Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just not working hard enough to provide options to those under pressure, therefore seeing too many turnovers.

Its also vice versa where we are not putting enough pressure on the opposition.

A lot of it comes down to work rate to create space.

Don't really think it's an 'easy' job at all. Whether you agree with him or not, he's one of the best for actually doing a stack of research into his analysis. If it was a 'very easy/high paying job' wouldn't we all be raking it in with every post on Demonland?

I agree we should have had the blowtorch a long time ago, and if we weren't such an irrelevant club we might have.

The trouble with Kingy is he's late to the party on this one.

It was obvious through preseason and into the first game that something wasn't right.

Yet Kingy was holding the line early season that there was nothing to see here, the Demons will be get it together and be there as a premiership threat.

Sometimes you just need to look at the game rather than the data.

He believed the data that we had the best list.

A good look at the list would have told you different.

I know all clubs do it to some extent but a start to better connectivity might be keeping all the players together for most of the half time and other breaks. It has always amused me that a wingman is in a different group to the backman even though the half back links with the wingman and that could be the first play at the resumption of the game. Also the groups usually just have six players sitting there at half time and yet a few minutes in someone like Fritta might be working in the back half and doesnt know what they just talked about.

I agree King is one of the better ones but surely you can see he gets the job based on being a former AFL player and then just needs to comment on tactics/stats and occasionally making an outlandish comment to make headlines.  doing some research when this is your job is not much to ask. Us fans on DL obviously dont get paid even though a reckon a few of us know just as much about footy than Kingy if not more (not including myself here)

a dream job if you ask me

Not saying I'm his biggest fan or he's a rocket surgeon, just saying it's pretty easy for us as general footy nuffies to just criticize his opinions and predictions, but he's the one putting in the research and putting his name out there to cop it. He's played 241 more games than I ever will so he's more qualified than me.

He was bullish last year. Guessing he loaded up this year and has been burnt?

They do need something talk about and this week it is us.

Bolton was sacked in June, we played Carlton in July.

Kingy was a big supporter of Melbourne last season and before the commencement of this season, it’s a shame to lose the support of an outsider. Our membership will take a huge hit next season.

He was massive on Melbourne and they have let everybody down big time.

The players look totally lost. Maybe they don't 'agree' with the game plan, maybe the message or brand is being lost as we keep losing. The message is confused and when players have the ball they just look like they want to get rid of it as quickly as possible. They run to the wrong spots. They fly for the same ball. They have zero confidence in kicking for goal. they don't run both ways.

But its all down to injuries and pre-season surgeries. Yeah sure. That explains it all.

Coaching and on field leadership are deplorable

I posted elsewhere in a thread a table of team finishes in the 8 since 2010. Only 1 top 4 team team has rebounded after missing the finals the next year. The fall is easy but there is a reason we are 15th and that is reflected in the quality or lack there off in the team. I do not have a high expectation of next year unless we address some serious deficiencies in the game plan, personnel and the way we structure up ie our goal to goal line is thin and no realistic back up.

If you can’t run - speed and endurance - and can’t reliably hit targets and don’t have big men to create a contest then you can’t create any kind of game plan that works.

It’s a big game of chess and our pieces stink right now. Go through the 22 on the weekend and you’ll find very few who are fit, strong and skilled.

Our game plan, work rate and skills (apart from goal kicking) all looked very good against the Eagles.

When the Saints got their outside running game going at their home ground, with a fresh coach who’s freed their minds we found it hard to go with them and from there everything falls apart. Panic sets in with the skills, indecision at the contest, self preservation at the contest.

Watch the first 10 minutes against the Saints where we were full of confidence and trusting the plan and we looked very good. As soon as fatigue and doubt crept in the side dropped away.

Said it back when we lost first few games.

Theres a dark cloud over the team. Its tangible and you can see it in the interviews. No eye contact. Heads down etc.

Goodwin is lost at sea and has no idea how to get back to harbour now that his one and only plan has failed.

We deserve every bit of heat we get.

Simply not good enough.

Goodwin will not be sacked FFs is it that hard to understand some reading into King's comments and making their own assumptions based on their own wishes.

Goodwin will know he's under pressure but his job is safe and the pre season and season 2020 is when he's got to perform or he will be out

The things you speak of must be addressed Older, this is exactly why we need an independent review, so absolutely nothing is left unscathed.

I don’t Trust The Board or The President to make the right calls this time.

We wait and see...

Lots of finger pointing, negative speculation and outright nastiness toward our team from supposed supporters on here...

Best example is the old “they’re not working hard enough...” dribble... how the fork would supporters who use this line know? So basically you’re accusing our team and coach of slacking off or giving up, which is [censored] thing to say about our team and coaches.

Its obvious to all that it’s not working at the moment, but to lob this kind of drivel at our team when they’re hurting like this makes me ashamed to be a fellow supporter.

I believe they’re working there asses off and will continue to, and we, their supporters should be supporting them rather than baying like a bunch of angry old losers for blood, blame and insensitive [censored] talk.

You could see it shift in the first Q couldn't you 'Dee'.

They started to wind up their outside game and at first they were missing targets but when that changed we were done.

Have you listened to what Max Gawn said after the game?

Nathan Jones talked about players splitting into groups..the reason i will never like 2 Captains

Nathan has seen it before, so he obviously is not the man to pull the team together.

The players may want to work their asses off, but they are not fit enough to do it. We play well in 5 minute bursts and then break down...that has been happening all year.

Your on the right track a little Paul but IMO the FD may be trying to hard to find a solution at the minute

With regard to the players and many throughout the history of the game are guilty of this, you think you're working hard enough and giving it everything until you actually realise later you had another level you could get to.

Happened to Ablett, Swan, Priddis and Tom Mitchell, some players never get that moment

Our problems have been evident since 2017. Plenty of possession, plenty of forward entries, rock all reward. Back then it was the better defences who shut us down; now that everyone has had a look at us, all the sides are shutting us down. It's easy. Zone up across our back-to-forward running lanes and because we get too many players behind the ball, we have too few players to take the ball from half back to half forward. The problem is compounded by having appalling disposal, and forwards who cannot find space.

The wonder of the season is the number of times we have played dreadful footy, but still stayed close. It's for that reason I give Goodwin a year's grace. If we can somehow find some polish, fitness, cohesion, and above all, confidence, next year, we'll have a good year.

Yep. Unless Alister Clarkson expresses interested in joining the club as senior coach Goodwin will be our senior coach in 2020. but if we don't see some fairly significant improvement i don't imagine the club waiting to long to make a change.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
