Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Ah no it wouldn"t and you don't just "Remove" the Meniscus you actually repair it generally putting in some stitches , which take time to fuse the fibres together. You would not have seen him before next season, even if a Grand Final was at stake!!

I know about meniscus injury I have had one. I think you missed my point. I was suggesting that if the injury was only minor you might attempt to get him back but minor or not these is no reason to as we wont go beyond the end of August.

I can see us finishing second last this year; with the rate of injury that we’re having at the moment, we’ll be lucky to have 22 players by round 23!

Carltank should be able to beat GC17 in coming weeks, and then they’ll be one fluke win behind us, which would put us equal on points but (probably) behind them on percentage

2019...what a year.......

Yep reckon we will finish second last behind Carltank unfortunately. GC also asking for a R1 priority pick giving them the top 2 picks in the draft too. The top 2 supposedly the standouts, then daylight. Shouldn't happen but the AFL are corrupt.

Relieved Tmac didn't do an ACL.

The second pick if given will come at the end of round 1... the other teams have made it clear they won't allow the multiple dips at the pointy end

Yup. Do we know the recovery time for TMac? Obviously no more matches this year, but how will his pre-season be impacted?

Meniscal tear should nowadays ordinarily be a few Meeks to a month but MFCSS means it could be anything.

Regardless he should be handled with kid gloves and why should any slight risk be taken in this total disaster of a season?

The time off should enable him to fully recover from whatever held him back until the past few weeks.

And I agree some goal kicking set shot routines should be part of his later rehab.

Should give Preuss an opportunity to work with Max as an alternating forward.

Or maybe as some have suggested try Oscar as a forward?

Ah the old McDonald for McDonald switcheroo. It's not the worst thing I've heard, and the way things are going with injuries we might not have much choice but to bring O back.

I'm not a fan of his, but you never know, this might be the second McDonald transformation. At the very least his failed attempts up forward won't cost us any goals. At least directly anyway.

We've got a season to play, pump it full of the good stuff and get him back out there. Two weeks off max.

If the AFL decides to grant GC's request, the other teams' opinion counts for SFA.

they won't grant it because of the view of the other teams... they went through this multiple times over the last few years and the AFL's position on where any priority pick is located is now clear and its not at number 1 or 2.

Well im wondering what happens when we have less than 22 fit players? Can we get a special dispensation from the AFL not to play anymore games this year and go to Bali?

......are we allowed top up players, or is that just an Essendon thing?

Tim Smith not on the injured list but reported as running with the rehab group at training yesterday.

Lever and Jetta on the injured list and noted as available but they both played at VFL level last week so why are they even listed.

Such wonderful communication...

Stretch's foot injury is worrying. Combined with our other four perennially injured players I cannot see how he can be retained if there is any doubt whatsoever over his recovery. (It's not the first time with a foot injury.).

I wonder if ever any club has actually managed to go an entire season with an average of 1/3rd of their list injured?

Could be in record-breaking territory.

Remembering that we had already passed the average total missed games for a season before the halfway point.

And factor in also that a significant number were also under-prepared at the beginning of the season due to late starts to pre-season. I wonder how many players had essentially a full pre-season and a year uninterrupted by injury? It wouldn't be too many.

And it's not just to t ial numbers of injured players that is so remarkable. It is how many of our nominal best 22 we have out.

For much of the season in any given game we have had close to half of our best 22 out. Even with jetts and lever back this  week we still have a third out (melk, vdb, tmac, Joel Smith, kk, jeffy, hore are best 22 and stretch is on the bubble).

I have said numerous times but it bears repeating. No club has had a run of best 22 players out with injury. Not even close. Nor did any club have anywhere near the number of post season surgeries. Not even close.

These two issues are facts. Critics of our game plan and coaching might prove to be correct but it is simply not possible to make an accurate assessment of either with what has happened to us. Supposition yes. Definitive no.

Look at how pies have gone when they lose their best  forward.  One player our and suddenly they can't convert inside 50.

Melksham getting close to missing the rest of the season.

I wonder how many clubs have lost 4 players for an entire season, before it even started and then several others who end up missing most of the season after playing a game or two?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
