Signed, sealed and remaining - $1.3m for the next 7 years

By my reckoning they have 5 players commanding 25% of their salary cap, which is a recipe for potential disaster

1.3 million a year for Dusty, thats classic Richmond.

Look hes  a great player, but hes one chopsticks episode away from disaster.  Either that or some bikey drama.

Good on Richmond and Dusty if he stays! I like one club players. There should be more of them...

Dusty is better off in the long run both financially and his standing in the game by staying at Richmond.

Richmond are a very good side and North aint...

I agree. If the Tigers win the Flag this year Dusty will be worth every cent.

Imagine if the MFC had a player who was Worth that much and we kept him on the list.

Such was our arrogance, or absolute incompetence, that we didn't even interview him at the time.

Can't imagine that Jason Taylor or Todd Viney would adopt the same approach these days.

They will announce it tonight in lieu of Toiges losing

The 7 year deal is hilarious and so very Richmond. Incredibly desperate bunch. Can they even win a final this year?

I think it's fantastic for the rest of the competition that Richmond's cap for the next 7 years will be taken up by Dustin Martin.

Hardwick and co better win a flag for them, otherwise they're in for some real pain in 3-5 years time.

So does that mean he isn't part of the long queue of superstars knocking on Melbourne's door?

Now that his long term future has been secured, watch him come back to the pack next year.

Massive win anyone else in the market for a champion FA, as Richmond have taken themselves out of the market for several years.

North will be throwing money around like drunken sailors now to make up for missing out.

There will be some angry mid tier players over the next few years as Dusty inevitably declines mid contract.

He's already 26 for Christs sake. What sort of player will the have when he is 30+?

I think its wonderful news. They wont be making a serious play for any of our good youngsters any time soon.

Now for Norf to sell the farm for Kelly, and sit mid table for the next 10 years.

I think we have a better approach. Just need to sort the mental weaknesses inside the club.

If he played for us we would do the same to keep him. He's a top 5 player in the comp and I'm glad he's staying put. It's nice to see players not jumping ship.

This is the real problem. Total cap mngmnt looks out of whack. Prestia is the one that really hurts them.

Classic win - win. Richmond stuck with him when he is 30+ and limits their options for mid range talent. North to flail around having elected to keep a coach who has not delivered.

He's a great player period.

A matchwinner, a genuine star and I wished we had him.

Like Franklin, he may have been a lot of trouble in the early days, but the Tigers have done a great job in supporting and managing him.

Glad he is staying with the Tigers.

Martin is a gun, I just hope his best footy lasts as long as his contract. Yes, he is shy, different, comes from a thugg-ish family, is covered in art work, but bloody hell I wish more players played like him. I wish SOME Dees players played like him! Strong, quick, takes risks, lifts his team mates, and his kicking makes me drool.

The Tigers are a VERY good football team this year. I know we hate them but Hardwick and the club have done an amazing job getting to where they are. Well done for securing martin.

But 5 players taking 25% of TPP is a recipe for problems about 2 years from now. Real problems.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
