in August. My did we recruit Brown?
At the moment our FD leaves me in wonder land.

Isn't this about the 3rd 'Concern' thread on the Weid in like 5 seasons?

Never really found his mojo or consistency up forward other than a bit of a purple patch in 2018 finals when the whole team finished the season on a roll.  But he did show something.

My concerns are... bit of a downhill skier that i haven't  seen stand up all that often when things aren't going so well?

Would still like to see him given a fair shake at it this season though before moving him on.  Might just be about to hit the maturity side that big men often take extra time to find.  Would want to make a big impact and hopefully has become  more mobile / ground worthy.  Bit of a mark and kick player that hasn't really added many other strings to his bow until now (consistently i mean...there's been glimpses & patches on the ground but mostly when the team's up and about).  Mind you if he can mark and kick straight consistently inside 50 from here then that would be a massive bonus up forward given recent returns on this side.

Lucifer knows he isn't alone in the KF conundrum that has seen a gaping hole in this area for us post 2018 when we had T-Mac in form out of the square and a very mobile marking CHF in the Hulk, roaming high, often intercepting the rebounds of the defence and very handy at ground level.  ALmost like an extra mid but also a VG mid - forward in that season.

Having lost Hulk and with T-Mac horribly out of form (niggles?) we've only seen brief cameos from the likes of Petty.  Petty has shown he can be a mobile marking goal kicking forward but alas...injury tends to lead to inconsistency and/or poor form in many cases.  Or in Petty's case...plenty of no shows.  Not saying Petty is the answer either but he was starting to show a bit of promise as a potential 2nd/3rd stringer and looking quite dangerous on occasions.

The FD's mission in 2020, should they choose to accept it, is to sort the mess out that is our KF horribilis in readiness to take things to another level (hopefully finals or better) in 2021, assuming we manage to get back to some sort of normality off and on the field Post ISO.

Lets hope the Weid can make a much needed impact during this season and get some value out of all the inside 50s that should be seeing us crunch most opponents but instead most of them are going to pot.  Must be a huge deflator for all those further up the field.  Conversely, seeing that effective forward on the move, marking and converting can be a massive incentive to get the ball to the right spots more often.

Hopefully he is given a fair stab at it as the season progresses (assuming he's earned it of course). Good luck Weids

Ok why did we recruit Brown it seems he is out of favour after one game?

Look across the game and big forwards are not kicking the bags they used to.  Seems like the Pies model of one big plus lots of mediums seems to be effective with the way the game is being played.  So tough for the kid Weid - hopefully he knows what needs to be shown to get back into the firsts.  TMAC should be feeling under pressure to perform, and Brown was a ‘nice to have’ as insurance for both.

I think the gameplan may have changed a bit after the recruiting, with the smaller and speedier demons emerging in response to the COVID stuff.  Add wet weather and he has no chance.  Jackson is supposedly a freak, I look forward to seeing that.  Many players dont make it.  Lets see if Weid can prove his worth and make it back in.

I've spoken to Weid, he said his hips were right and was wanted to play. The coaching group have lost faith in him.

The coaching group should play him in his natural tall forward position. Coincidentally it's also our biggest weakness at present, yet they keep throwing him into the ruck and not giving him a proper chance up forward. They're playing Jackson ahead of him. Jackson might well surpass him in years to come, but at present Weid is bigger, stronger, quicker, better hands, better tackler, better kick, better scorer. There's simply no reason to play Jackson ahead of him, and it reeks of favouritism and poor culture. It's been over a decade and we still haven't learned not to gift games to kids who haven't earned them.

The club have ruined Weid's development. For his own sake, I hope he requests a trade and flourishes elsewhere.

Exactly my thoughts as well.

Weid should be getting games over T-Mac, hands down.
T-Mac should not be given games on his form from 2018, that's long gone now.

While i dont disagree with much above it may just be the fact they went with Jackson last week over Weed ,for what reason, and to change it after 1 game doesn't send the right message to the playing group. Jackson didnt do much wrong, or right but give the kids more than 1 game in 1 game out. Lets see what they have got. No one has been privy to the scratch match form over the last month and all we are really going on is Weeds 5 goals against the northern Blues. How did Rivers earn his game with no matches to show us what he can do. Maybe Jackson showed just as much in the scratch games which got him a game over weed.  Im a fan of weeds and his time will come.

Dropped after one Game. Whats the problem with dropping McDonald who hasn't done any thing for 18 months .

Like If you don't use him don't employ him

Same as Jackson. He is primarily a ruck forward. We seem to be trying to make him into a key forward and he did almost no rucking last game.

This FD has no idea.

Generally agree with you Old Dee, except I recall Brown being the second worst on the ground against West Coast, just ahead of your mate Spargo.

Certainly we need another key forward so that Fritsch can play a position he is more suited to. Probably it has to be 2 of TMac, Brown or Weid. Tom is out of form for a while now. Weid or Brown are they up to it ? I don't see a clear solution.

Weid supporter as you know people bu i think it will not hurt to have him out of this game. i think that he needs to make his presence felt, and i mean felt, after it hits the ground and slowly wind him up as per Moore with more.

Weideman is definitely not quicker and has no agility. With the amount of cameras and over analysis they do of each moment at a training session, I am more than happy to back the coaching department in on this one.

You are clearly a huge Weideman fan, I am not. However, the same question marks we have all been debating with Weideman for the last 3 years are still question marks. To blame his lack of development (I would say progression) on the club is a huge cop out.

In 2019 Weideman average 10.3 disposals and a goal a game playing an average of 84% ground time of 20 minute quarters.

Jackson played 70% ground time and had 7 disposals from 16 minute quarters.

It's a very small sample size but I'll go with the potential on this one. If Jackson has another week with this sort of output and someone is knocking the door down, switch them over but Weideman has not got the runs on the board.

I think we're over-complicating things. For mine, it's a pretty simple question - between the Weid, Jackson and Brown, who is likely to have the biggest impact at full forward/ backup ruck this weekend?

No matter which way I look at it, I cannot fathom how the answer is Jackson (not having a crack at him).

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
