Hope your right re all you say around the Watts situation.

Re Neal- Bullen...no way. Coming into his own as a really good player and wouldnt want to part with him. Adelaide have a decent deal in front of them already.

How about 10, Neal-Bullen and a swap of next years second rounders for Lever? Wonder if they are prepared to back themselves for next season.

Keep in mind. Mr Watts has a contract. He can scupper anything he wishes.

So well thought through Melbourne !!!

The club is aware of the implications of his contract - they're not stupid.

Mahoney said in his statement that if Jack stays, they are clear on what is required. They are just as prepared for the possibility of him staying as they are of him going. It's really in Jack's hands now, although probably also dependent on us receiving a worthwhile offer for him.

Surely the Kent for Balic trade has been mentioned plenty here.  Granted it's not the most exciting trade.

I had Kent in best 22 at the start of this year, still think he and Frost have more impact potential than the guys holding them out (OMac and Hannan?)

Would keep Kent.

Would trade Kent.

Despite the carry on about Watts, I would be less concerned about Kent going.

At best he has only shown patches of form. He always looks half fit and runs hard in only short bursts. Does not have a tank. Sure he has had injury issues but inconsistency and poor form has been predominant over his time at MFC.

On occasions he looks dangerous with the ball but only on occasions. He also can butcher the ball badly.

People talk about Watts being lazy, however Kent is not exactly an example of a guy going hammer and tongs.

In terms of value for each possession give me Watts over Kent any day.

Kent isnt up for discussion because his path is either improvement or delisting.

No interest in trading Neal-Bullen.  Was one of our big improvers this year, only in his 3rd year and will get better.  Can play forward or mid.  I think our original offer for Lever of 10 and 27 is very fair and we should only have to move slightly on this (perhaps 27 moving to early 20s) to get this done.

Not that i know more than any other punter, but Watts strikes me as a player that benefits from a reality kick up the backside to get him focused and performing. Could be a move to another club, or it could be the suggestion by the FD to look elsewhere and eventually stays. There's no doubt Jack had the ability, many fans question his competitiveness and drive. Not sure that is totally accurate, but we all want him playing to the best of his ample abilities. Does he make our side better in the long run? What's his true value? Trade for an equivalent of a late second rounder or better to retain on list? And would he decide to stay if the club wanted him out?

Definitely not keen on trading Neal-Bullen at all. I still think he has enormous potential as a midfielder and when a spot opens up, he'll become a super important part of the midfield.

Cant kick, like every player if trading him will make us better trade him, pick 10 and Neal-Bullen to Adelaide for Lever is a win for both clubs

I know they're completely different "animals", but it certainly worked for the Tiges with Dustin Martin.  Closer to home, Nev was another to be given a BIG reality check, one from which he has never looked back.

Ablett Jnr & Stevie J were given them at Cats and look what happened. I mean before Ablett left.

Can somebody tell me why we are chucking the Southern Stand at a 50 game player and paying him more than anybody else in the club. He seems to be good player, but not in superstar class.

Plus we have a few we will need to spend a bit just to keep them in a year !!

Who is he going to kick it to.and what value is it if we do not fix our delivery into the Fwd line . Or is the theory we get rid of our best deliverer or trade a kid who has been injured over the last two years. (he was still a no 3 draft pick and played all the first year.). The mind boggles.

And the main thrust of this thread is complicating the deals. At this rate we will not be able to go to the draft next year because we will have no picks higher than 92

How do we know what we're offering Lever? Fair range in supposedly authoritative takes on what we're offering, ranges from $700,000 a year to $900,000. I have confidence that Jackson and Mahoney  are not the types to take risks with cap room. Jackson, in particular, must have learned from the Essendon salary cap debacle that saw Chris Heffernan join Melbourne for 3 insipid years of cheque collecting.

Its fairly obvious that coaches and fellow players question Watts' ability to adhere to elite training and preparation standards and  to play with a competitive edge week in week out. How can we accept that from a 26 year old with 9 years in the system and what example does that send to younger players. It'd be great if he stayed and did commit to being an elite athlete but I don't blame club for putting a rocket under him.

Brayshaw is an elite midfield talent but how many concussions is he from retirement? Still other clubs know that too so can't imagine trade offers would make it worth our while.

Adam Saad has requested a trade to the Bombers but not entirely ruled out another Vic club.

Speedy Sun wants trade to Bombers

Smith, Stringer and Saad would be massive for the cheaters.

Still hope we're a shot with Saad.

Saints are apparently having talks with Michael Talia and also offering Adam Tomlinson a five year deal.

They will have to get rid of players and trade a couple. Maybe we could get Francis to Crows as part of Lever deal. Give whatever  we get for JW to Bombers .

I thought Francis is rated quite highly internally and don't know if Watts value (mid 2nd) would appease EFC.

Bombers are going to have to give up a bit this year and next year for that bunch.  Suspect if they think they are close to a tilt at the flag that they might take this option, and trade out players and picks.  Stringer is worth 15 first round picks (according to someone in Adelaide) - in reality probably at least a first rounder plus a schoolgirl and a TAB account, Smith and Saad second rounders.  I think they could get it all done, but they may need to move a few players out to allow them to do so.

Will they do #whateverittakes?

Apparently he has something in common with JW. Poor attitude and not fit and not prepared to do the hard work. Maybe he wants to get back home.

Charlie Cameron has requested a trade to Brisbane. Just wondering if we could do a 3 way deal as part of getting Lever?

If Adelaide were peeved when Lever said bye, can't imagine now.

Cameron is contracted, not a certainty that they will accept his request.

Brisbane will most likely pay a heavy price.

$750k to $800k is not massive overs when you consider that Lever would have been on $550 to $600 at Adelaide and you nearly always have to pay a premium to lure a player out of another club.

The salary cap will also increase next year.

10 and 27 is eminently fair for a key defender who can play and who should give 10 years to the club.

Why the hell does everyone want to go to Essendon, and how are they going to get all these players surely stringer and smith are worth a 1st rounder each
