Today the club has announced a restructure and the promotion of 2 staff; Ryan Larkin and Ryan Earles. In the announcement no mention is made of the fact that Russell Robertson is being made redundant from his FT position at the club. Please let Peter Jackson know if you are angry about this. I am certainly angry!

Update from club:

Russell Robertson will continue in his role as the face of the Melbourne Football Club. He will continue to be our match-day host and the host of other supporter functions and events. His role has simply transitioned from a full-time position to a contractor. This change was made some weeks ago and is no way connected to today’s announcement.”

Is this true? I might be biased but Russell brings a lot more energy to our home matches than some of the vanilla match day hosts of other clubs.

Strange Robertsons axing wasn't part of the media release.

Not biased at all, absolutely true.

I cringe at some of the pre-game and interval entertainment during away games.

I just spoke with the club and these are the facts.

He may well be happier with this situation.

Robbo does a lot of stuff outside the MFC

He is still involved with the MFC

This would certainly free him up to pursue other interests and take other opportunities, without having t seek the permission of his full time employer.  The downside being a loss of full time employee benefits: holidays, sick leave, long service, etc.

I reckon he will be. I spent an hour with him only 5 or 6 weeks ago and he mentioned how much time he spends at the club (travels with them as well) and the pay is average.

He is right into his music and gigs regularly and loves it, it will probably give him more time to focus on this I`d say.

It may well have been a mutual agreement.

Thats good to hear. Would be a tragedy if he had to leave.

This is not exactly on the topic but does relate to Robbo's involvement with the club:

Has the club got enough public liability insurance to pay out those victims who break their necks during the 1/4 time Hogan's Heroes speccy marking contests?

That Robbo hosted event is a tragedy waiting to happen?

Spoke to an ex Dee last Friday night who informed me on this. He said that Robbo has a lot of other gigs outside of the MFC and he was adjusting his focus. He is happy with this arrangement

Phew-I thought he might be be signing an exclusivity contract with the Village Green for open mike night.

I'm not sure  I would keep going to the footy if they stopped "dance like a demon" .It's a personal highlight of my match day experience.

I wonder if this means Robbo is signed with one of the Promo agencies who book people for speaking and MCin engagements.  They would probably prefer to have him working this way rather than as a club employee.  More flexibility and probably better pay.

Robbo turned up to the Big Freeze game after losing his voice. What other match day host would do that? The conversation between him and the Rev at Fed Square before the match  about no one being able to understand them was pure gold.

Hilarious the outrage at the start of the thread from people who had scant understanding of the changes, and even less insight into Robbo's feelings about them.

How utterly embarrassing.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
