Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

After watching the replay for a different perspective from what I got at the ground, there is a lot to like - but still a lot to do - for us to be contenders.  We lack outside speed, although Frosty had a few turbocharged blasts, but nothing like BillyHartung was able to achieve.

Hartung was prominent in the opening 15mins but didn't really do much for the rest of the day....

I disagree I think he has a soft spot for us as he is nothing if not a student of the history of the game. He appreciates the 50s/60s rivalry even if the rest of their supporters couldnt give a stuff. I just found it interesting. Once I heard him say "the Melbourne side" I couldn't stop hearing it.

I think he referred to North Melbourne rather than the Kangas as well..

Watching live and again in replay you can see on occasion players jogging when chasing rather than a hard chase allowing the likes of Hartung to just waltz through the centre of the ground. Salem and Clarrie stood out a couple of times but they both are still building.

Side note is Cunnington one of the most underrated players in the comp? He just always seems to bob up with the ball and delivers it well most times.

Yeah it's where we miss Viney and need the rotations of the inside mids to keep them fresh. On the outside though if we're going with Tyson and Lewis then top speed for those guys is a jog.

Cunnington is a good clearance player and strong mark but offers little around the ground, kicking is poor and can't handball on his left side which is completely inexcusable for an inside midfielder. Somehow Jordan Lewis can't handball on his right though so it's hardly a unique fault. He often plays well against us but shouldn't have much hurt factor. With Ziebell forward, Higgins more of a receiving player and Jacobs tagging he does get a lot of opportunity to win clearances as well.

It actually teaches him a new skill.

So it makes complete sense.

That’s  why the hawks got rid of him. A slightly improved Sam Bleese at best.

While he got the last laugh on us last year, one of my happiest memories as a Demon supporter was that it was US who shut down his idiotic 'Press Red for Ed' broadcast.

The sight of him sulking it up, muttering something about Mount Buller and storming out of the commentary box almost made the five other times he hijacked the commentary box worth it.

I would have found it funnier of we found 3 of the worst Melbourne supporting stereotypes you could find to run a competing broadcast next door.

Wouldn't work over the sound of all that jewellery. And everyone would be distracted by the cheese platters.

Slightly off topic, but was the last time we beat North ( that is before last Saturday) Colin Sylvia’s first game? I seem to remember Colin’s first game was in 2006 against North where he got one or two touches only! It just puts into perspective the length of time between wins.

I came on here to find some news on it. Not a sausage. I'm stunned, frankly. Especially with the Frost one.

Looks like Jetta and Frost are in the clear:

"Only one other player faces suspension from the weekend's games, with Bulldog Zaine Cordy offered a week for striking Cale Hooker of the Dons...Richmond's Alex Rance can accept a $2000 fine for striking Hawthorn's Luke Breust...Nine other players have also been fined, while a match day report on Greater Western Sydney's Matt de Boer was thrown out".

I'm guessing they are fined or completely exonerated https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/bomber-could-be-in-hot-water-over-alleged-bite-20180409-p4z8i9.html

Finally managed to see the replay so here are some quick thoughts from what I saw:

Umpires were bad for both teams, to me there wasn’t any favouritism just no consistency and logic at times. The Fritch non-mark was terrible and robbed him of a great mark and us a huge goal into 3 quarter.

Gawn was incredible, easily best on ground for me.

Petracca looks like he’s getting stronger and stronger. Hasn’t hit top speed yet but when he does I pity the poor buggers on the other end.

Kent, Bugg, and Wagner all played very good games. Wagner has been in the sights of many here (me included) I’m happy to admit the he played a good game. Kent and Bugg were our dangerous forwards and they did it though harassment and pressure. Also special mention to Frost, he also did some very good things.

Hogan as a midfielder I was a little sceptical of but it’s working, I think it would work better with one more tall forward though. Early days our forward entries were terrible.

Overall satisfied with the result. We should’ve buried them in the 3rd quarter and we missed some easy shots. We’ve broken the hoodoo and that shouldn’t be underestimated.

Scott would have given Petracca 3 or 4 I reckon. Oppo coaches rate get blown away by Petracca. Not sure who would have given 2 NM players votes....Scott again...

Had to be 4 or 0

Scores broken down (but take your pick as to which coach awarded them):

5: Gawn, Gawn

4: Hogan, Petracca

3: Salem, Cunnington

2: Kent, Brown

1: Jones, Hogan

(For the record, I have put them in order of my guess as Goodwin / Scott)

Oh, Eddie's just establishing his working man credentials.

You know he was born in Broadie? And he ever remains, a Toorak resident Broadie boy.

He's just quoting John Lennon, another hero of the working masses and enemy of Big Everything. Just like Eddie with his Lexus Centre. Ok, maybe not that. How about his Westpac Centre? Wait, scratch that. His Holden Centre? Holden, car of the working masses. That's it!

I've heard whispers from C'wood supporters that supporter functions are increasingly for the "Legends" and other high paying members, and the run of the mill supporter feels forgotten about.

Ha ha! Jewellery rattling! Good one. Some leisure time reading material about this hero of the downtrodden: Eddie McGuire’s latest $12 million Toorak purchase    Eddie McGuire has a net worth of $55 million      Eddie McGuire has scored a $10 million cliff-top base in Portsea

So Eddie, Broadie Boy, we'll rattle our jewellery. If we all band together, maybe the noise will drown out that of your jewellery.

If Eddie got the death adder out of his pocket more often perhaps they wouldn't have ended up with fairly ordinary recruiting results in the last few years.Destination Club my ar66.....

I assume Scott gave Cunnington and Brown votes ahead of Hogan and if so he's either completely biased or a moron.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
