6 - Gawn - did everything but win the game.

5 - Trac - could have been bigger if he wasn’t sent forward after Taylor’s injury

4 - Clarry - showed he was in the company of Selwood and Ablett for a good part of the game. Not all, but a good part.

3 - Hogan - key forwards kick big goals. He needs a friend though.

2 - Jones - we came back when he told us too. He put us on his shoulders.

1 - I’m struggling here. Harmes was great in the 3rd. ANB bobbed up. Fritch had a solid first game. I’ll go with Harmes but now I know why we lost. Where were our other players????

Gawn dominated the ruck but he doesn’t deserve full votes for missing the most gettable shot. He’s played for long enough and should nail those. No excuse.

6- Trac

5- Oliver

4- Hogan

3- Gawn

2- Jones

6 Max Gawn - Sure we wanted more from the hitouts, but Smith spent all day trying to negate him and Max was a clear winner.

5 Christian Petracca - unbelievable first term and mega dangerous in third as a forward. Based on that is top tier.

4 Clayton Oliver - obviously he's had a tricky couple of weeks getting over his knee knock, but god it was great watching him do his work at clearances and his kicks forward were generally more dangerous than our other midfielders.

Clear gap to the rest and we all can make a case for just about anybody from here.

3 James Harmes - just loved his attack on the footy and his third term when he moved on to Ablett and hurt him going the other way. But I'm sure he won't want to see a replay of his missed pass to Hannan in the last down the AFL members wing - it was mega costly.

2 Nathan Jones - he just kept working, but as with many mates, struggled to hit enough targets.

1 Bernie Vince - really lifted with Harmes and Wags and Lever in the third and that charge was inspirational stuff. Did Goody err in not having him for a stint on Ablett and Selwood? Maybe.

Those voting for Jones have got no idea.

Thank you for your tick of approval. Jones was huge in the 3rd helping us get back into the game. Not just his ability to find the ball, but he was also directing traffic and coaching out there. Something that our other 2 leaders in Vince and Lewis didnt do much of at all today.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
