Is it just for the indigenous round or do we have 5 now?

Daisy, Checker, Chuck, Cheeky and Flash.

So with the name of Flash this is the mascot that will take chasing and tackling of oppositions mascots to a new level, thus inventing the defensive mascots role.

Great idea having a mascot named after a relatively current gun player, and the indigenous emphasis just adds another dimension to it. But 5 mascots does seem a bit much.

In particular, I find the way he talks about the MFC inspiring and refreshing:

Davey, who won the 2009 best and fairest and was a vice-captain of the club, said he loved his time at Melbourne.

“I can’t thank the club enough – I love it. I spent 10 years there and it really helped develop and shape me out as a person,” he said.

“I’ve got nothing by admiration and a special thanks to the footy club – Danners (Neale Daniher) and [others at] the club like Craig Cameron, who years ago took a punt on a skinny little Indigenous player with a massive afro.

“To keep chipping away – I wouldn’t have thought I’d last 10 years there – but I think that’s reflective of the great football club it was and how they really embraced myself"

“The best thing about it was [playing with] Aussie (Austin Wonaeamirri), Liam [Jurrah] and Nev and the friendships that you forge. Even the non-Indigenous guys – some of the best memories I have of them are behind closed doors.

“I love the club and my kids love the club – even last week up in Darwin – to watch it and see all of my family represented in the Melbourne jumpers and their flags, they really love the club as well. It plays a massive part in not only my life, but also my extended family.”

To have an ex-player talk about the club in such glowing and spirited terms, to me somewhat restores my faith that there is still loyalty and passion left in  football.  Would be great for some of the current team to have heard that too.  I think that some of our past players are key to helping rebuild a strong and proud culture back at the MFC, home of the mighty DEMONS.

It also makes me proud as a non indigionous person to hear how accepted, respected and included Flash felt at the MFC amounst his peers and leaders.  Perhaps through Flash, others and his mascot, the MFC can also be part of rebuilding a strong proud and respected indigenous culture.

Reckon the Wiz was robbed for the naming rights (IMO), but in the same breath you cant argue that Flash was the first indigenous winner of the BnF

Great to see. With Daisy and Flash now as mascots it's great to be so diverse and inclusive. The club is definitely one of if not the best in the league for helping different communities and including all. Proud to be a Demon!

I remember our 1987 mascot running around with 'Flower Power' on his back late in the season.  Loved Robbie, RIP.
