This wasn't a mistake. James Hird didn't "accidentally" inject his players with banned drugs.

You bunch of hypocrites.

Goodwin wanted the "good stuff too".

Hird was a scapegoat.  Email proof that he wanted WADA compliance.

Coincidenceland at its worst.  Words fail me.  Headline reading simpleton hypocrisy.

Gary Ablett senior didn't make it into the hall of fame for some years because of off field shenanigans.

Meanwhile Hird plunged the league into its biggest crisis in memory, perhaps ever, but let's let bygones be bygones and invite the ringleader onto the biggest stage as if it never happened.

The AFL will mention "doping", "governance" or "mental health" before, during or after Hird presents the medal? I don't think so.

Sue, irrespective of his actions as head coach of the EFC, Hird is still a legend of the game and has certainly paid the price for his role in the clubs doping program.  I think this can be a good thing especially when we consider players speaking up re mental health and I think Hird could contribute positively to the topic.

Irrespective of anything he did on the field he is an unrepentant phlogg of the highest order.

That he's even allowed inside a ground is beyond me.

I fear for the world of chocolate !!

I'm going against the grain and agreeing with it.

Hird is one of the greatest players I have seen.

He is the unfairly the face of the scandal. Let's not forget Goodwin was involved in the coaching and Hibberd was playing with the alleged drug cheating.

The AFL need to offer Hird an olive branch. I am not sure, however, this is the best way. They do need to do something.

Id agree with those saying he should be welcomed back IF hed accepted his responsibilities and then actually not launched every wasteful court case he could, and still maintain innocence when they were clearly very guilty!

Very reflective of the state of Football, Australian Rules, really sport in Australia for that matter on a downward spiral, and as quite a few folk on here have said, they would have walked away otherwise, were it not for MFC.

Hird's situation, not dissimilar to Watson.Hand the medal back, present a medal, pretty much the same hypocritical ignorance.

The AFL FOOTY Community know which way their bread is buttered, Melbourne is all i care about, and we are doing what we doing by ourselves....

The AFL trashed their own brand - not a smart business move. What clowns.

The AFL should never have signed up with ASADA/WADA in the first place, thereby surrendering their authority to botherers from outside of our game.

Get over Hird.

Until Hird admits guilt and acknowledges what he did, your thoughts are hollow.

Are you insane? The guy is a cheating [censored] and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a football field. Ever.

The only good I can see coming out of this is that the shade of Norm Smith decides he has had enough of cursing us and puts it on those turds instead.

And to be honest when I read the thread title I thought they were asking him to hand back his 2000 Norm SMith due to an investigation into his playing days and his connections to Shane Charter.

Instead they have chosen to glorify him.

Talking of medals and handing them back, what did happen to Jobe's Brownlow?

He said it was in his sock draw, his manager said the 'dog ate it'.  After some hullabaloo and concern that Jobe didn't actually give it back, Gil said it was in a draw in his office.

But Jobe's cousin, Jeb Ross of StKilda has said it may be hanging on the wall at their grandparents house http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/essendon/jobe-watsons-cousin-seb-ross-unsure-if-brownlow-medal/news-story/8bf8e12a30f03c1ab19bdbd23b70d90c

Jeb said: “I’m not sure if that is a replica or the real one. I don’t know if they have got it tucked away.”

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole 'handing back the medal' was just a charade.

If the real Brownlow medal is still in the possession of the Watson family it is a disgrace by the AFL.  It taints the Brownlow name and is offensive to the real winners, Cotchin and Mitchell.

Grand Final day and Hird presenting the Norm Smith medal = public cleansing of St James on the biggest stage of our game!  Sickening.

The AFL has shown once again that they have zero interest in maintaining the integrity of the game.

Less than five years after this guy was the senior coach and was a huge part of an illegal supplements saga, he's presenting an award that stands for the integrity of the game on the big stage.

This on the back of the AFL giving them pick one last year which was also a joke.

He should Have been banned for life for his involvement in that disaster and we are still yet to see what the long term health implications are for the players.

The AFL have apparently also asked SouthPark's 'Big Gay Al' to provide half time entertainment. A great opportunity to forget, forgive 'n feel super again.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
