Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No way I would like to see Max as the captain or even co-captain.  He’s under enough pressure to perform as it is, and the last thing he needs is the added burden of the captaincy.  Just let him do his thing and provide inspiration through his onfield performances.

After last year I’d have thought it would have to be T-Mac, but his half hearted efforts this year have quashed any thoughts of that... I guess May would have to be considered and even Lever, although he’s one I’d like to see given a bit more time to mature.

Just a thought but doesn't the co captains issue just double the angst

One or none is my theory.

It's just an armband.... what's the sanctity of dropping the captain other than it is a admission by the coaching staff that they are not omnipotent.

Time to stop being precious about such things.

Whenever I head down to training, Max is always the most vocal of all our leaders. He is the one driving the players, encouraging them and telling them where to improve. It's so obvious he should be Captain.

i think there Will be a change at the end of this season.?

I cannot see Viney becoming permanent Captain the way he is playing,  atmo.    He doesn't look like he can play at all.

I think Gawn is one on the horizon for leadership,  and also Harmes...  who sort of reminds me of a young Barassi... in the manner he has come thru the ranks...   struggled,  until he built his engine,  and is now such a gutsy leader in our team.

One of our Best.

Though he's not half hearted when he argues with the umpires. Looks more interested in proving to the umpire that he's correct, than getting on with it.

Dazzle is right on the money. Jones retires at seasons end ( after a great career) and club moves to appoint new blood.

Viney is NOT a captains toenail. Period!

For next year

GAWN CAPT

MAY ( Thats right MAY!) VC

OLIVER DVC

LEADERSHIP GROUP  LEVER, MELKS NEV

Another sensible and smart left field post.

Could just be the solution.

If Gawn’s performances aren’t enough to inspire the team right now I’m not sure what will. Tireless and Herculean performances each and every week. Not sure how to feel about Max being captain next season. The man leads already and some don’t follow.

Just incredible numbers he’s putting up.

Id like to know if viney is playing with the foot injury still. If he is, we are failing jack and learnt nothing from the past 8 years of ruining careers. If he can rest and return to full fitness he was showing he was next in line after jones, i think he was probably given co captaincy a year earlier than most thought as jones was still in our top 3 but couldnt question that jack deserved it. If he is going to be hampered long term, i would hope jack would step aside to focus on his game without the added pressure of playing because hes captain.

Hmmn.  It's a tough one isn't it.  I don't know if jack is injured or if his foot is just weakened,  or what the story is,  but its painful to see.   He's well below his unhindered best form.

I was screaming from the bleaches to not keep him playing with the plantar fascia...  and then again after he came back way too soon after,  as we did with Maxy...   and TMc as well,

Our 3 most important players all cut down, with hasty decisions.

Interesting timing.

I don't agree with much from Lloyd, but he is also questioning whether Jones and Viney stay on as captains for the reasons stated above (age, fitness etc). Judd seems to think Viney should take an extended break.

Lloyd also wonders whether an investigation should be called into our performance in 2019 due to pretty much everyone going backwards (so, not just injuries - actually looking at the guys who have played this year and asking why they have declined). I'm in favour of a formal enquiry into the first half of this year. There's a lot of footy to be played, but that just means that we have time to actually correct things rather than just do much of the same, and then be shocked when we're still bottom 4 (if not dead last) at the end of the year.

Just a related question, does it impact us that we have no forwards in the leadership group? For a part of the ground we are having so much trouble with, we have no recognized leader as such (at least officially). TMac was stripped of his leadership title so potentially would be hesitant to try and fill that void given his peers didn't recognize him enough to be in the group, (speculation only of course).

Who is meant to be the director of traffic in forward 50?

Lever is the most natural leader IMO. And has shown great fortitude to comeback in such a fashion after that injury.

If he's burning it up over pre-season I would seriously consider him for C or VC.

I am with you on this one. I dont rate Viney as a captain.. at all, never have. For me the obvious choice is Lever and Gawn.

Both just absolutely typify what you want in a leader in front of camera as they both speak extremely well and commend respect on field. Viney is the complete opposite in that he cant even string a sentence together and just mumbles his way through. He is cringe to listen too. Plus his on field performance this year has been simply poor. When the cameras went to him at the start of the 2nd qtr he was sitting on the bench with an extreme sour look on his face.. his body language wasn't great at all.

I saw that. Head in the palm of his hands with a big scowl on his face. Wasn’t a good look. I love what Jack V. brings to the table but a leader and a communicator he ain’t. Lever speaks very well I agree. And is very courageous. That flying mark going back with the flight in the first was seriously brave coming from a bloke returning from an ACL.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
