We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

People are just being realistic, as he will likely request  a trade.

Why would he hang around to play at Casey all of 2021?

For the same reason he joined us in the first place?

Well then why did he sign with us in the first place?

We don't know.   But if he wants to stay we'd be mad to trade him for anything other than an ace player  - which is very unlikely to be offered.   So I reckon the real question is:  if he wants to go, how hard do we go to make him want to stay?

Hard. By appealing to the points that Moonshadow raised. Points that surely formed part of our initial pitch. People seem to have forgotten the knee-scare Max had during the pre-season. That fright was tempered somewhat by having Preuss around, who subsequently went down. Weid back on ruck duties now and our season would be finished.

I like the idea ... but I have a feeling that having one of Preuss or Gawn forward the whole game will have a detrimental impact on our forward pressure.  Obviously TMac does not have great speed or agility but I feel he would do better than either of the ruckman at finding his man / running to the right spot in the zone etc.

Potentially also messes with Weid's role because he's currently playing out of the goal square most of the match -  can't imagine max or preuss playing CHF

I'd reckon that these negatives are real but could be overcome with some strategic, rotated bursts onfield. Weed could stay where Weed plays best - and that is in the goalsquare - and a possy/come utility role for both Max and Preuss in-between rucking duties and second efforts would be rather unique to the League and certainly, extremely difficult for clubs without to man-up against, let alone nullify. Even, dare I suggest it, both could become specialist targets (ie: one for the shallow backline spots (kick-ins, clearance passes) and the other for the forwardline (Preuss - he can kick 'em at range, in close and is not terribly likely to be out-marked, out-bodied, and provides great screens and second efforts for the little fellas hungry for the ground ball). It would be a gutsy play but may very well work to enormous advantage such as the young height and mobility of the Whoreforms and the Catty Puts in recent years.

Everyone knows the second we trade him Max will get injured so...don’t do it

Braydon is nearly 4 years younger than Max .  Huge long term insurance policy and he will get his chances.

As you say - DON'T DO IT

Preuss has thinned down to increase his mobility. Unfortunate that there is no VFL to test whether it has worked.

The 2018/2019 version of Preuss is old school and is very difficult to reconcile with the modern game.

Many commentators are pushing for 3 man up rule to come back to remove congestion. If this happens the days of the static ruckman are over.

Might take some pressure off Gawn. He gets targeted and sometimes his great ruck work nullified by strong Opposition onballers.

At times I feel he  is overworked and depended on too much. Now that Brayshaw Oliver and Petracca are lifting maybe he could be  more flexible?

Some of his best work is when he drifts down back and  intercepts or up forward to take a strong mark that opposition find hard to stop.(Just needs to nail some of those close in shots!) A bit more time down back and up forward wouldn't hurt methinks-though depends a lot on team balance and how the game is being played.)

I'm open to others thoughts on this. Is having two big men on at the same too much? Could they be used through interchange as well?

I think Max playing ruck/forward would really assist us, and Preuss playing second ruck would assist that. I think it could work to our advantage...

One item Preuss does have in the party bag that Gawn doesn't is an enormous kick. We saw it in action a couple of times on the weekend, one of which was when he effortlessly kicked it to the advantage of TMac in the goal square from 60+ metres away, in the play that resulted in the Melksham soccer goal. It was a ripper.

I'd compare him to Marc Pittonet;  a solid ruckman who is decent depth. He was traded for pick 61 in the 2019 draft for picks 54 and 63. I'd expect something similar for Pruess. Clubs won't pay high for a ruckman who is currently 3rd in the pecking order.

Technically he is our no 2 ruckman and played like he belonged and l was not surprised . I remember him playing against us as he had played only a hand full of games and he certainly took it up to Max.

Yes with us he has been sidelined  with injuries  however he came in to the side with a ripping body and fit as and ready to play. Somehow l cannot see Max playing this week against the Dogs. I think Preuss will back himself to do the job again with the help of TMac.

Jackson is our future an 18 yo an athlete that is a natural ruckman come forward  and can play as a midfielder ALA Nic Nat however he is 18 and has to do an apprenticeship, certainly don't want to burn him out.

The thing is if Pruess does well for the rest of 2020 season  while Jackson or Gawn is out or both do you look at trading him at the end of the year?  Would they be that silly   (Melbourne) ?   I rate him.

Magnanimous of you Nash, as I think you've been all over the (admittedly from his perspective) odd Preuss trade from day one, as much as you're keen on minutes played. It was a mighty kick. And he took a few contested marks which is my equivalent thing.

Thanks. It might not come across this way but I am actually a fan of Preuss, I just think we need to be realistic about what he is and where he is in the pecking order. As you allude to I was surprised he wanted to come here to play second fiddle to Gawn when he is capable of being a first ruck, but I’m certainly not complaining about it and I’m in favour of keeping him if he wants to stay.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
